If Giles Had Stayed

After re-watching OMWF yesterday, I got to questioning where Giles' character would be if he hadn't left. ASH wanted to go back to England to be with his family more, but what if he hadn't done that? What plans did Joss have for Giles?

Mostly, I was wondering if S6 and S7 would have turned out the same if Giles had been there all along, and where he would have ended up in S8. So, any thoughts? Or has someone read/heard if Joss had a plan for Giles before ASH left?

I don't think they would have had to have changed much if Giles had stayed, and i think through that, we would have seen a much bigger connection between Buffy & Giles as a "father and daughter that neither had".

The problems that Buffy was going through in S6-7, she didn't really have anyone with her,and i think that Giles would have been the one person who she would have went to and who could have helped her through it.

But obviously in it's self, Giles leaving added to the grief that Buffy was going through, but i think that had he of stayed, Joss wouldn't have had to change to much around in my opinion, he could have kept the story lines the same, but i think the grief on Buffy would have been just as much, but for a lesser of a time.

That's funny you post this, passionbecoming! Some of us were just discussing this!

I guess i feel like maybe he could have stepped in as the parental figure or whatever and stopped a lot of the spiraling that happened with willow...with buffy....with dawn.... but then I kinda think they all had to go through what they went through in order to come out the other side, stronger...

so....yeah, I don't know....I missed him a lot and I'm not happy he wasn't there but I think maybe it gave the characters a chance to reach new levels they may not have otherwise?

I think the seasons would have been the same level of quality. By the beginning of season 6 it was clear the writers had nothing to do with the character
