If Buffy stayed in LA

I'm assuming Buffy skipped town during dead man's party

Okay, I was assuming that she left after the Season 2 finale and never returned. That would leave the possibility of Giles finding her and their setting up shop somewhere not Sunnydale with Counsel approval and support. In that case, if Faith were, indeed, running to her sister Slayer for help, she would probably know Buffy's new location and head there, not to Sunnydale.

("How would Faith know Buffy's new location?" you ask. The same way that she knew that Buffy was in Sunnydale in the real story line.)

Two different possible scenarios.

Assuming that Giles never relocated Buffy, and the Council were somehow able to locate Faith, wherever she might have gone (again, assuming that, with no Slayer or Watcher on the hellmouth, she would have no reason to go there), he might, indeed, have been assigned as her new Watcher, but there would have been no real reason for them to return to the hellmouth.

Why wouldn't they be on the Hellmouth . Isn't that why Buffy was there in the first place ?
And Giles is already there so why move someone else .

Because the subject of the thread concerned what would happen if Buffy never returned to Sunnydale after Season 2, or she came back and left again. Assuming that Giles stays with his assigned Slayer (Buffy) and she is no longer in Sunnydale, then he isn't there either.

The slayers we have seen have all been in different places - even faith was based in Boston before her watcher was killed. Buffy was a slayer in LA before she burned down a few school buildings.

My scenario is slightly different. Buffy left for an entire summer, and Giles stayed in Sunnydale. He had n idea where she was. had she stayed away, or made a brief visit and left again during Dead Man's Party, then Faith would have arrived within days (according to the episode time frame). Assuming Faith stayed (which she did in the series) and assuming Giles was named as her watcher (which he was in the series) how would that have changed Faith?
