Assuming that "Angel" had ended after Season 3, and David had teen offered the part in "Bones" at that time, or whatever other reason that you care to use for him not recreating his role as Angel on "Buffy," how would you have wanted his absence to be explained (just ignoring it isn't an option. There HAS to be a reason mentioned as to why Angel doesn't return to Sunnydale, and, for the sake of this discussion, it has to be a permanent reason, like why Doyle never returned on "Angel")

I suppose the simplest answer would be that he was never found at the bottom of that ocean.

I actually find that an absolutely horrific thought.

Me too... Wow, that gave me chills to think about it.

oh my God...just the thought of that...I would kick Connor's ass myself if that had happened
He died, saving Connor, finally earning his son's trust.

For that to happen, we would have needed another ep or two, since Connor would have to get into a mortal combat, where all the other characters are involved too, and Angel would have tome to return from the bottom of the ocean(saved by Wesley of course, so the old gang could get together) to save the day.

Not that I wish season 4 and 5 never happened (okay, sometimes I do), but I think that kind of finale would have been more in my taste than Not Fade Away.

I agree with Kean... Even though it gives me chills to think about it. I know Angel is not a real person, but the thought that he was never found after being dumped in the ocean just makes me so very sad.

If he had been left in the ocean I would bet money that there would have been a very special Buffy two-parter where she receives a call from a certain ex-watcher to help find Angel. Once they did he could have rode off into the sunset to try to 'find himself' or something.

There was no way Joss would have left that particular thread untied.

I was thinking more along the lines of Angel actually getting dusted or incinerated rather than the way Season 3 actually did end. Just dropped into the ocean left the possibility for a rescue.

I was thinking about this at dinner and may have replied to quickly. If Angel had ended at the end of S3, that means that the next season would have been Buffy S7 where she tries to construct an army to fight the First Evil.

I imagine they would have ended Angel open with Angel, Wes and Cordy still alive. Then they would probably have rolled all three of them over for at least the last half of Buffy S7 as part of the army of badasses that took on the first evil.

I think it would have made some possibly excellent television as the Angel/Spike/Buffy love triangle would have been realized on screen with all three of them instead of in Angel S5 w/out Buffy to comment. Not to mention an excellent Cordy/Xander/Anya triangle... perhaps an episode where Anya and Cordy have it out and Anyas ex-demoness and Cordys half-demonness come into play. Also post-throat cut buttkicker Wesley face to face with Giles etc. etc. Lots of awesome possible story lines.

Maybe Angel Investigations could have taken the place of the horrible wannabe Slayers and saved us that entire plot line.... ah dreams.
