Seeing as I only finished Buffy last week, I thought last night would be a good time to start on Angel. I have watched the first 6 episodes and so far I must say I'm rather impressed. The tone is different and seems a bit more grown up compared to Buffy. I'm really enjoying each new story and the continuing themes. I also really love Cordy in Angel, much more than I did in Buffy. Really looking forward to watching the rest of the season! 🙂

Yes dude! 😀 Cordy is amazing in Angel. Also if you're enjoying the first few episodes, you'll be in for a treat later on! Keep going, the show just gets better.

I don't understand why everyone likes Angel so much, all I can think about when I'm watching it is "this is not Buffy" 🙁

Because Angel is so different - it makes you see BtVS from a different angle. And it makes it better. 😉 But it is also a lot darker, and more 'adult' ( not in a XXX sense). So, yeah, if you are not much into introspections on good and evil it might not get to you. Not until S2 at the very least.

Well they are two very different shows. Personally, I love the darker, more mature angle we get to see on "Angel". I never once watched "Angel" because I thought it was going to be just like BtVS, and I would hate to think that that's the only reason some people do give the show a chance.

It's always fascinating to read the opinion of somebody who's just discovered this or that Joss Whedon show. I hope you'll enjoy the rest of AtS as much as you enjoyed the first 6 tps. It's an amazing show.

Angel is a fantastic show in its own right and I am looking forward to seeing what you think of it as you go through the seasons. It is grittier and darker for the most part and it just gets better and better.

I love the Angel series. From start to finish (well, with a brief sojourn during S4 where the train came completely off the rails) it's an amazing series, with probably the best overall cast of any show I've ever seen. And Angel himself is an incredible lead.

Nah, I even love season 4! 😀
And yes, as kittenpoker says, grittier. I also love all the tie-ins between BtVS & AtS, especially in season 1.

Angel is amazing (though I still prefer Buffy). The characters, the writing, the themes... It starts off a bit slow in S1, but you're in for a ride S2 and onwards.

I admit I had a very difficult time getting into it. It just seemed dull to me, and I'd go a long time between episodes before I'd continue. It felt like something I "had to get through" because it was a Buffy spinoff and I wanted to see it.

But toward the end of the first season it picked up a lot for me, and by the end of the second season I was hooked completely! I really enjoyed it overall, and, although I'm always going to like Buffy more, it's definitely a decent show in its own right.

If you're already enjoying it so much, you're going to LOVE what's to come! 🙂
