I was really hopeful with the comic, but...

I'm really not buying a lot of the storyline choices that the writers have made. I, like probably everyone else here, am total geek when it comes to Buffy and I was soooo excited that there was going to be a continuation, but so much has happened in the season eight comics that I really could never see happening in the show. Not really like the whole epic war stuff, but the charater things such as:

Buffy sleeping with a woman. She never gave any indication to being even slightly bi-curious. In fact when Willow came out to her she was extremely uncomfortable at, having no idea what to say or how to re-act.

The whole weird shifting Dawn thing...wtf was that? It was already made clear in the show that Dawn wasn't the Key anymore, and even if she was....she's still strictly human...even when she was all mystical.

Amy coming back to mess with Willow is one thing, her saving Warren after he died for a second and is keeping him alive and skinless because....well I'm sure they'll get to that, or not. Nevermind that desperate attempt at a dramatic plot twist, she decides to work for a guy trying to destroy all magic? Are the writers stoned?

I'm not even going to say anything about the Fray mess.

And the biggest stretch to me yet is the Xander/Dawn thing. It would never happen in the show. I really can't believe tha the writers who wrote for the show would go along with it. First off ew. It doesn't matter if she's an adult now and blah blah blah, they're are close as family as you can get without actually being related.

There are a bunch of other issues I've had with the comics, and I guess my biggest problem is that they're being written as a comic based off a show, not the continuation of the story, which is what they promoted it as. They're doing this big dramatic plot twists that are completely out of character for the charaters and to me it's just way too Charmed meets Days of Our Lives.

It's not my intention to put down anyone's good time, so please don't think that, This site is literally the only place I can vent my own personal frustrations with the comics and have anyone know what I'm talking about.

This is why I don't read the comics. And it's also why I have a hard time accepting it's canon. I practically ignore it. Buffy ended for me when the show ended. I've heard about all that stuff you mentioned, and quite frankly, if that was happening on TV I don't think I'd be watching.

Lol i dont class them as canon either :)

Me either. It's so outlandish and out of touch with the show that it's just annoying to me.

I stopped buying the new comics at the one with the Japanese kitty toys. Cause that was just too over the top for me. I'll probably buy the TPBs as they come out, but I agree; overall, I'm not quite buying the direction this is going and I'm only reading them cause they're Buffy.

I don't really care if the writers want to go off on their little fangasms like they have on this comic...but I would really be into a believable continuation of the story.

I find a lot of things in season eight to be hard to believe too- especially the Warren plot. 🙁

But, two points on which I disagree:

Buffy/Satsu: Yes, she was uncomfortable when Willow first came out, but I bet after seeing the two of them in such a loving relationship for all those years she relaxed about it. Also, she was feeling very lonely. It had nothing to do with bi-curiosity. It was about contact and connection.

Xander/Dawn: I thought they set this up very nicely (I was surprised that some people were surprised by it actually), and while I can understand that some people still see her as a child, the fact is: she's not. And, she did used to have a crush on him and he was canonically attracted to her at one point on the show, so it's not actually set in stone that they have a brother/sister relationship in, for example, the way it's been flat-out stated that Buffy and Giles have a father/daughter relationship.

I know she relaxed about it, she even became really close with Tara. As far a connection, well I'm gay and no matter how lonely I was I still wouldn't want to connect with a woman so to speak. I really can't speak for females though. For some reason though I just really can't see Buffy doing it. It just smells way too much like that girl from the O.C. going all lesbian for ratings and just recently that girl from the heroes show experimenting for ratings.

It's not that I see her as a child...I can totally accept her starting to have sex and whatnot, it's just not something I ever saw in their relationship. She had a childhood crush which she got over and as for him as soon as he saw that it was her it was "sheesh" and for good reason I think. He did see her grow up and was a brotherly figure. It may not be set in stone...but for me it just seems way out of character for him to pursue a relationship with her. I just don't see, but I'm definatly no authority....it just seems wrong and not something that would have happened in the series.

It's my experience that when people have made up their minds not to like the comic, there's not much point in arguing. People like what they like and dislike what they dislike. However, I'll post my usual points here and then say no more:

1. Characters acting unexpectedly is not the same as being out of character. All interesting characters do unexpected things.

2. The world changed at the end of season 7, in major and fundamental ways. Buffy and Willow, in particular, became much more powerful people. Season 8 has to reflect that. The very first words of season 8 are: "The thing about changing the world... once you do it, the world's all different." We'll always have seasons 1-7, but season 8 is gonna be different.

3. Many elements of a story don't make sense until the story is over. Joss is the poster child for that. It's a bit frustrating, because season 8 takes so much longer to unfold than the TV seasons did, but if you've trusted Joss's storytelling for this long, there's no reason to lose faith in him now.

