If Angelus had gotten away in S4, would he have gone after Buffy? *S4 spoilers*

I'm re-watching S4 right now, and when Angelus first returns, the first thing he mentions is Buffy. Then a few episodes later when he hears a Slayer is in LA and he finds out it's Faith, he's visibly upset. So clearly, he still has a thing for Buffy (which, when you think about it, makes a lot of sense).

So if Willow hadn't restored his soul and he'd gotten away, do you think Angelus would have headed back to Sunnydale to take aim at Buffy?
 
Considering how obsessed he was with her back in S2 of Bufffy, I'm going to say yes. If Willow hadn't restored his soul, he would've found some way to get to Miss Buff.

Eventually. With the sun blocked out I think he would take advantage of the situation in LA as long as possible.

Even then, I think he would try and kill Angel's friends and son before heading to Sunnydale. They are Angel's only ties to humanity.
 
I do think he would cause he loved how it went last time killing her friend and tearing Buffy and friends apart for pleasure. Buffy was the one person Angel loved most and being Angelus he just loved ruining that realtionship. But I agree that he would make hell in L.A first then go to Sunnydale.,
 
I don't think that Angelus would have purposely gone after Buffy, simply because it isn't his style. Spike is the vampire who purposely seeks out Slayers. Angelus is the one who hides in mine shafts to avoid a confrontation with an angry mob. Sure, he got away with it in Season 2, but that was more because at first Buffy didn't actually know what was going on, and later because he could both cash in on her residual feelings for Angel and get others, first Spike and then other minions, to do most of the actual fighting..

Angelus is a schemer and a torturer. He isn't a warrior. He might have the skill, but he doesn't have the attitude. Even when Faith came to LA in his Season 4, it was pretty obvious that he planned for the Beast to at least soften her up considerably, if not kill her outright, before he had to face her

I agree. Angelus, unlike most other vampires, has a sense of self-preservation. He's neither weak nor a coward, but he's not above waiting for an advantage before he makes a move.

But I got the impression Angelus wanted to see how a Slayer stacked up against the Beast, in addition to letting them weaken each other so he could finish off whoever won.
 
I definitely think he would have eventually gone back to Sunnydale to get at Buffy. He was completely obsessed with her in Season 2 of BtVS, and one of the first things he did when he got loose in Season 4 was to call her house to check up on her.
 
I'm not sure. I'm kind of in the Angelus prioritates self-preservation camp. I think he would have wanted to torture her but I think he wanted to live even more. So if he had gone to Sunnydale it probably would have taken a while and if he'd gone there it would probably have been with the intention of creating a new fang gang. Perhaps drive Buffy mad the way he did Drusilla... for sport and eternal torment.
 
I think that he would have wound up there one way or another. I bet Giles would have been very angry - actually, I would have loved a last confrontation between Giles and Angelus. And it would be especially hard for him, too, seeing as how The First would be dragging up painful Season Two memories.
But yeah, he would have gone after her again.
 
Once he'd dealt with the fang gang, he would have definitely gone to sunnydale and dealt with the scoobies, how could he not.

Although, if he used his head, he would avoid willow at all costs, so maybe he wouldn't have, but I can't see him resisting the urge to hurt the buffster.
 
I don't know if he would have. I was kinda disappointed with Angelus in his second go round. All he seemed to do was talk. He didn't kill off a single main character. That should be his M.O. Everytime Angelus returns, someone dies. It keeps his reputation intact. Also, it would have served a double purpose. Because they were writing Connor out of the story anyways, he should have killed Connor before having his soul restored. It would have been the biggest blow to Angel AND let's not forget the prophecy of "the father will kill the son" lol storyline comes full circle. I get chills just thinkin about it.

I actually think Angelus calling to check on Buffy was a matter of self-preservation. Faith was someone to be more worried about because he couldn't wreck her emotionally the way he could Buffy. In his whole unlife Angelus never killed a Slayer. He enjoys torture, not taking on opponents who can kick his ass.
 
Once bitten twice shy 😉 I honestly think Angelus would have gone out of his way to avoid Buffy. He tried everything to kill her and it still didn't cut it. I think he was more than happy to reign devastation on Angel's team and then move on.

However, I don't believe for a second that Buffy wouldn't come after him. There is no way Buffy is leaving Angelus roam free.
 
I *think* it gets said somwhere in the comics that Angelus has the same feelings for Buffy inside him that Angel does. So I think for him, it's not about killing a Slayer, it's about killing someone that he (against his will) has caused him to have human emotion.

But it's also about punishing Angel.
 
Do you remember which comic series that was said in? I'd like to re-read it. 🙂

And yes, 100% agree that a lot of what Angelus does is done to ruin Angel's life. Which is interesting because it implies he believes that he doesn't think he is actually back in control permanently, which is odd for Angelus he is always so cocksure.
 
I'll have to go back and look through them - I think it was someone talking to Angel about the Twilight thing. Maybe it's the early issues of Angel & Faith? I could also totally be making that up.

Pretty much agree with most, he would have but after wreaking havoc in LA. Even after that I think he'd wait a bit to plan his next moves rather than impulsively dashing straight to Sunnydale. I don't think he was upset that Buffy wasn't in LA, just exasperated that he had a slayer adding to his problems. Angelus definitely is one to think things through more and more about self-preservation, but I think revenge is important to him and Buffy did send him to hell once. That's pretty much motivation enough.

I'm not really so sure about that. Buffy from Season 3 or 4, maybe, but we're talking about Buffy after she has come to realize that the mission comes first, and vendettas have no place in a Slayer's thinking. Patrolling the hellmouth and handling whatever evil pops up there is Buffy's mission, self imposed though it might be, not chasing evil ex-boyfriends all over the place. If he stayed out of her territory, no matter how much she might LIKE to shove a stake into his heart, she wouldn't go looking for him.

Angelus, for his part, wouldn't be stupid enough to try and tangle with Buffy again, and the simplest way to avoid her would be for him to stay away from Sunnydale, so that is exactly what he would do.
