I need more Sci-Fi!

I'm currently enjoying Sarah Jane Adventures (don't let the "kids' show" thing put you off...it's well-made TV, written and directed by current Who alumni, just shown in a childrens' TV timeslot), Sarah Connor Chronicles, Sanctuary (the Amanda Tapping show that started life as an internet series) and Merlin. Survivors is OK but a little predictable with some fairly cliched characters...still, it may get better and it will never be as bad as Bonekickers 😉 There are a lot of shows starting with 'S' there...interesting 🙂

Al is spot on about The IT Crowd btw...excellent nerdcom (look...I coined a word 🙂), as is the likeable Big Bang Theory.

...and they're^^ right...B5 was one of the best SF shows ever made...well worth checking out if you haven't already seen it...though there are parts of season five that aren't quite as good...that was down to the network nearly canning it during season four and JMS having to tie up some plotlines then as a consequence, instead of letting them run on into season five.

If you are looking for older ones 4400 is three seasons based on alien mythos, and Space: Above and Beyond is pure sci-fi which *cough* borrows from Starship Troopers. It does walk a fine line between good sci-fi and camp though; it only lasted one season however.

Sanctuary (the Amanda Tapping show that started life as an internet series)

Is Sanctuary on Brit TV now? I want it on TV. It's too much trouble to search around for the freebie spots off the internet. I liked what I saw though. Although, as I recall Amanda has to work on her accent.

Yup - it's on in the UK at the moment
I'm not really watching too much Sci/Fi stuff at the moment... Heroes, have you watched any of that? Personally I barely held interest seasons 1 and 2 but this season is completely made of awesome. Reaper, I thought it was not so good at first... good pilot and then I quickly started to lose interest but suprisingly it picked up towards the end of the first season and I really started to enjoy it. Would Medium be considered Sci/Fi? I was realy hooked on it first season and then just life (before a DVR) happened and I fell way behind and have yet to catch up but I think its (at least S1) a great show. Those are the only ones on my end that I guess are Sci/Fi.... Good luck with your search Buffy 🙂

Battlestar Galactica (the new one) is definitely one of the best sci-fi shows around. Season 4 (which will be the last season) is going to finish airing early next year so unfortunately it won't be around for much longer. 🙁 It starts with a miniseries that you really have to see before season 1 or you'll be all confused!

Battlestar Galactica! Absolutely brilliant.
Also, Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Reaper's good and Life on Mars, too.

As for old sci-fi, Farscape is good, as is 4400.

To be honest i think you are watching the current selection apart from Merlin which rocks🙂
My current TV watching is Merlin and Fringe.. waiting for the new eps of LOST, Ghost Whisperer, Torchwood, Dr Who, Ncis, Eureka (a town called), Dexter, 24.
Hex and Tru calling were excellent but with all good things atm they are ended prematurely 🙁 The Sarah Jane thing is too kidie for me.

Good luck in your quests.

PS
If you wanna catch up on Merlin Then Go to BBCiPlayer or d/l it 🙂

I'm going on a rant for a minute - forgive me.

I get so annoyed with this show and the way it was being advertised.

Its this huge political/terrorist thing (I remember an advert along the lines ('Which TV show is being touted as the US's first TV show dealing with Terrorism' - its not what you thing BSG, Sunday on Sky One) it really bugged me.
They were obviously playing on the 9/11 stuff BUT it just pissed me off.
A) because of that play on emotion
B) because they were suggesting its a first for Sci-Fi.
Sci-Fi at its best deals with all this stuff - look at DS9. Of all the Treks this one, for me, feels like the one that transcends time.
Its a mesh of Religious persecution, Political rivallry and Terrorism and War.

There seems to be a definite lack in good sci-fi programming right now...I can't wait for Lost to return and for Supernatural to get back from it's hiatus. And I usually count on the UK for a good genre show but they don't seem to have anything new over there.

Does anyone know when "Demons" premieres?

Buffy, you should get some DVDs of older shows. American Gothic, Twin Peaks, Carnivale...did you finish all 13 episodes of Point Pleasant? If not you definitely should.

To back up Relic: I'm one of those who enjoyed Babylon 5 when it was on. I consider it one of the better show, in any genre, I've seen.

^^ As EB has said Demons is on 3rd January 😀 not sure what to make of it becuase i didn't like primeval (sp?!) it looked good form the adverts but i didn't like the use to CGI it felt all to..fake. I mean Buffy didn't use a lot of special effects yet it all felt believable and looked good (mostly heheh)
