For sure, it was an incredibly depressing line. It was quite the reversal too. OMWF is one of the most fun, funniest episodes in the entire series, and it culminates with something that is just raw emotion. I wasn't expecting that at all when I first saw it. And the reactions from the rest of the Scoobies, especially Willow and Spike, really added to it.

Yeah, it is quite depressing. Considering that most people associate heaven with ''eternity''- and to wake up, having to dig yourself out of your own grave like a vampire is oddly degrading.
And the fact SMG not a fan of cematrys in real life makes it all the more tangable when she dose dig her self out.
But back to OMWF what makes it work so well is its not random it tells a key moment in the series. it gets at the heart of most characters except Willow because of Alys lack of cofadence in her own voice...Wonder what she would have sung about?

One of the biggest things about S6 was Buffy's depression over being brought-back, so I imagine having the line be depressing was the intent

"Once More with Feeling" is one of my favourite episodes and it shows that everyone is keeping secrets and lying to everyone else - except for Spike who sings what he has been saying all along. Because Spike is the only person other than Anya (most of the time) and Cordelia (always) who say what they think, Buffy confides in him that she has left heaven, but as for the rest of the Scoobies, she tells him, "They can never know." The fact that Buffy can confide in Spike is what brings them closer together and getting everyone on the same page and moving the plot along is what the episode is about.
Her death was tragic, but her return to life was even more so.

I am watching Once more with feeling right now and that part always gets me down. Poor Buffy. Whedon kinda has a knack for the depressing.
