I have a theory!

Now don't get your hopes up you moderators. I know how much you like to make fun of me for posting stuff in the wrong places, but this is not about buffy, it is more about science. So sorry... but feel free to make fun of me anytime, I'm well adjusted, I can take it.

My theory goes a little something like this, (again, I didn't mean to quote dawn)

Everything is made of cells... correct? Yes it is don't argue. Well all around the atoms there are postively and negatively charged ions. The ions are in a sense orbiting the atom. If you were to enlarge an atom billions and billions of times bigger till it were the size of say a planet. Well do you believe that it may be possible that our solar system may just be an atom in a bigger picture. I know you really religous types don't take to this type of stuff, just like you deny evolution, but please just keep an open mind. Think about it we could be made of zillions of gallaxies. We could have zillions of generations of families living out their entire existance on us. Obviously there is a huge time defferentiality to make up for size, but couldn't that possibly be true. Think about it, with every cut nail, we are causing millions of years of deppresion and anguishing darkness upon so many inocents. Well i would like to hear what you guys have to say about all of this. Especially if you are a big science person.
 
yknow how big a headache i have right now? the whole cell thing just constantly blows my mind...i...thought about this briefly then hightailed my mind out of there cuz i'd never do a thing again....but..it is an interesting theory. im just not equipped to handle it.
sorry bout being a big science person. but..it...is a very interesting theory, and scary and very thought provoking, which for my meager head, not so good. but./...i'll think on it, see if i can come up with anyother ideas.
maybe someone smart can help me wrap my lil head around the fact that Everything is made of cells! it...just...blows my mind. i dun like having a blown mind.
 
hmm.....thats really interesting..lol. it kinda makes sense though. when i was reading about the family members living like on us i jumped alittle lol. although that would be cool if it is true.

Alright, I love the theory, but.........

How do you propose to enlarge atoms? My sis and I were talking and she says this cannot be done, because the atom makes up the element, and even if you could enlarge it, it would have no element.....I guess.

Ahem, I don't really know how to say what she said.

You should research alt realities, because the two different ways people assume their composition is of lost atoms and lost time. (Using "lost" for lack of a better word).
 
Well, I don't truly intend to try to enlarge an atom, at least not yet. But What you have said lethe, has made me think. If I did enlarge an atom, and my theory was correct, first of all the effects would be devestating. Think about it. If all of a sudden we felt our very being, being stretched, just pulled every way. Time would shift, then all of a sudden we could be invaded by large probing needles, that take thousands of years to decend on us and lead us to our demise. It would be an appocolapse. Now that has made me think of somthing else. Now I am not a very religous man, but I understand that an appocolapse is foretold in the bible or some religous rite. Perhaps, and I don't mean to squash any beliefs, but maybe god was actually a severly intelegent mind. Hundereds of thousands of years ahead of his time. He didn't create miracles persay, he just understood the universe and he was able to use sience, to create the miracles. So maybe he found a way to enlarge him self and he was found out by people that we make up. And when they found him out, they were intruiged into finding out more about the cells/universe. So he just logically dictated that they would eventually be able to enlarge us, and then they would destory us due to there technilogical advances. Maybe they already have succeeded, but have attempted with one of the other cells in their universe. For all we know, some one that makes us up, has figured this same thing out, but they were a skin cell, and we killed their entire existance by frying in the sun? What do you guys think?
 
If we wanna go the (controversial) scientific route atoms are made up of protons and neutrons, which in turn of made up of quarks and anti-quarks, which in turn are made up of the smallest things called strings. These strings are all around us and make up everything and the vibrate at a specific frequency and allow everything to exist (only if you are willing to believe in 10 dimensions...lol). Truthfully I'm not making this up, it is a very popular theory in quantum physics today.

But truthfully Little Tree I like your theory better. :bounce:
 
Now everytime I file my nails...or get my hair cut...i'll be wondering if I'm killing tiny people...thats kinda creepy to think about....what if were living on a gigantic human...and our galaxy is actually an atom that makes up someones hair? whoa...that is just to much for my brain to handle....

Hmm, have you been reading A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking by any chance? Good book, but the string stuff kinda lost me. Thanks for explaining it!

Anyway, Little Tree,
I think black holes are supposed to do what your talking about, just the exact opposite. I think people have speculated that black holes crush atoms. Ouch. That's how they slurp in everything, like light.

There are another couple of books by Brian Greene (I recommend The Elegant Universe) that are really good, and explain string theory really simply. It's still hard to wrap your head around it though.
 
Beer Nut, you have talked about one of the most fascinating theories I have heard to date. I saw a whole in depth thing about strings! It was fascinating. But My sort of rebutal to your post, is that perhapps stings vibrate the way they do, because what My originall theory is, is actually even smaller than the atom. So Instead of life making up atoms, the make up strings. Perhapps one day, we shall understand the fullness of the universe. But Bear nut, I would love to hear your take on the string theory. It is fascinating to me. And I mean nothing offensive by this, but it seems some one with your intellect, could be somthing so much more than a police officer. I mean that is what you said you were going to be correct? And I mean no dissrespect to police officers, but you come off as quite a genius.
 
Little Tree I really appreciate the genius comment. If only it were true. I probably could go into something different, but I don't have the energy to continue in school (I've got my Honours B.A). Ever since I was a kid I kind of wanted to be a cop, so that's what I decided on. You never maybe I'll become chief... lol.

Back to the topic at hand, you definitely could be right about string vibrations. I have nothing to counter that in any way. However I will state a caution, there has to be a limit to how small we can get, the idea of things getting smaller infinitely seems impossible to me. Mind you I cannot wrap my mind around the concept of the infinite to begin with... lol.

String theory is definitely very interesting anything that tries to merge conventional (large-scale) physics with quantum physics gets my attention. I do still think that there are some holes in this theory, but it is certainly the best effort in this direction that I have seen thus far. The idea of 10 dimensions is certainly possible, but I can't imagine how they would look if I lived in all 10 dimensions. On a side note anyone who is religious might be interested to note that there is a theory that God is a creature that lives in all 10 dimensions and therefore appears as a god to us.

Beer nut, i have not heard of the god is a creature in all ten dimensions. Were did you here of this theory? Wow in all ten, Bet he would be goofy looking.
