I Will Remember You

Every time I watch this episode I feel joy at seeing Buffy/Angel the way we never saw them on BTVS and then the sad but still joyous part when Angel takes back his humanity for Buffy. Angel had never looked so much the hero and I have never loved him as a character more.

My favourite is 'I will nerver forget'.
I very love Angel, I felt sorry for him in this chapter.
He has had a hard life and it seemed he was going to be happy
 
This espisode sums up the Angel character in a nutshell he is only allowed moments of happiness and then that moment is taken away and Angel is left with the memory.
 
I want to reiterate what I said earlier, because, does it bother anyone else?
Every other attempt of Angel's to erase memories has been found out. I know that this situation is a bit different, but it is still a psychic/supernatural manipulation, and it's hard for me to believe that some semblance of memory does not bleed through for Buffy at some point. I kept watching the rest of BtS waiting for it to happen. and it never does. I'm not saying I want it to happen, I'm just saying that it surprises me, and doesn't "fit in" with what happens in other similar situations in AtS.

And add in any memory/reality manipulations in BTS (the alt universe in The Wish, Jonathan & Superstar, Willow's forgetting spell etc)- none of them end up working, except this one. Just kinda bugs me!
 
The thing is though, Buffy's memories were not messed with at all in IWRY. Angel's were.

The day was done over. Angel didn't become human and he and Buffy didn't reunite. It never happened. None of it. She can't be expected to remember what never was.

While I understand Angel's actions and believe the intentions were more or less noble, he did make a decision that greatly affected Buffy and their relationship without consulting her but for most part when he does that the people either appreciate or understand what he did.

Buffy: He's right. I mean, I think, maybe in the long run, that he's right.

Angel: You know that's not it. How can we be together if the cost is your life? Or the lives of others? (Buffy just stares at him and after a moment he takes her into his arms) I know. I couldn't tell you. I wasn't sure, if I could do it, if I woke up with you one more morning.

Buffy sniffling: I understand.

Connor: I get what you did. You know... I'm grateful.
 
OK, so it isn't memory manipulation, it's time manipulation. And maybe that's what makes it different. Hmm, I'll have to consider it. Because it still bugs me. There are always consequences when these kinds of things are done in the Buffyverse. The only consequence this one seems to have is that Angel has to live with the memories. He and Cordy (& Doyle) were the only ones who knew, although of course the other 2 didn't have the memories either.

Hmm. The only? I think that's more then enough.. hardest punishment anyone ever got for playing with time. Seeing this pictures, moments, feelings in your head and not beeing able to talk about them, to show them.. not being able to share them. I think that's more then enough punishment.
 
I watch this episode whenever I can and always cry at the end like I did today only this time more. I think hearing close your eyes did it and Buffy touching Angel's heart.
 
It was a sad ending and a tough decision. I got teary eyed because I could only imagine what Angel was going through when he decided to go back and save the world. Ultimately he had too, but still they should have had a longer time together so it would be even more special.

It would have been great if IWRY had been a two-parter. Then we could have seen Buffy and Angel doing more like going for a walk in the daytime.
i totally agree with that. i would have loved if that was a two parter. I wander why they didn't and left it so short.
 
I jut saw this episode for the first time. It's amazing, but once again, Angel makes the dumb call. Smashing the gem, going back to being a vampire, he's not getting too high of marks in my eyes.

If it were my choice, I would have stayed human. Look how te rest if he scoobies help Buffy. He could have made it work, but he took the easiest road to what he decided was right.

It was sad and angering at the same time.

just watched this last night on my re-run
the thing that gets me about this is that not enough questions were asked of the Oracles.

Angel made his decision based on his being told that Buffy would die "sooner in her case" if he remained human, and he got nor was given any further info than that really. The fact that The Oracles went along with the change at all makes me think that it was in their best interests, so not entirely Angel's own choice. But he can be pretty sharp sometimes so I think a few more pertinent questions would have been appropriate.

Agreed. And Angels logic for going back to being a vamp was so he could protect Buffy. That was his entire reason but he does little of that being in L.A and Buffy in Sunnydale. What gives?

Angel is told that the forces of darkness hinted at by the jeweled demon are coming, and if he is human and goes back to Buffy she will die "sooner in her case", so he decides to give up his humanity in the hope of giving her a longer life.

It's a moot point whether or not it actually makes any difference, but this is where the decision came from.
 
Okay, admittedly, I'm not the biggest Buffy/Angel fan by any means, but this episode is flawless. IWRY is arguably one of the best of the series. You would have to be heartless to not feel ANYTHING while watching this episode. Particularly when Buffy begins sobbing after being told about Angel, "I'll never forget, I'll never forget, I'll never forget." It is heart wrenching. I love this episode, I have always loved this episode, and I will always love this episode.
