...screencaps of "Smiletime". Now, I have not seen S5 yet. But I was trying to find some good pics of Wes and Fred together (and fromwhat I've seen I cannot WAIT to watch "A Hole in the World"), but looking at the screencaps, that episode looks like it's going to be REALLY REALLY stupid.
Come on, a vampiric puppet?! WTF dude?

'Smile Time' is one of my favourite episodes. Yes, it's stupid and silly, but that's what makes it so much fun to watch!

Plus, even the actors couldn't keep their faces straight when they were acting with the puppet. You can see Amy, J. and Alexis cracking up.

I saw the screencap where Fred, Gunn, and Wes are walking behind the Angel puppet in what is supposed to be on those majestic, epic hallway shots, where they're all walking with the big score in the background, but Angel's a puppet and it is just... crazy. LOL
I do want to watch it though. My God those screencaps of those kids looking like that scared the beejesus outta me. *shudder*

If nothing else, you'll want to watch it for the Pupper Angel/ Spike scene. I know it looks stupid, but I swear it's hilarious! Worth the watch!

SO TRUE about the kid pictures!!! I was afraid of getting nightmares from those smiles!
It's one of my favourite episodes of the whole Buffy/Angelverse. It's brilliantly done and not "silly" at all.

🙂

It's just a fun, silly little ep to break up all the drama that S5 becomes. After what happens before, and what comes later, they needed a silly episode of break the tension.

Like S7 BTVS and 'Him.'

Yeah, that's the point of that shot. Angel does get a bit silly with the slo-mo drama sometimes, so it was nice to see it poking fun at itself. The whole episode is thoroughly tongue in cheek about the puppet deal.

Edit: Oh, and Lyri, I agree totally. S5 was strangely all at once about silly standalone episodes, and serious arc building. But at the same time, the general silliness didn't come across as well as it used to, so the season was left feeling pretty heavy. It's episodes like Smile Time that broke through that just in time.

Smile Time was a really good episode. True, it was a bit silly, but the silliness wasn't overpowering the rather creepy story. I agree with QC that it's probably one of the better (and one of my favourite) episodes of the entire Buffy/Angelverse.

You definitely should see it, it's a great episode!

And who doesn't love seeing those muppets getting hacked into pieces? I dunno if this is a huge spoilers though. 😛

It's okay, but far and away the most overrated episode of either series.

Yeah. I didn't enjoy it as much as people go on about. Saying that, it was one of the better eps.

It totally is. I mean, I liked it a lot, but at the same time, I was really disappointed because everyone kept raving about it and it didn't turn out to be all that great.
If you end up not liking Smile Time, you must have some kind of flaw. The episode is silly, yes, but it's needed. Look back on all the serious episodes. This bring some fun into it, and it's certainly going to be the last type of fun on the show....Ever

ST is a huge highlight in a season I for the most part didn't like overly much. It managed the feat of being utterly hilarious in some scenes and deeply uneasing in others. I can't help but love it!

That's exactly what I was thinking when I looked at those pictures... When I saw the screenshots of the kids I was like "Whoa... That looks like a majorly creepy episode. That would actually freak me out" and then when I saw the Angel puppet- especially pics of him as a vampiric Angel puppet, I burst out laughing at the screen. I was like "Who in the world would be afraid of that?" LOL

Smile Time isn't the highlight of the season....it's the highlight of the SHOW!
It's how I gauge my life on TNT mornings. Are we close to Smile Time? Did it just end? Oh, it's season 4...that stinks...but Smile Time is coming up!
I hate to put it up against OMWF, since I know everyone worked very hard on that episode...but, the brilliance is right up there and it's certainly more amusing.

On the other hand, it is the ONE episode of Angel the kids didn't watch for a while. I kept it as my hidden secret and would watch and laugh after they were asleep.

AND, it goes right along with my "demonic possession of Sesame Street" theory that has had me pondering for years why the people on Sesame Street seem to be the same ages they were when I was little. Coincidence? I think NOT! (sw)

Why not let the kids watch, Lou? Then when they're bad you could tell them "You better be good, or the puppets will get you!" LMFAO
LMAO@the Sesame Street theory! I KNOW, girl! Sesame Street freaks me out!

Yeah, but running from the room anytime a puppet comes on is a little over the top! Especially when the Muppet Christmas Carol is my all time favorite Christmas show!
i definitely didn't enjoy "smiletime" as much as i thought i was going to since it's so talked about and hyped up. but it's worth watching and it's funny and provides a nice break from the extreme heaviness of the rest of the season. i think another reason why i didn't like it as much as i thought i would is because i HATE nina and angel haha.

LMAO Yeah, I guess you're right!!

Well, it looks stupid but it's intent is to be a parody. At least that's how I've always viewed it. It's intent is to "comment" on the negative effects of television on children. It's like Pangs in a sense that it's trying to make a statement. It's just another example of a brilliant, innovative episode from Joss and Company. They're good at those. The episode is pretty funny though. Give it a chance.

Well I watched "Smile Time" today and it was definitely funny, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite episode of the series or anything... It was really funny seeing the Angel/Spike fight and then Angel stumbling towards Lorne after Nina ripped him to shreds. LOL

Smile Time was good. Angel becoming a puppet and fighting with Spike.

Like the conversation between Angel and Wes about Nina wants to be with Angel.

Fred blows Knox off. FINALLY.

Fred FINALLY tells Wes she wants to be with him.
