If "Angel" Had Ended First...

If "Angel" had ended first, do you think that they would have brought him back to Sunnydale? This would actually be two questions

1) Would Joss want to bring the character of Angel back onto "Buffy" full time?

2) Would David want to return to the original show as a support character after having his own series, or would he prefer to find something else to do?

Personally, I can't see any real reason to bring Angel back as a full time cast member, simply because there would be no logical reason for him to have abandoned his mission of "helping the helpless" in LA. A frequent guest star, possibly, but not a permanent resident.

As for whether or not David would want to return to being a support character after having his own series, I think that he would have preferred to find a new, different role, pretty much what he did in "Bones," rather than risk being typecast as that one character.

I'd say no one number one because of the loud NO on the 2nd question. He would have been crazy to go backward - it would be like announcing no one was interested in him which would mean no career.

No, and No. Yes he had a big part to play in Buffy, but many see him as somewhat of a sidekick on that show (and before anyone says anything I have heard him described as such), not as central as the scoobies. Besides, there is no point in looking back.

He said in an interview that he didnt know what to do with angel, that he didnt know the angel character. Angel has a destiny and there's this grand scheme hanging all over the show, and ex-buffy characters for some reason become cooler on angel. And angel is funny, scary , evil and good, and that fact doesnt confused at all cus a lot of stuff goes down, and you understand that the lines between good and evil are very blurred and you keep coming back for more. it is a more mature show than buffy.

Angel haters, whether you are spike fans or buffy show fans, should not feel threaten by angel, he is in his own universe, outside of buffys. I wouldnt want angel back to buffy's, he moved on from that.

most Angel fans differ from you. from what i've seen, people love season 1, 2, 5 and part of 3. Most people are put off by connor, jasmine and even cordelia storylines on season 3 and 4

I know. The Jasmine storyline does suck, but it is one small fraction of an otherwise great season for me. Not the biggest fan of Connor, but don't think he alone is enough to drag the show down. Up until the end of season 4 I like what they did with Cordy. The one episode she has in five is also good even if it should have been more than just one episode.

what are you talking about? jasmine/cordelia is the dominat story of season 4. Connor came on late season3, before connor, i actually thought the season was going well, especially wesley storyline. wesley is the saving grace of part of season 3 and 4

I have no clue what the actor would want so I'll pass on that. I don't think from the story point of view it would have worked to have Angel back full time because little had changed in regards to his reasons for leaving. Guest appearances would always have been welcomed though.

I'm not entirely sure who this is aimed at but it's completely wrong. The show is set in the same universe, hence the shared characters, mythology and crossovers.

Now what i meant was is that Angel and his story are far removed from buffys at least when it comes to both shows.

It maybe part of the overall narrative, but Jasmine herself was only in the final three episodes and for me it is only really that arc where she has mind control over everyone which drags the story down.

Agreed. The Beast Arc, the Faith/Angelus arc are both entirely separate from the Jasmine stuff that really dragged S4 down.

'Home' was still a pretty good season finale though.

I can't imagine Angel ever being back in BTVS full time... mainly because the circumstances that led to him leaving aren't likely to change. Plus I do think he grew attached to LA over the course of the series. So no, I think he'd do the odd guest appearance like he actually did, but I don't think they'd bring him back as a regular.

One of the supporting cast members however, namely Cordelia or Wesley... that I could see working more. Or Fred actually, Fred could work well in Buffy.

Ya, agreed that Angel wouldn't have came back full time. They could have made him fit in the s7 finale with the excuse that he was needed to prevent the apocalypse, but really why would he leave LA and his mission. I vote for guest appearances. But eh, if one positive thing would have came out of this, they wouldn't have had to resolve to that stupid deus ex machina amulet for the finale of Buffy, maybe they would have had to actually think up something original!

For starters she could kill Kennedy. Fred and Willow together are so great They might explode from epic awesome! I'd actually like to see Wesley there with Giles - that would be interesting.

This thread asks a legitimate question to all of the Board members who care to answer it. Since I am a member here, I felt that I had as much right to state my views as anyone else here.

I do not think that Angel had a place in Sunnydale after he left, established himself in Los Angeles, and began his own personal mission. That has nothing whatsoever to do with and feelings that I might have for the character, who I do, in fact, enjoy on his own show. He's the classic leading man, who was, previously, and would be if he returned, wasted as a second banana if he returned to "Buffy" after his own show ended.

As for whether or not David Boreanaz would be reluctant to reprise his character on "Buffy," that question was inspired by Seth Green, who wanted off of the show because he felt that the character of "Oz" had no real purpose on the show and he wanted to be free to take other roles. The fact is that David left "Angel" in 2004 and had a part on "Bones" in 2005 would seem to indicate that work was available for him outside the Buffyverse, so it would appear that he would, in fact have a choice.

3) We could of brought a couple of Angel regulars onto Buffy- most likely Fred, who has no ties to LA, and Wesley since Giles became less frequent after S5.
We could've had less new characters in S7. No Wood (just bring Gunn in to guest star as demon fighter backup), have Caleb as the school principal instead, no Andrew, no forced Kennedy romance with Willow- have a Willow/Fred/Wesley love triangle or something.

Wesley could've then gone on to star in the Faith: The Vampire Slayer spin-off, much fan rejoicing.

4) Spike would've stayed dead at the end of 'Chosen' (presuming the amulet had been found some other way) and not cheaply ressurrected for convuluted reasons. He would've gone out on a high.

alright, no need to get testy. i apologize if i misunderstood your meaning.

im very satisfied how the Angel tv show went, even with with the weird storyline of connor and jasmine, we cant get perfection all the time. I think Angel ran the amount of time that it should had ran and it has the greatest tv ending that i have ever seen. Im glad it got cancelled because that season 5 would not had come out so good if it had continue. Angel got lucky, cir****ances made it lucky and good.

Love the first three, but since this specifies Angel going off while Buffy stays on then Spike doesn't burn. Unless you want all of these new characters to have no real affect on the outcome.

I assume the plot line would be changed when they arrived - maybe beginning of season 7. Personally I like Frillow - Fred is only like Tara in the caring, different enough to be new, and boy could those two talk. Angel might well show up to save the day with Buffy if he's not yet employed, but I think it wouldn't happen more than once. Maybe a separate retro comedy bit - two episodes. Both benefit Boreanaz by keeping him in the public eye.

Wesley and Giles - I can see why people ship these two! I would love to see the battles of wit. Spike and Wesley would be fun, too.

Connor doesn't exist? Connor and Dawn? Connor living in a beach house w/Angel? 🙂
