I have a lot of problems with the premise that it is set in New York because as a lifelong New Yorker I think it does the lousiest job of pretending to be in NY of any show I've seen.

I can understand that filming here (amongst other things) is quite expensive and they may use Toronto or Vancouver or wherever to pretend to be New York City, but a lot of things were very obvious.

First off, in the firefighter episode, they are in a park that goes out to a bay. The only such parks in NY are in the outer boroughs, but then they show a "skyline" in the background so we know it is supposed to be in Manhattan, but such a park really doesn't exist.

Then in the last episode, Meredith says that they live in a community property state. Well the nearest such state to New York is Wisconsin.

You don't have to shoot in New York to set the show there, but at least make it look realistic, tahnks.

Hmm...this doesn't really bother me, but maybe that's because I don't live in NY. :x

I guess I don't usually pay that close to the backgrounds unless it's REALLY off-place. I just follow the plots and whatnot. But that's just me.

I don't expect that you have to show the Empire State Building or subway trains, but some of their errors are laughable and howling. Most people know that California is the only "big" state to have community property laws. Why couldn't they just set it in California (in fact, they don't really have to "set" it anywhere)?

It's not because it's in New York that I'm complaining (admittingly, they don't really say in the show where they are, but FOX's website claims it is supposed to be in NY), these errors are bad enough that I'd note it if they set it anywhere, Boston, LA, Atlanta, etc.

The next episode (the one after I wrote my post) had even more problems and even my wife, who thought I was being nit-picking and geeky about it last week, started to notice.

The business card for the strip club showed its "555" phone number as being in the 410 area code, which is Maryland! Then in another scene, Tru said to meet at the Hancock building, and you eventually see a replica of the famous building of that name in Boston!

But I will say it's still a good show and the "errors" are just something to notice and laugh about!
