IDW/Dark Horse Canon

(I don't think that this has been specifically addressed anywhere yet, at least if it has, I can't find it, so indulge me for a moment)

We have been told, or at least led to believe, that everything that has happened with Angel after the "After The fall" arc was non-canon, due to the limited or nonexistent input by Joss in its storyline. Now, Dark Horse is getting the title back, including all of the support characters both from the television show and those making their first appearance in the IDW comics. My question is, are we now supposed to go back and reconsider everything after "After The Fall," including it in the Buffyverse canon, or do you think that "Aftermath" and what follows will just be tossed in the trash and a new story line either rewritten or everything just ignored altogether? (And I know that there hasn't been any official announcement about this. I'm just interested in your personal feelings and opinions on the matter)

Honestly, I don't expect anything apart from what Lynch is doing with Spike at the moment to be kept in canon. I also don't expect that to be confirmed until after IDW finish their run with the Angel title.
 
My best guess is that they'll never specifically state what is and what isn't canon in IDW but over time enough referential statements and characters will emerge to effectively 'canonize' the prior material going forward. There's enough good stuff in the post-ATF books to justify bringing it forward and in order to do that you have to bring the kit and kaboodle.
 
I think they won't make an effort to canon-ize or decanon-ize anything, the characters will make references in passing to what has happened in the past months (their past months, which may or may not match up with what happenend in IDW's Angel series), if that, and leave the subject more or less untouched and leave it to the fanbase to figure out the clues that have or haven't been thrown in.
 
No, Joss still has no input on the main Angel series or the spinoffs. IDW will make the story compatible with season 8, but compatible does not equal canon.

Brian Lynch's upcoming Spike series can be considered canon, because it's being written in accordance with Joss's own notes, and he will be personally reviewing at least some of it.
 
I strongly believe all #44 issues of Angel and #8 of Spike are canon. They're far superior to Season Eight in my mind and I still don't know if I wanna read Dark Horse's crap new Angel series. I hate most of dark horse' artist besides Jo Chen, none of the Angel art has had a huge effect on my enjoyment. But anyways, The Wolf, The Ram and The Hart (Final arc of IDW's Angel) is said to connect with Season Eight, They've been conferencing with Scott Allie and Joss to make sure it all lines up, if that's what you consider "canon."
 
"Canon" has nothing to do with quality, though.

I define canon as anything Joss either wrote himself, or directly oversaw the writing of to at least some extent. Among IDW books that would include "After the Fall" (which I consider "Spike: After the Fall" and issue #23 to be part of), and Brian Lynch's upcoming Spike series.
 
Well that's the thing isn't it Andrew, if you consider the new Spike series canon, then you consider everything he, Angel, Illyria etc. does and says canon, and if they so much as off handedly comment on anything that happened in a prior book then it makes that book canon and if that books canon then any reference made to any other work in that book is canon etc. etc. and you back into a situation where it all Really Happened.
