Howdy. :: tu ::

All this new technology and TV adverts for new games and systems finally drove me over the edge and whet my apetite.
So after many years of retirement from the world of Gaming (last game system ever played, The Nintendo GameCube), I am considering returning to the action and reclaiming my once prodigious gaming skills.

But where to begin? So MUCH has changed since last I held a controller.

May I please have some friendly advice as to what a good jumping on point would be in terms of game systems and handhelds?

Should I consider a PSP or a Nintendo DS?

Is the XBOX a beast......or is the Playstation 3 the way to go?

And please don't suggest the WII. I don't ever want to go near a WII. 😛😛

WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, do it! 😛

Nah, seriously I have to admit the XBOX has more choices for games. But I'll be loyal(as I always have been) and say PS3 is the way to go! I miss the SNES times, tho.

Xbox 360....Playstation 3 is good but not where it should be when it comes to gaming options.....its funny you don't want the Wii but your last system was a Gamecube 😛

^ I got a GameCube because I have always been loyal to Nintendo 😛....and besides, the GameCube was the only system that had the "Resident Evil" reboot and "Resident Evil 0", which I really wanted to play, so that pretty much cemented my decision to get a GC.

The WII....I just don't like how the games look. I don't find the system compelling at all.

Okay, so if I got an XBox, would I be able to play Assassin's Creed?

Who says you have to go all next-gen? 😛

I'm still a proud ps2 gamer. Not because I can't afford next-gen, because I love the gaming experience I got with the ps2. I'm not really into all the HD stuff.

The only new gaming console I have is a PSP, and I think they're bloody brilliant. They beat the Nintendo DS hands down. I got obsessed with playing Tomb Raider: Legend.

But if you really want to go for next-gen, I'd personally go for the PS3. I go on my brothers sometimes and it seems pretty damn amazing.

[Cough] Old-gen all the way. 😛

I would go with the PS3 for the versatility of it; having the ability to stream movies, from more than just netflix as well as a (second?) bluray player.

I was a gamer as a kid, strictly loyal to Playstation, then took a break and returned and went with Xbox and I find it better.

The playstation console is probably better cuz of the bluray and stuff, but if you don't need that I just like Xbox.

I returned to gaming with Batman Arkham Asylum, and it's an awesome game, great game game, and also has the appeal of being comic booky.

Assassins Creed is on Xbox, also one I returned with, and played all 3, their fantastic.

Alan Wake is such a cool murder mystery game, you get really into it.

I also went with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, which is fun, not as great as the others, but fun, plus playing the range of Marvel super heroes is fun.

Wait.. OM3.. my advice is wrong. I forgot that you do not have broadband. Prolly XBOX I reckon then.

I'm not actually a console gamer (yet - money, dear boy), but I'd go with an Xbox, too. From what I've seen, it has the widest range in games.

Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii 😛

I love the Wii it's great for drunken party games and for fitness if you can be bothered to get up lol.

Had to be done haha

Yeah the reboots are awesome....and yes you can play Assasins Creed...I have them

I have a PS2 and an XBox 360. I love my XBox . . . definitely play the games for it way more often than the PS2 (which could be due to the achievement system. I'm a completionist). I've considered getting a PS3, but there just aren't enough games out for it that I'd play to justify the expense.

I'm seriously considering getting a Kinect, too, if only for the fitness options.

I would say go with the Xbox for a tv console, its just got an awesome range of games 😀 And you can't get Fable on PS3 😛

For a handheld, I would go with the DS, its a lot more interactive, and it has a vast amount of games 😀

Fable karma!
I have both a 360 and a PS3 but I only use my 360 for Fable. Reason one for me being a PS3 fan is that I'm cheap. Games are expensive enough and I don't want to fork out another $50 a year to play online. Reason 2- I prefer the PS3 exclusives. Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, and God of War were more than enough for me to want the PS3. The only Xbox exclusives that I personally like are Fable and Left 4 Dead. I think the choice should be based on your preference of the exclusive games because you could play games such as Assassins Creed on either system.

I know nothing of handhelds so I can't comment on that. 🙂

Xbox 360. PS3 you don't have to play for Live but the PS3 Live has been down for a while, and I think it may be up again next month. I just see 360 as having more dependable Live and all my friends have it. But PS3 is the only that has Ratchet and Clank which aggravates me..

but if he doesnt have broadband than live doesnt matter.. cant really play it over dial-up can you?

Ugh, me, too. I love Ratchet & Clank, but it's the only game PS3 has got that I'd play.
Personally I've always prefered to play on the PC.
Game consoles are overrated. 🙂
