I wrote this on my Tumblr, but I figured I should write it on here too 'cause I want to know everyone's opinions.

Anyways, I hated Kennedy. Every time she got close with Willow, I yelled and booed her off the screen. They're relationship was so rushed and undeveloped, that I think they should have just left Willow be single for a while. I mean come on, Tara like JUST died when it happened, I don't think Willow, or I was even ready for her to move on. 🙁

Word.

Kennedy was lame. And every rewatch she irritates me more. . . and more . . . and more.

And I'm the type of person that it really takes a lot for me to dislike a person/character. She just got on my nerves and then chewed on them like some kind of rabid squirrel. *shudders

I think you're preaching to the choir! I hated her. Possibly the worst character in the entire Whedonverse except...........

Season 3 BtVS Wesley (who I know gets some love here)

I completely agree. Around here somewhere is a thread I started about why I don't like Kennedy.. that is one of the reasons.

I think the main thing is how fast she came. I don't know Tara came kind of fast after Oz but it didn't seem as rushed as Kennedy. Hope that makes sense.

I didn't hate her.

She rubbed me the wrong way a few times but then, she didn't really have any character development and suddenly she's thrust into an extremely stressful situation. It's understandable that all the potentials wouldn't always have their best faces forward at all times. No one does, and given we didn't have time to know and care about them it's going to be harder to have the sympathy we have for the characters we know and love....

We do know though that she had a very privaleged upbringing and perhaps we can assume sheltered from any real hardships...given that I think she 'soldiered up' as it were really well....

Also she really endears herself to me in the ep the killer in me.

And she exhibits an admirable degree of self awareness when she tells willow, "I can be a brat" or something like that.

given that, I do think the relationship was rushed....but they really thought the world could end before they both saw their next birthdays... I understand why that might help speed up the timeline of a typical relationship.

Lol I almost threw up during the kissing scene of Kennedy and Warren.

You read my mind!!!
She even bugged me before she and Willow started their relationship.
When I first watched Season 7, I didn't notice her at all, because the potentials were so many and everyone seemed the same.
But then when I knew her and re-watched it, I noticed how she always behaved like she was the boss or something or like she was always right about everything.
It already started in the episode where the first potentials arrive in Sunnydale.

I think bringing her in was one of the biggest or even the biggest mistake the writers did. It would have been better if she stayed single.
I mean, come on. Kennedy is so not her type!

Totally agree. If they hadn't made Kennedy Willow's love interest, I might have liked her more. But to force her and Willow together felt rushed and wrong. I mean, Willow killed people for Tara's sake in S6, but in S7 she's ready to move on? WTF.

You can't compare Wesley to Kennedy! Wesley had at least an adorable dorkiness that made him endearing... Kennedy was a brat, plain and simple.

Thanks to you I appreciate Nick's acting.... but you'll never convince me that Wesley was adorable!! I hate him!! (lol--- but I absolutely love him in Angel)

The only potential I really didn't like was Rona. No matter how I try, it's really hard for me to warm to her. Especially with her little happy song after they kick buffy out. :-(

Kennedy is such a brat, and so not Willow's type. I also hate how as soon as Tara died, they figured they needed to find another woman for Willow to date. I mean, I know she's a lesbian, but does she honestly have to date the first lesbian she meets?

I also think that their relationship was more physical than emotional, since stupid Kennedy came on to Willow like as soon as they met. She's just so annoying.

I LOVED Wesley on "Angel", but I still loved him on BtVS, too. He was a hilariously bumbling idiot. 😀

Kennedy might not have been so unlikeable for me if she wasn't so forceful in everything she did. She was bossy, mean ( her gleeful "I called that girl a maggot!" makes me want to punch her every time), and overly pushy. She tried to be the boss of all the Potentials, even though they were all on the same level; none of them should have been the boss of the others. I just felt like she was so annoying in every way, and her pushing herself on Willow when Willow clearly wasn't ready just made it all worse.

So, Kennedy is beyond irritating--I totally agree. But most of my frustration with her I think is sort of misdirected because what bothers me the most is the notion that she and Willow would be in a relationship so soon after Tara's death. And that's much more about Willow than Kennedy.

Great point! She may have been exactly what humanity needed in a Potential.

Yeah, I gotta go with this.

I mean, Willow moved from Oz to Tara in 6-7 episodes, coupling up with Tara (in secret) 3-4 episodes after meeting Tara. That's not only a quick sexual orientation change, but a very quick way to move on.

Willow was with Tara about as long as she was with Oz. Willow got with Kennedy 16 episodes after Tara died.

Maybe it's death that's making everyone go "Willow moved on too fast to Kennedy from Tara", but given that Willow seems to move quickly from partner to partner to help heal her pain, the problem is totally with Willow. She's always after the quick fix. Be it magic or companionship.

Excellent observation!
Season 7 in general was awful. Kennedy was just the cherry on top. And the fact that such an annoying character was in a "relationship" with Willow was like...chocolate sprinkles on our ice cream sundae that was Season 7

I didn't think season 7 was a bad season at all, but Kennedy definitely made it more unappealing. What exactly were the writers thinking when they brought Kennedy on the show? 😕

Oh another hate Kennedy thread. The most common one ever to be made besides Bangel and Spuffy ones? Well carry on.

I don't hate Kennedy by the way.

Okay, so Im nearly done with Season 7 of my rewatch. The last time I watched this season straight through was when it aired. After feeling the Kennedy hate on this board I approached the rewatch of this season thinking, "am i going to find Kennedy that annoying?" But I really dont! Okay there is the sense that Willow "moved on" too quickly and I think a lot of the hate towards her stems from people's love of Tara and Tillow that its difficult to see Willow connect with anyone else, especially one so opposite from Tara.

However, she doesnt really bug me (dont get me wrong there are moments). Sure she can be a spoilt brat but behind that there is something stronger and likeable. I really like the way she gets stuck in there, ready to fight and is full of spirit. Examples include when she tries to encourange the girls to stand up to the ubervamps in End of Days and the fact that she is adamant that she wouldnt leave without finding Faith.

I didnt like her in Empty Places when she becomes way harsh on Buffy (but then again I cant stand Anya, Giles, Xander, Dawn or Willow in this scene so thats not saying much). We havent grown with Kennedy at all so there is that sense of disconnection there. But she doesnt grate on me at all.

Now Molly on the other hand - give me a thousand Kennedys any day. What a terrible accent and annoying character. I could go on about my anti-molly-ness but will stop there!!

🙂