4. Whether something is "canon" or not isn't a democratic decision. The comics are canon, because the creator/storyteller (Joss) says they are. We readers can love 'em, hate 'em, ignore 'em, whatever... but we don't get to decide what's canon.

I wish more people could understand that about canon.
WOAH. There's Nothing wrong with Buffy sleeping with Satsu. Would people care as much if she slept with a guy? But anyway, yeah, the comics are lame for real. I dunno how people read them with a straight face. They're so funny. Giant dawn catches future Buffy having sex with future dracula before Oz and Warren magically reappear. Lolza

Meh, Buffy sleeping with Satsu seemed out of character... but I'm conflicted on my opinion of it because I have nothing wrong with girls sleeping with girls (seeing as I've been with girls before myself!) or the idea of sexual fluidity (which I think is sort of discredited sometimes and definitely overlooked). Plus, the writers definitely addressed the issue of Buffy being lonely, and, well, for lack of better wording, horny, and so maybe that covers it -- Buffy wanted to sleep with someone, and Satsu was more than interested in Buffy; I mean, she gave her the kiss of true love, right? Their relationship may have been one-sided romantically, but both were fully involved sexually. Different strokes for different folks, but hey, Buffy enjoyed their relationship sexually despite never being bi-curious in the first place.

ANYWAY, with that being said, I still was iffy on it.

But yeah, like Blondie Bear mentioned above, I only keep reading because it's Buffy.

I dont think imo Buffy having sex with Satsu is out of character. I mean, What would be in character? She just basically tried something new! Not that strange or out of character nowadays.

I guess better wording would be that it was unexpected. It wasn't unwarrented, though.
I agree, the comic has gone downhill since issue 12. Once Buffy slept with a girl out of nowhere, I just cared less and less, and I don't see it as a continuation of the TV series. It's becoming more and more absurd, but I have to finish it at this point.

In the beginning I dealt with giant Dawn, Buffy living in a castle, the goof with Warren and The First, etc. But the story just keeps bringing on the crazy, and it all really adds up in a negative way. The TV show had crazy moments, but nothing like this, and they were limited. The comics have a dumb moment every issue.

I'm sorry, but what world are you living in Q-tip? Personally, I think that type of talk is offensive to homosexuals (like theroyalgoat), heterosexuals (like myself), and bisexuals.

If you think that the LGBT community is... fibbing and sexual-orientation is a play-thing and choice, rather than an inherent way of life, I'll have to ask for your medical source.

That offended you? How touchy. I dunno where i implied that LGBT are 'fibbing'. In fact, i dont see what your annoyed at.
Season 8 has had some great moments and some not so great moments - I really hated the whole inclusion of dracula that was the low point for me. And Warren being back, he sucks too. I read it because its Buffy and I'm hoping that everything will make sense in the end.

How is what was said offensive? "Not that strange or out of character nowadays" is what the quote was. How does that say anything like what you are thinking it said? Can you explain please? Because you're making a pretty serious accusation.

Also, plenty of people do experiment or try something new, or even care more about the intimacy and the person more than the sex of him or her. There's nothing wrong with it. I consider myself straight, but I could easily see myself sleeping with a woman for any of those reasons.

To answer part of theroyalgoat's reply from above for the purpose of this argument: some people can't see having sex with a member of whichever gender they aren't attracted to. Some people are more relaxed about it--without identifying as bisexual. It's an entirely personal matter, differing from one person to the next.

^^I think(not sure though) what he's trying to claim is all people are born either gay, straight or bi and that is the way they will definatly stay for the rest of their life, and how dare anyone make a conscious decision to experiment. I'd like to know his medical source.

I'm saying it's currently unknown whether there is a genetic component to the lifestyles of the LGBT community, and it's pretty audacious for you to make the claim that it is one or the other.

I personally don't know which is accurate, but if it is genetic, then the large number of medical professionals and activists' point of view is undermined by frivolous statements like those you made.

Thing is though, i wasn't trying to claim i know what the answer is.
Stay on topic and don't turn this thread into a debate about sexuality.

Just to be clear, I'm about as gay as they come...like Adam Lambert mixed with Sponge Bob...I wasn't saying Buffy shouldn't have sex with women because it's wrong, I meant she shouldn't have had sex with a woman because I really can't believe her character would do that. And would people care so much if she had slept with a guy? Uh no...that's the entire point....

Lulz @ the rest.

I agree that it doesn't 'seem' that likely that Buffy would do it. But it does happen. Hell, it happened to Willow. Anyway, merry christmas :)

But, who's the guy she's gonna sleep with? Xander is the only one in the castle and he obviously has feelings for Renee. Buffy had confessed from the very first issue that she misses sex. Then came Satsu who's in love with her, woken her up from the dreamspace, and is devoted to her. Buffy wanted to feel loved, she told Satsu she wasn't gay, that there would be no future, Satsu still accepted to sleep with her.

It was just Buffy looking for warmth, love and sex and she found them with a special woman.
