I just got my Season 4 DVD Boxset!!!!

I am terribly excited! My husband picked it up for me as a surprise...but then he called me at work to tell me about it! So now I have been sitting here as impatient as can be all day!!!

Are the DVD boxsets for Nort America the same for the UK? In other words, do they contain all the same features etc...they are just encoded differently by region? Is the cover art the same?

The extra's and stuff are the same. I just looked over the American DVD extra's on amazon, and they are the same as the ones I have on my English version. There is one big difference though... The USA version isn't in widescreen, and the UK version is.

Enjoy the DVD by the way, I know I did when I first bought it! I was repeatedly watching the episodes for weeks, lol. 🙂
 
I love the cover art on the US one more, which is good since I live in the US and have no choice anyway, its cool though, mostly black, with Buffy and Willow and those Gentlemen on it. Joss enclosed a note explaining that the reason they aren't in widescreen is because he created the show and that is not the way he wants it watched lol. He said he always intended Buffy for tv box format, and the stuff cut off on the sides he didn't want people to see anyway, so we're watching it the way he meant for us to. I've been watching them today and I loved the Spike featurette the most, and the Hush one, I loved that epi. I love the intro to the DVD, I think they get better each year. The season 2 graveyard intro was too slow.
 
Did anybody else happen to look at the little brochures in the little pocket?

The card that's always there about continuining your collection... it says "Fifth season coming in 2003".

Normally, these are released every six months... so oh please,please,please, could we be getting it early????? 🙂 That would be cool because i hate waiting half a year for a new Buffy!
 
I was going to mention that note from Josh as well. He said he actually filmed in in the TV box ratio (I forget what it is, 4:3 or something, instead of the 16:9 letterbox) and that for him to give them to us in letterbox, he would just be adding in spacers. But I LOVE letterbox, all my movies are!

Well I saw the 2003 release as well...but six months from the June 10 release of Season 4 would be December 10. So it will probably be out just in time for Christmas.

I watched the first 3 eppys last night...sigh...how I've missed this show....even though it's only been a few weeks since the series finale!
 
oh good i'm glad none of the seasons of buffy on dvd are in widescreen... i hate widescreen! i wanna see the full screen! not some of it cut off!,lol....... but i only have the 1st season on dvd so far... and the 1st season of angel on dvd... i'm behind and i need to catch up, your lucky! wish someone would surprise me like that,lol...

See you gotta drop LOTS of hints!!! Basically if you talk about it 24-7, they buy it for you just to shut you up!!! 🙂

Oh and widescreen doesn't cut off anything...the pan and scan (TV format or full screen) is what cuts off stuff. It centers around the main characters, and then crops off the sides of the frame. You'd be surprised how much stuff you lose/miss when you watch something in full screen!

oh yeah. darn it! I was hoping we would get it in november or something. Oh well... december is fine i suppose.

note to self: get some patience! 🙂
 
I'm hoping they don't change the release date, usually Buffy dvds come out in either January or June, or they have so far, later this year would be great, sooner the better

Lol, then you'd hate England then, I think all of the DVD's have been widescreen so far over here.
 
They couldn't put it out soon enough for me!!! I wish they'd just release them all in one fell swoop! Of course, it's easier buying them one at a time...65 dollars every few months doesn't seem as bad as spending 600 dollars all at once!!! 🙂
 
LOL, I know exactly what you mean redslayer.
There's only one more DVD to go for us in the UK though, then we're finished. And that'll hopefully be out this year, but if not, at least January. yay!

I don't know why I'm 'yay-ing' though, I have only got Season 4 on DVD, lol, there's still five other seasons to get on DVD first. 😀
 
I HATE widescreen, Im my room I have a full screen and the bars on top and botom tend to piss me off sometimes, but we have a large wide screen in my living room so if it was in widescreen I wouldnt mind but oohhh well. what ever works.
I got my 4th season for 49.99 at barns and noble....I cant beleve u peps spend 65 dolars on the dvd....go to barns and noble and get it cheaper.

Lost Angel, some places here had them for 89.99 Canadian. So I think that $65 was a good deal! 🙂

Prio Motu - Interesting that you only have Season 4 out of all the seasons you could have bought (you being so fortunate to have up to Season 6 is it?). How come Season 4?
 
Both the US and UK DVDs of seasons 1-3 are fullscreen (4:3).

I've got the US versions of these DVDs, but will be getting the UK release of the rest of them, due to the widescreen format (16:9).

BTW, www.cd-wow.com have them at great prices, cheaper even than www.play.com, which is usually best.
 
I've been watching some of the featurettes and listening to the commentaries. Has anyone noticed Marti Noxon is a babe?

But seriously, we're lucky to be able to get the the entire season in a single volume. This isn't the only way TV shows are published on DVD.

I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to say that I got the season 4 dvd's today at about 12 am, and I just stopped watching now and it's 11 pm. I just couldn't stop watching

before I'll have enough spare money to buy my
season 4 set. It's just sitting under a counter at
work waiting for me. Good thing I have them all
recorded!
