I hate Dawn even more

Am I the only one who actually prefered Dawn in seasons 5-6, and hated her the most in season 7?

I hear people say they actually okay with Dawn in this season. Personally, I can't stand the new her. She still screams alot. She screams while fighting, like in "Get it Done" when the "exchange student" appeared and Dawn gave Kennedy a weapon, then Kennedy attacked the demon, then Dawn yells while attacking the demon herself. Okay, like anyone notices that... But it really got on my nerves! She's like trying to be brave and a fighter.

Also, she's trying to be Slayer like, and I get the feeling she's jealous of the potentionals, and maybe Buffy. Like it's not all about her anymore after she's done her duty in season 5.

Then in "Him", slutty and against Buffy. I know she's a teenager who's growing up now, but I don't like the way she behaves, talks...

And I can't help but feel she's not important to the storyline anymore, maybe she should have dies in the end of season 5.

Hm, well, the only episode where I really hated her in s7 was 'Him'....but she was under a lovespell there, to be fair.
Other than that, I could understand her. Being a little jealous of the potentials, for example. Buffy kept telling them they had a purpose in live and yada yada yada,l unlike other people...and Dawn was just other people. Of course it feels great to be special, but if you have to watch all these special people when you're ordinary yourself, I can imagine that's tough. So who can blame her for being a little jealous?

I agree with you. Buffy ignored her throughout s7.
Well, I prefer Dawn season 7 than Dawn season 5/6, to be honest. Not that she has stopped whining but we can see that she has grown and I really like her in this season. And also Buffy gives her more 'freedom', which prevents her from complaining too much.
I couldn't stand much of the other Dawn, specially in Older and Far Away, she really got on my nerves lol

I prefered Dawn is s5. She got more pointless as the seasons went on. Her whining never bothered me, after all she was a 14 yo, thats what they do, whine. But i only liked her in s5 because of the Key arc, which was very good, apart from that though, she didnt add much to the show, i would have missed her if she never was a character in the first place
 
I've always hated Dawn, I hate her voice, I hate her face, I hate her hair, I hate her, ok? I hate her.
 
I am definately one of those that much preffered her in S7 as opposed to 5&6. During S7 she really came into her own, she was really into helping and helping selflessly, I especially love the bit in Touched:
Dawn: I've been reading this old Turkish spell book. There's an old conjuration that the ancient Turks used to communicate with the dying.
Willow: Oh, yeah. I think I've read a translation of that.
Dawn: There's a translation of it?
[Dawn sighs]

lol, it shows, IMO, how hard she worked to pitch in. Right there she could have reverted back to old Dawn and whine, but she didn't dwell, she took a second, realized it wasn't important and continued on with the being an asset to the team 🙂

And Potential was really when the Dawn love came full circle for me. How could you not be proud of her for how she delt with handing the reigns over to Amanda? She truly believed that she was a potential and as soon as she realized it wasn't her she, again, didn't dwell, she encouraged Amanda to believe in herself. I can't help but agree with Xander, there in the end she truly was extraordinary.

You have some great points. For me, all her good work was immediately revoked when she decided to kick Buffy out of "her" house. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I don't hate Dawn. As weird as it sounds I really really understand her so I can't hate her. I mean c'mon how would you feel if you weren't real, you're Mother was dead, your Dad hadn't seen you for years and your sister had superpowers and was now to busy looking after people more like her? Taking all that into consideration I think her behaviour is acceptable. Sure she was slutty in 'Him' but she was under a love spell and she wanted RJ to like her so she would. She's just a misunderstood teenager like most people I know just with a few extra hardships thrown in.

i never hated dawn, but i never liked her much either. however, i did find her much more likeable and bearable in seaon 7. i thought the episode "potential" when she and xander share a moment at the end about being so close to the spotlight but never stepping in it was a great plot point and really showed how she had matured and was an asset in terms of research and support. i think it was a really interesting arc for dawn to go from something as important as the key to joining xander as another scoobie with no super powers. it made her more human (literally and figuratively), more down to earth, more mature, and a better character.

You're right, in my coming to S7 Dawn's defense I did gloss over that very important moment that seriously pissed me off too. I can't explain it, I mean still to this day I cannot understand that scene and why everyone, excluding Faith (I think she did her best to stay neutral, plus she was the last one that had an obligation to stick by Buffy), turned into such an asshole. Yeah i just got nothing to defend her for that 🙁
 
I really liked Dawn S7. She matured a lot and it was great to (finally) see. I couldn't stand her whining in S5+6...even if it was understandable at times, it was still annoying. But in S7, she was truly becoming an adult. She was helping with research and becoming a vital part of the Scooby core. She was vital S5 too, but not of her own free will. This time she was choosing to be a big part of the group. I thought "Potential" was particularly wonderful. S5/S6 Dawn would never have reacted so maturely when finding out she wasn't a potential. I was actually sad to find out she wasn't, it was obvious how much she wanted to be under Buffy's radar, but even so she passed the title on to Amanda without pausing. Xander's great speech at the end sums it up. 🙂

I never really liked the character. The fact she was given the final line of the show was just disgraceful. The writers seemed to love her :/ She just made me want to hit her in S5 though the other two seasons she really sort of matured a little bit and faded into the background for me so the annoyance level went down lol.

I understand where she is coming from though and think the actor portrayed the character brilliantly.
 
I think it's hard to cope the fact that Dawn is "growing up". It is to me. I liked her better when she was this pesky little sister who would "tell mom". Dawn wearing make-up and slutty outfits was a chock to me. She looked like...a cheap, whorish, fashion victim, ex key
 
So I am sure there has been many a discussion on this topic so you may have already heard this a time or two but I am going to take a stand and say I never liked Dawn.....ever. Yeah, thats right, I said it. She felt so implanted to me. It was like the writers were trying to ensure that Buffy had a direct family tie and I dont like it. I never liked her and I never will. Just saying. I feel that there were so many regular characters that very much played the role of family for Buffy, Dawn just mucked it all up. And every time she whined or complained (and lets face it, that was like at least twice an episode, especially early on) I wanted to do nothing more than punch her in the mouth. Additionally, everytime she talked during the special feature of any of the dvds she was on I had to mute it cause I find her THAT annoying.
 
Dawn annoyed me quite a lot esp in season 5 i mean yeah she has a lot to deal with being mystical energy and all but she still acted like such a brat! My parents would have punished me for half of the stuff she did. She seemed to grow up slightly more in season six until we all realised she was shoplifting because nobody really payed much attention to her and in season seven nobody at all payed attention to her but at least she helped out with research etc. Maybe if she has have been buffys sister from season one and we were used to her being part of the summers family we would ahve accepted her more but we have had 4 seasons of just buffy and her mom and we were used to that and then suddenly out of nowhere there was a new family member, other characters such as Tara for example gradually came into the show, through a number of episodes and wasnt just suddeny there, so through her first episodes we grew attatched to her and her shyness =D
