I was so upset when Buffy died

Me too but I wouldn't have changed that episode for anything in the world, I love the emotional reaction I get everytime I see it and I know I wouldn't have had such a reaction just for Dawn

Yes, I'd have releaved, hardly the same feeling...
I think it would have been a great way to end the show for good, heartbreaking but good. You got a sense of Buffy's realisation and how for once in her life everything made sense to her, and she could finally enjoy her gift after years of fighting. The voice pver gets me everytime

I count myself among the many fans who love this episode.

However, the one line of Buffy's that most bothers me is when they are about to set out from the Magic Box and Buffy tells them "If the ritual starts we all die - and I'll kill anyone who comes near Dawn". She was speaking to Giles I guess, but I still reacted like "Huh?"

I like Spike's reaction - "Well, it wasn't exactly the St. Crispin's Day speech now was it?"

Incidentally I think this was a great Anya episode.

It was sad when Buffy died but I think there it was integral to her character and how it grows in season 6. The whole voice over thing makes me cry everytime. And the way Spike breaks down right there... as if she were the only one he could ever love with his soulless heart. (even though he could never truly love) WOW!

i loved this episode it was one of my favourite.it was soo emotional and the end is like a classic it rocked.it was really cool when Buffy finally realised what life is about and what her gift is,and everything she says to Dawn is just so sweet and i love the line 'The hardest thing in this world is to live in it' this line just reached out to me.when you see all the scooby's reactions when they see Buffy on the ground it was so sad and Spike, the vampire showed so much emotion,i felt for him.

I went into mouning for the rest of the night. I was distraught. Its so silly but it was so emotional... the speech, everyone looking over he dead body... and whenever Willow cries I do for some reason, so her close up really set me off.... its a powerful episode!!

totally off-topic but I had to give you karma, LOVE that banner!
I think the music is the reason I cry when Buffy dies. I hear it in the CD and I cry. It's a perfect ending, but I'm not sorry that the series didn't end after season 5, after this episode. I love seasons 6-7, although season 5 ended better.
AND, it's so hard for me to see Spike crying after he sees Buffy's body. Breaks my heart...

Yeah it was really sad seeing Spike cry, so emotional 🙁 I watched The Gift last night and everytime I watch I always shed a tear.... and I always get upset when Buffy is saying goodbye to Dawn and it has the voiceover as she is jumping 🙁 *cries, sob, cries*

Yes, I think that the main theme of "The Gift", titled "Sacrifice", is Christophe Beck's most moving composition of the series. Watch the scene again in the training room of the Magic Box between Buffy and Giles where they sit together on the couch.

Buffy: This is how many apocalypses for us now?

Giles: Oh, uh, well... (sits) six, at least - Feels like a hundred.

Buffy: I've always stopped them. Always won.

Giles: Yes.

Buffy: I sacrificed Angel to save the world...

...I loved him so much. But I knew ... what was right. I don't have that any more. I don't understand. I don't know how to live in this world if these are the choices. If everything just gets stripped away. I don't see the point.

During this dialogue you hear the old Buffy-Angel theme from Seasons 2 and 3 play in the background. Then when Buffy delivers the line:

Buffy: I just wish that... (tears) I just wish my mom was here.

we hear "Sacrifice" for the first time. I think of it representing the transition from the early Buffy series to the late one, or the transition from being a child to being an adult and a parent.

awwwwwwww... flashbacks :(
I was almost in tears when Buffy threw herself off of the ledge. It was such an amazing sacrifice to make for her sister, and it really touched me.

I wouldnt' change it. Maybe because I know that she's brought back to life.

I just like the ultimate sacrifice that she made. I mean, she is the slayer, and it was her job to die for the world. And that's what she was doing. It was so dramatic and a good end to the season.

And, yeah I did feel sad for Spike! 🙂

i ab love the gift..its just so amazing, everything about it is the best, i think its the one ep i could watch over and over and over again without getting board!! and i would cry everytime to, i even bought the song, the one that plays as she jumps in, and now its on my ipod, i listen to it all the time, its so sad and it was perfect for the part that it played...ok i think thats enough of me saying how great this ep is.....but its my FAV EP EVER!!:silly:

I read the ones above me and they are completey right!! Buffy gave the ultimate sacrifice, she gave her life so her sister could live, she is the slayer and thats a slayers job, to die for everyone esle to live, to save lives then Buffy has definutly done her job!!

I loved Roswell!
When I first saw this eppy with Buffy dying , I knew she was going to die but really seeing it was not what I excepted.Watching each one of thier faces was so heart breaking to see.The look on Spike's face alone was awful along with Giles. To me looking at those twos faces was watching two men who look like in their minds failed Buffy. Also Giles had the look of a father looseing his child. And for the others it was awful to watch them see their best friend lying there dead and at the time knowing there was not a thing they could do. And as for Dawn, it looked like her world came to an end the moment . I did cry then and I still cry when I watch it.

It was a sad episode but she was the Slayer and sometimes Slayer's have to make sacrifices.

It was a very depressing episode. I felt so sad when it ended. Spike tears were the most touching because he broke down while some of the others sobbed and some looked shocked. They stood around helplessly looking at the body of a girl who :Starts sobbing: LOL
