Black Thorn
I remember the attack on Nancy. I also remember gasping in shock, then giggling. Black Thorn, assemble! 😎

I, Tonya

Based on the unbelievable, but true events, I, TONYA is a darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan.

Black thorn represent!
I really want to see this. From the trailer it looks hilarious

That entire situation was just so unbelievable. As I recall, Comedy Central had a lot of fun with it. 😀

I feel so bad for Tonya Harding and everything she had to endure. She had nothing to do with it and yet everyone blames her.

From what I remember that Harding bitch was one of the team who attacked the Kerrigan skater. Harding had Kerrigan be in the right place to be attacked, the hit was organised by Harding and her husband and the hit merchant was to break Kerrigan's leg but he got it wrong. Then the American justice let Harding get away with it after she dropped her husband in it. Luckily the American people were not so forgiving, well most of them.

Now if Black Thorn had gotten involved it would've done for Harding for a cowardly attack, if Black Thorn had become involved that bitch Harding would've got the name Stumpy.

Actually, Nancy was far more of a bitch. A stuck up attention whore, little Miss Princess. Grrr.

I'm elated that she got injured. It's still hilarious. And the funny keeps coming.

I, Tonya was a great movie. Go see it.

The whole situation was absolutely insane. I feel bad for both Nancy and Tonya. They were both misrepresented in the media (and by the gymnastics world), and neither one will ever be allowed to forget it.

Also, ABC is airing Tonya's latest interview in which she does admit she knew something was going to happen but just didn't know what exactly. That airs Jan 11th, I believe.

I don't think it's a great movie, but margot robbie was great in it.
I feel bad for both Nancy and Tonya.
Because of the "popularity" that arose from the attack Kerrigan was given a nine million dollar endorsement contract. Considering she was skating on thin ice before the incident, the attack may have been the best thing that happened to her. I don't really feel bad for Kerrigan at all.

What a reaction! (the reaction by her in the film it looks as if someone cracked a joke)
The guy took to her leg with an extendable rod, the idea was to break her leg but the idiot only bruised her leg. The whole attack scenario was blatantly stupid, that Nancy might have been a stuck up bitch but that Tonya Harding was a crap skater. In the final competition Tonya was eighth and Nancy was second. That might indicate that Tonya was in the 'special' camp.

I mean, sure, the whack attack made her sympathetic enough to get some extra endorsement deals; but I doubt she'd say it was the best thing that happened to her. Who knows if she would have beat Kwan for the second spot. Given Kwan fell, it's likely she would have made the team on her own. I just feel bad because she was inserted into this crazy story that she never asked for or wanted. The media was nuts after the incident and totally played up the Nancy is Americas sweetheart and comes from a good family (lol), then turned on her just as quickly post Olympics when she wasn't thrilled about earning silver and went pro. And to this day, no matter what she does, she'll only be remembered for the attack. That being said, Tonya certainly got it worse.

Tonya was the first American woman to successfully land triple axels, she wasn't able to do that because she was a crap skater.

And she was a nutcase even before the alleged attack.

I was in San Francisco when the news broke. Sitting in the tv room of a residence hotel I was staying at, with several other people. I remember that everyone eventually began laughing, except for three tourists; a couple of Japanese girls and an Italian guy. (They thought it was horrifying)

The people who were laughing the loudest were myself, a girl from Manchester named Sandy, the hotel manager, two Irish guys, and a 7-year old German girl. We were practically rolling on the floor, consumed by mirth.

Ah, those were the days.

I'm looking forward to seeing this! It didn't play at the theaters near me, so I'm waiting for the DVD release.

Tonya is such an awful name. Im glad it appeared to fall out of fashion after all this.

I didnt know they did a movie on it, I wonder if this will be a new movie idea? Best sporting stories of the 90s. Could work.

This wasnt the 90's but still my favourite ice win ever.

I have watched the movie and enjoyed it a lot. Man, the mother character is horrible, and people call Joyce a bad mother. 😉 I was counting how many times the characters said the F word throughout the movie but gave up 20 minutes after the movie started. 😀

I never knew about this incident until I watched the movie. I feel that Tonya crying in the middle of her show to be kinda suspicious. I actually believe her when she said they were just going to scare Nancy with death threats and nothing more.

That bodyguard was the mastermind behind all of this. 😀

I didn't really like the trailer to this. It just looked like it was trying too hard to be shocking, and seem to be using a lot of stereotypes. But at least it didn't look like the standard true story/Oscar bait. I will give it a look. There's decent talent involved.

Just out of curiosity, how does she compare to this woman?

(They made a movie about her as well, and I think it was played up as a comedy--I see now they made two. I don't believe I saw either movie, or if I did then it wasn't memorable, but I remember what a big deal it was when it happened as it wasn't that far from where I lived at the time.)
