I'm in a genocide studies class in school. Today, I was fortunate to meet Dith Pran. Dith is a survivor of the Cambodian Genocide. The award winning movie, "The Killing Fields," is based on his story. It was a very weird feeling to talk to him at first. Because I know what happened to him, and what he had to do to survive. Anyone know anything about the genocide that happened in Cambodia? Let's discuss if you do.

I studied it a bit in Modern History when i went to high school. We watched that movie for that class too. If you are interested in this, you should read Angelina Jolie's book "Notes from My travels". Opened up my eyes a lot.

angelina jolie... what could she possibly have to say? lol
Interesting to meet a survivor, I guess. Frankly, I would prefer to meet someone involved with the Khmer Rouge government. I still wonder what exactly went wrong there.

I know Dith said something along the lines of, if there wasn't such a split in the country then the genocide wouldn't have happened. I know the Khmer Rouge had a plan 0 (i think it was called that) where they wanted to resort back a couple years and get rid of all western things. So they tried to get rid of private property, schools, medicine, etc. The people they were targeted were educated people because they were the biggest threat. Am I right? Please let me know. I only had like a day to absorb a massive amount of information lol

Just thought you might be interested in reading the Cambodia section of her book, as she met other survivors and talks about what its been like for them. But you know...whatever.
