Idris Elba as Roland Deschain

Sorry, could you elaborate? I don't quite get what you mean.
The same source that stated Paul was cast as Dean also reported that they are combining parts of the first three books into the first movie. That most of the movie is in 'our' present day with the full ka-tat, and if there are sequels the movies with be flashbacks while also moving the story forward.

King also stated at one time were trying to amalgamate the first three books into a standalone movie to get the full group of characters- as Dean doesn't appear until the second book. So the moment I heard about them casting a Dean I thought oh no.

Okay, so do you mean that your upset that they will be combining the books together and not concentrating on the first book alone for the first movie?

The thing that I am pissed about is this "Tirana" character that is rumored. I only re-read the books not long ago, and I couldn't remember anyone with that name. I had to be reminded that she is an actual character that appears for a few sentences in the last book. The important female characters are Susannah, Susan, Rhea and Mia, not some random Tirana! Grrrhh. I guess though if they are going to combine books, since she is a Low Man, they are trying introduce those villains sooner? Uggh, I don't know.

Yeah, that's basically it. I liked their initial ideas for it three movies with two tv series between the movies.. I just think they are going to condense and leave out so much that it will lose the feel for it. I would rather the first movie just be called The Gunslinger and not The Dark Tower.

The Gunslinger could almost be a The Road type movie... but they are talking casting Dean and Susannah and not a word about Jake. Screw that. Just give me a Jake, Roland and Man in Black for the first movie. Give me The Gunslinger, not the Waste Lands.

Ah, gotcha. And I agree. There is just too much important stuff in the first three books to jam into one movie.

I just read this:

The Dark Tower Movie: Aaron Paul Cast as Eddie Dean? [UPDATED]

So I guess the rumor mill is wrong then? Aaron and King's fanboying is cute though 😉

Hopefully they were wrong and it wasn't just someone reporting before they were supposed to.
I dont know.. it seems like it would be a good introduction. Not the way I would want it as previously mentioned but at least it makes sense now on why it's being joined mid-stream and set in this world. I could get behind it. Additionally it would make Roland seem more like a mythological being; you hear him being talked about, being referenced and then finally you see him. It could actually play out very 'westerny' in that regard.

Idris Elba could act the role of a despondent paper bag, blowing in the breeze, and I'd pay good money to see it. The man's a legend. This sounds amazing!

Did you see him on Absolutely Fabulous, years ago? He played a male prostitute.

😀
