"I would never let her hurt you."

So I was thinking about Faith's comment to Willow (in Who are You) after she had her little stabing Willow fantasy. It went something like "You know I would never let her hurt you?!" and it was said in a way that there's no way tellin if she was honest or just mocking.

Now I wanna know what you think about it. Was it Faith finally understanding what Buffy felt or just Faith mocking Buffy and Willow's friendship. Or did she mean something else? Me I don't know so that's why I'm asking you.
 
I definitely think she meant something by it, not just mocking the Buffy/Willow friendship. But... I'm not allowed to discuss Faith anymore so I'm just gonna wait for Fran's reply, heh, should be interesting 🙂
 
Personally, I think she was mocking her... Just because of the "day dream" "Buffy" has... But I don't read into too many things, I tend to take them as I see them 😉
 
Oh yay... Someone's waiting for my answer 😀

So I have this whole Faith/Willow subtext-thingy going on. Goes way back to those happy days when Faith arrived to Sunnydale via those not so happy days when they weren't friends anymore.

There's this mischievousness and irony in Faith's voice when she says "I forgot how much you don't like Faith" to Willow. And the way she looks at Willow when Willow's talking about being alone with Faith in a room to kick her ass in one way or the other.
"I bet I know what Faith would say to that" and whoa! Willow gets a knife in her gut. Then she looks at her, as if regretting the imagenary knife in the gut and all the other thing's she done. "I would never let her hurt you" is kind of a way of telling herself that she's dangerous and out of control but being in Buffy's body, she can get a new shot at this friendship thing as long as she never lets the Faith in her out (i.e "never let her hurt" Willow)
Maybe there is some mockery in there, but that's because Faith has never experienced a friendship like the kind Willow and Buffy had. I think that way back in season 3 she was sad/angry because she could never be that close to either Buffy or Willow.
 
I think she first ment it as mocking, or maybe that she was testing the whole being Buffy thing by saying things that she think Buffy would say like infront of the mirror. And it feels like shes not really prepared for they way people look and talk to her in Buffys body. Like she said it to mock but Willow takes it seriousely and it makes her a bit unsure..
 
When I first watched the episode I thought it was pure mockery. But reading Doppel's post made me think perhaps there was some guilt in there but masked by jelousy for the kind of relationship Buffy and Willow have and how she could never be a part of that.
 
Considering that she said it immediatly after having a flash of killing Willow, I assume that she was just acting. She knows and fully understands that Buffy would go to great lengths to protect her friends and family. Therefore, she uses this knowledge to help play up the fact that she is not Buffy, but an impostor. She mocks their relationship, and acts the part of the noble hero.

At this point, Faith is self-centered and only cares about acheiving a goal to help out herself. It is not until her confrontation with Angel that we see her start to change, and become a decent person on the road to redemption.
 
I think Faith wanted Buffy's life more than anything. So getting to be her even for a little bit she wanted to try what it was like to be good. How she may have been had she not killed that man.
 
Faith was definitely making any attempt at trying to take over Buffy's life, and be her, and that included play acting the part.

And I agree that she was probably laughing inside at the irony of her saying that.
