I pretty much echo everybody else's opinions--loved this episode! Buffy & Angel's interactions were spine tingling. And who can forget Angelus running away like a little girl 😛

I think this episode is one of the best in the entire series. I remember being so taken in by the story the first time I watched it--and I was in tears by the end. I don't know if I would say the episode is underrated, but maybe just sometimes left out when talking about season 2. Season 2 has so many great episodes...it's hard to keep track of 'em all.

This is one of my favourite episodes, but I have to be in the right mood for it.
The fact that the aggressor selects Buffy as his vehicle for self-expression rather than Angel foreshadows later times when Buffy becomes pushed beyond mercy herself such as "The Yoko Factor" and her speech about Chloe in Season 7. In spite of the unrealistic amount of forgiveness in the entire show, we get to see an aspect of Buffy that is not ready to reconcile just for the sake of avoiding conflict.
I should mention the music - not since "The Pack" have we seen an episode that has been driven by the sound and a feel that is different from other episodes. The music is haunting and can be readily interpreted with a stalker vibe.

Nice to see lots of love for this ep- SMG and DB are both great (and also catch a really funny outtake/blooper of their's on youtube!) and I do like the haunting/mystery aspect.
The thing is it's kinda surrounded by really great episodes ('Passion', 'BB&B', 'Becoming 1&2') its sort of forgotten about by some. Unfair, I say.🙂

Also remember that DB's performance in this episode, playing the role- the feminine role in such an open and intense way, is pretty much the reason that a) Angel came back from hell for S3 of Buffy and b) then went on to get his own, 5 year long, spinoff show. 🙂
With all that in mind, this episode can never get as much love as it deserves! 🙂

Oh that's right, Waiting in the Wings, what a great yet tragic episode, great because of all the stuff at the ballet, tragic because of what happened to Wes.
Back to the episode in question, Giles thinking it Jenny and then being crushed all over again when he realizes it can't be her, and that he won't get a chance to say goodbye or anything else to her.
Sorry if I am kinda ignoring the moving Buffy/Angel(us) scenes, by this episode I was still in my "Please dust him" phase. While I am a Buffy/Angel shipper, with everything going on, I really couldn't invest in any of their scenes because I still wanted revenge on Angelus.

I thought it was really good too. I've got nothing else to add that hasn't already been said. I wouldn't say it's top ten for me though. I think it could be a great introduction to the show for someone who's never seen it, since it doesn't give away too much, while highlighting what the show is like when it hits its stride.

I also like how it treated a potentially risky/dangerous subject (an older woman's/teacher's reluctant love for an underraged boy) in such a way that you barely even realize it. Expertly handled.

This is actually my personal favorite episode of the entire series. I'd have to say that this is the one episode that really got me hooked on watching Buffy back when I started to watch the reruns as they were airing on FX. Such a great story, with so many wonderful scenes. And that ending with Spike rising up out of the wheel chair with that smirk on his face is just killer for me!
I think it's one we don't always think of, with the other things that were going on in the season, but yeah, it's a really well done piece of work.

I honestly don't remember that much from the episode, so I'm not sure if I like it or not. I'll give it a re-watch, though I do remember it standing out from the rest of the season.
