So I just watched this episode again, and picked up on a few things that I didnt notice before.

When Giles is studying in the library, and he hears the commotion ouside (the janitor and teacher reliving james's act) he hears a voice saying "I need you" then he says Jenny was that really Jenny?

Also, Snyder mentions in this episode that "we're living on the hellmouth" I cant remember finding out during the rest of the seasons how Snyder became to know about the Hemmouth. Does that mean Principal Tweety ( i think thats his name lol 😛) knew as well?

Could anyone help clear my confusion 😛

No, it wasn't Jenny.
Which Giles later acknowledge himself.
He just missed her very much and wanted it be some kind of sign from her even though it was no indication of that at all.

If Principal Flutie (I liked Tweety though 😉) knew about the hellmouth I have no idea.
My feeling is no. That they instead replaced him with someone that knew about it and therefore was better prepared to handle all this crazy stuff that happend.
But I don't think we ever got to know that for sure.

I also assumed Synder had a very basic understanding of what was really going on in his school. Sure he new that things were different, but he was surprised by quite a few things where I wouldn't expect him to be. And if his understanding was so great, then he would understand what Buffy and Giles were really up to. I think Synder was just under the Mayors thumb and his depth of understanding was solely, 'the school is on the hellmouth'...'whatever that is'. He lived in a world of the wierd and didn't question things, he just wanted to get the respect of the Major and move 'up'.

Flutie, well, he never showed any sign of understanding much at all.

I think Snyder knew a lot more than he was letting on. He was in contact with the Mayor and we know what he turned out to be. At times I felt that the Hellmouth was an open secret, everyone knew but all denied it. And the big question is 'Who appointed Snyder?'

Lol @ Principal Tweety, whoops 😛

Ive just watched a few more episodes and it seems like Principal Synder does know whats going on with the Hellmouth and all that, but it also seems that he was appointed Principal, to try and drive Buffy out of school. I got this idea from Becomming Part 2, when he says "Your expelled" and then "The mayor's going to love this" - not exact quotes.

Then in "Faith, Hope and Trick" when Principal Synder is over ruled by the school board, and has to let Buffy back in, at the end of that scene, we hear "The mayor's on line 3" and a look of fear flash across his face.

great observations !
Principal Snyder is indeed aligned with the Mayor. This is suggested as early as Season 2, and I think it's neat that the Mayor isn't introduced personally until Season 3.

My theory is that the Mayor realized that keeping the principal of Sunnydale High clueless was not a good idea. After all, Principal Flutie never showed any inkling of knowledge about the Hellmouth, and he got eaten. So the Mayor picked a disciplinarian who he could trust with the knowledge about the Hellmouth. And he might have even let Snyder know that Buffy was the Slayer, and to interfere with her as much as possible, though I'm not entirely sure because I can't remember when the Mayor found out about Buffy.

And no, that wasn't Jenny. Jenny was on Giles's mind no doubt, and so I think his ears were playing tricks on him. But it wasn't Jenny.

I don't think that we are ever told about the Mayor knowing about Buffy, it appears that he knows quite a lot about the Hellmouth. If I remember correctly he has been in Sunnydale quite a long time and is very older than he looks.

I think that having snyder know about the hellmouth was definitely the mayors doing.
His way of wanting to get Buffy out of school is most likley the mayors doing also, because like mentioned earlier snyder keeps him updated on what's going on with Buffy.
It's obvious that come graduation though, snyder might have known the mayor was one of the supernatural being, but he had no idea what was going to happen with the assention, hence the reason he got eaten.

The problem with Snyder was that he was too busy hating the Scoobies (and the studants)to notice anything else really going on around Sunnydale. And if had found out that the Mayor was a demon he would more than likely blamed Buffy. He was never really that rational or logical.

very true.
I was listening to a commentary on a podcast for the episode and they said that this was the first time we found out that Principal Flute knew about the hellmouth. He had known all along of course, and was working with the mayor. I think the mayor told the principal after he found out that Buffy was the slayer, which is the reason flute hated the scoobies so much. Because the mayor did not like the slayer.
