Ok, so at school I used to tell people I loved Buffy (which I did) and then a kid at school today asked me and I had to like and say I thought it was retarted...should I just say that I do? Because when people ask me what my favorite show is I have to make something up...I feel like I'm betraying BtVS! What should I do!?

Fess up to the Buffy love!

I get heaps from my work peeps for being a Buffy fan....but then one of them gave me a Tales of the Slayer book he found in an op shop.

Don't give in to the unbelievers! :lmao:

(Sorry....I think I might be lightheaded from hunger)

i agree with defenition of insane, and im not just saying it so you can be a loyal fan, i'm saying it cause it shouldnt matter that you like it and others dont

Just fess up. If they make fun of you, then just ask how can they think it's stupid if they've never seen it. They might try the old "it looks stupid". Mention some tv show/movie that looked stupid, but is actually great. That's the best you can do.

I now just reread my first post...it doesn't make sense!! Lol.

Well, thank you guys so much for everything. Maybe we could start posting our own Buffy stories! (Like real life scenarious where you've either felt embarrassed or if you stuck to your true love (the Buffster))

I've always embraced the Buffy love. When I was in high school, I used to take The Watcher's Guide Volume 2 to school so I could read it and everyone used to be all over it even though they never watch the show.

stand up and be proud!!
i didn't take my Watcher's Guides to school, but i always had a Buffy novel with me wherever i went, and i wore by BTVS cross all the time...still do.
if my friends were going out on Thursdays...can't Buffy's on. and they'd groan and say things like 'God, how can you watch that?' and i'd ask them if they'd ever watched an ep and if they said no, then i'd tell them to watch the show before commenting, and if they said yes and they hated it, i'd tell them to respect other people's opinions and get out of my face. it worked...most of the time, lol.
actually, BTVS was the main reason i met one of my best friends. i'd just started a new job, and there was this one guy who never spoke to me, not one word in almost three months. i thought he was rude and stuck up, so i ignored him. one day, i saw him staring at me, but i tried to ignore him. then he came over to me and said 'Is that the Buffy cross?' and i smiled and told him that it was, and now he's one of my best friends. 😀

Sadly, the people who know the least about something are the first ones to condemn it. I've had the same arguments with my co-workers about gun control, pit bulldogs, politics, my favorite actors and authors, and any of a thousand other subjects. My answer to someone who wants to belittle my interest in Buffy and related subjects is to ask, " How many times have you watched the show?" Invariably, the detractor will huff up and say something like, "I would NEVER watch that show," to which I reply, "Then you have no idea what you're talking about, do you?"

So...that's it then? Should I post a Buffy icon on my MSN dp? Should I use "BuffyRox" as my dn? Should I really?

Lol.

I say be as much of a fan as you want to be. I personally had Anya's quote from "The Prom" on my dn for ages because at the time it suited me...no, not the one where she's describing how she mutilated some guy..

Men are evil. Will you go with me?

There is no shame in liking whatever you like. People who try and tell you different are....well....very silly.

Thanks, I'll use it. Do you happen to have more like this one?

hahahha...how about I give you a hand here.

I am a 25 dude, who is decent looking and girls tend to dig. (not relevant but I'm showing off now) Now what are my favourite television series?

Buffy, Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, The OC, Smallville, & a few billion others that would be considered corny, and girlie and what not.

The point is if it's something you dig, you should be proud that you dig it. You should be honest about the things you like and the things you don't like. Actually you should be honest about everything - no one likes a liar.

jesterjay, if you were a year younger (and lived in Brisbane), I'd think you were a friend of mine from high school :lmao: Very awesome guy, did film stuff for quite awhile (he was like "our Dawson").

Very good point though, you can only be yourself, right down to favourite tv shows.

I always tell people what my favorite shows are, even when I know someone will laugh at me.

One of my co-workers that I'm friends with usually has a similar taste in comedies that I do, and we always talk about The Office, various movies, and a few other shows, but he hates sci-fi/fantasy stuff, although I don't think he's seen much of it at all. Whenever I bring up Buffy, Dead Like Me, or Lost, he rolls his eyes and starts making fun of them, although he's never watched any of it.

I'm planning on trying to FORCE him to watch Lost at least. 😀

You should just say what you like. And you never know! Someone else might say that they love it too, and that'll give you one extra person to gab about it with!!
