I reckon Willow would of done, and maybe Tara. Oh, and Spike.

I only see Willow and Spike going over to Angel. Although at that stage Tara was still in Willow's life so i'am not sure how they would have worked her going over. Tara for me wouldn't have fitted in on Angel.

I don't see Willow leaving her life in Sunnydale to join Angel -especially when her girlfriend and friends are there. Can you honestly believe that Willow will leave Xander and go to join Angel?

I don't think Spike would have left when he promised Buffy to take care of Dawn.

Personally, I don't think anyone would have joined Angel. They were family, they won't separate just because Buffy died.

Spike & Willow to me they had the strongest possibility. Not that the other characters weren't great but the two seem to really stand out. I would have said Giles but I don't know what he could have really done they already had a watcher Wesley.

I don't think Antony Head would have gone over to Angel. I think by this stage he wanted to be back home with his wife and daughter, hence why in season 6 and 7 he only guest starred.

definitely Willow, Tara, and Spike. Also, Dawn would pretty much have no choice but go wherever Willow and Tara went. Xander woulnd't go.

I think that most likely Spike would have gone, and taken Dawn with him, since he made the promice to Buffy to take care of her. Willow, possibly, but I think more likely it would just be mentioned that the Scoobie gang had decided, in Buffy's honor, to continue guarding the hellmouth. Then, about midseason, when Faith was released on good behavior, she and Spike would decide that, since Dawn was safely enrolled in a college back East, they should team up to patrol the Southwest, becoming rogue demon hunters in their own series.

Wow that would have been a crazy situation wouldn't it? I can see Spike and Dawn moving over to Angel, what a crazy event that would be. Cordelia having to be mommy, Angel having to deal with not only Spike but Buffys kid sister. They probably would have changed the entire storyline, Dawn would have filled the 'Connor' role easily.

That would have been a very fun season to watch.

The question is difficult to answer because of what it means in terms of changes to the arc. If the show ends with The Gift, that means the channel switch (and man, those were heady times in the fandom) never happens and the original plan for season 5 likely goes into effect (which you can read about over at the Buffy wikia). The major plot point of that to remember was that the destruction of Sunnydale happens then instead of at the end of Season 7. In that case, no character would be staying in Sunnydale cause there was no Sunnydale. So then... lets take a look at the characters in that light.

1. Buffy- Not likely. Even if she didn't die (which was not always the case), SMG had already threatened to quit if Buffy left the WB (no, really). Since she was already against, we should go over to a spin off after "her" show got canceled? No way.

2. Willow- Very likely. If the original plan went forth, she'd have been Dark Willow now after Tara's death earlier, and would have joined Glory in fighting Buffy. She was never likely to be killed and would have fit right in with the redemption aspects of Angel. This was actually a popular rumor back in the day before the switch was known for sure, at least among the fandom. It would have be interesting, however, to see how her character would have bumped into Cordelia on Angel. They kinda seemed to fit the same purpose.

3. Xander- Almost impossible. Didn't fit the style or the series, was already covered by Gunn's character really (though that would have been interesting to see) and would have been dead given that the original plan was for him to be the other half of Glory. Meaning Giles would have killed him.

4. Giles- No chance. It was already well known by midway through the fifth season that, no matter what happened with the channel switch, ASH wasn't really interested in doing another season, so no way he'd head to a spin-off. In fact, at the time, many thought he would die, and that spear he took seemed to confirm it at first.

5. Tara- No chance. Again, she'd be dead if the original plan played out. Not to mention her character never would have fit the Angel concept.

6. Anya- No chance. Again, dead in the original plan. (Yes, the original concept for season 5 was this bloody to the characters, way bloodier than season 7).

7. Dawn- Depends. Whether or not Buffy or her would die, and there was a lot of discussion from both (or so it appeared at the time). If she lives, then its certainly possible. A storyline of her seeking shelter to mourn Buffy with Angel was another rumor making the rounds at the time. I could also imagine Michelle Trachtenberg signing on to that despite her loyalty to SMG.

8. Spike- Almost certainly. The most obvious, really. The rumors at the time were that Marsters was the most tweaked by the possible channel switch/early cancellation. He was still the new kid on the block as far as the main cast went, having just been added half way through season 4, despite his many guest appearances in the past, and now that his character seemed to be getting a meaty plot arc (his "interest" in Buffy) it seemed to be influx. Marsters definitely would have followed Whedon over to Angel, and probably would have butted heads with Angel. It was suggested that maybe the plot there would be he followed Dawn to LA, and in the process of protecting her as a last request to Buffy, become involved with the Angel gang. But this never was more than rumors.

So, yes, Spike and Willow make the most sense, but that is largest cause their characters were the only ones who may have been left standing and their actors the only ones willing.

I also say Spike and Willow seem like the most likely, maybe there would have been a guest-starring from Giles. It seems unlike the others would have been able to fit.
(If Dawn had gone over I would have had to shoot myself in the foot and curse my bad luck, so thank heavens no such thing happened.)

Spike:Marsters guest-starred on Angel's first season and he fit right in there, the dynamics between Angel and Spike are always interesting to watch and James and David have good acting chemistry according to Joss

Willow:Joss loves Willow, Willow is his favorite character and I think Willow would've made a perfect fit on the show, we might have actually seen more Frillow action other than Orpheus but I wouldn't want her to cheat on Tara unless Tara is dead that is

Dawn:Spike would never leave Dawn, not after he promised to Buffy to protect her. He practically treated Dawn like his daughter, he would give his immortal life for her in a heartbeat

Xander:Just wouldn't fit, it's Angel's show, Xander and Angel hate each other. Besides I wouldn't want Xander on Angel

Personally, I would have liked to see Xander and Angel teaming together in a mission. It would have been interesting, they had a great dynamic on BtVS when they fought together. I really enjoyed their scenes in Prophecy Girl.

I think the fact that they didn't get along would make what you suggested an interesting concept. Spike and Angel don't get along either doesn't mean they can't interact well and make a storyline work.

I don't know about who would have but I'd like to have seen Willow, Tara, Dawn, and Spike jump to Angel. At the time AI was Angel, Cordy, Gunn, and Wesley (Fred was just rescued from Pylea but not an important character yet so she could have just disappeared by s3). The show would have a nice full fledged core group like BtVS. That is my dream team anyway --

Everyone is suggesting Willow as a character to go over to Angel, but I can't see it happening myself. Do those of you suggesting Willow assume that Fred never would have become a main character on Angel? I just see Willow and Fres as being to similar. And if she bought Tara with her we would have had three kooky cutesy types on the one show. Or would Willow and Fred have become the new Tillow? Personally I've been gunning for that couple ever since Tara died.

I think Anya would have been a great addition to the cast. She fits the redemption storyline well and I could imagine her arc on Angel being fantastic. Also, what with AtS losing a lot of Cordelias cheerfulness I think they could have done with a wise cracking smiley vivacious ex-demon to brighten up the remaining Seasons (especially S4).

I'm going to side with the majority in the case of Xander, he just wouldn't have fit. Although having him guest star for a couple of episodes would have been so great. Especially if Anya was over at Angel.

Exactly. I don't get the excuse of "Xander and Angel hate each other." Spike and Angel hated each other and they were the BEST part of S5. Hating each other makes it more interesting.

Same goes for Spike, and that went well. 🙂 Also Gunn took his sweet time to really trust Angel. Conflict is always good.

And if we go with logic, why would Willow choose being part of Angel's gang instead of staying in Sunnydale with her friends?
