If God exists in the Buffyverse, which characters does he hate?

Which characters does God seem to have it out for?

Judging by what happens to the characters in the Buffyverse and all that they go through, which characters seem to have done something to offend the big guy?

The poll is multiple choice, so you can choose more than one character.

My vote would have to go to Wesley. Everything that can go wrong in his life does. Sure it makes for great television, but I can't help but think he must have been horrible in a past life to have the fates deal him a hand of cards that bad.

My second choice would have to be Drusilla. She was an innocent girl who had everyone around her killed by Angelus, than was subsequently tortured into insanity. She has a child-like air about her and I can't help but feel sorry for her. She was very religious and on the surface it seems that God must not care very much.


Note: I believe it goes without saying that this thread isn't to bash or mock anyone's religious beliefs, so please don't post anything outrageously offensive about religion.

If it's about who drew the "cosmic butt-monkey" card, I'd agree with your choice of Dru... and I'd add Connor. Extreme cosmic contrivance leading to his very existance, and then going through the childhood from hell (literally), becoming a teenager so hugely neurotic that his only chance at finding a place in the world and some happiness comes after he gets killed and "history re-booted" by his dad (whose guts he hates)... doesn't get much more messed up than that.
 
Lol, I went with Angel. Each time his life starts getting better and happier, shit happens. It's like someone is on his case. 😉

Too right. Then again, he isn't even allowed to be properly happy do to his curse. That kind of just makes it all the more worse.
LMAO @ the title.......I'm likely the wrong person to talk about God or Religion but I thought the whole point was God loves all?

anyways I voted Connor cause I know I'm not a fan 😛
 
No one? To me, if one viewed it through some kind of "God" goggles then they're all more or less being tested throughout the story, put through trials and adventures. They make their own choices and turns and though everything doesn't end up hunky dory they learn and evolve as individuals.

If there was a God in the Buffyverse I would say he/she put them on a path but stayed more or less passive in order to see where they ended up. That free-will at play 😉
So I'm gonna stick with no one, cause I believe suffering through the eyes of any deity would be different from the definition we use for suffering.

Though if one had to choose I suppose soulless vampires would top my list. They are demons after all, more or less pure "evil".

I picked a few: Wes, Giles, Doyle, Angel and Connor.

Wes is self-explanatory. He had a terrible relationship with his father, failed as a Watcher, fell into unrequited love, got his throat cut, all his friends deserted him, finally got the girl, watched her die almost immediately and then died soon after. And then, well...
Those who've read After the Fall know it doesn't get much better.

Giles grew up with a destiny he didn't want like Buffy, but he fell in with the wrong crowd, ended up killing one of his friends, which scared him straight again to the point of being completely tightly wound and lonely for the rest of his life till he met Buffy, he fell in love only to have his girlfriend murdered before they could reconcile or consummate their relationship, then he was tortured by his Slayer's ex-boyfriend and tricked into telling him how to destroy the word, then he remains lonely, ends up unemployed, loses his Slayer, leaves his Slayer, is estranged from his Slayer and then
he's killed by the same man who killed his girlfriend.

Connor is pretty self-explanatory too. As is Angel.

And Doyle, well, he was a lonely, divorced, half-demon drunk who's life had only just started to turn around when he was killed only moments after he got the girl.

I have to agree, Angel is definitely the Accursed One in the Buffyverse, and for one simple reason. Every time he just about straightens himself out, he just has to try and mess around with Spike's girl. Anybody with eyes can see it. Angel plus Buffy leads to absolute disaster in very short order. He needs to go and find someone who really deserves him, and then the Accursed Couple can settle down and live almost happily ever after.

But he needs to stay away from Buffy.

I went with a lot of characters lol

Jonathan, because he's betrayed by his best friend and murdered. Warren, cause Willow kills in in a very painful death. Willow, cause of what happens to Tara and then how
Buffy kills her in the future
. Angel, cause he's Angel. Spike, because he's evil, even with a soul, cause he's a vampire. (Same as Angel.) Wesley, because of what happened to Fred.

I didn't vote Fred though. I don't think that was meant to happen because she did something. I think that was the evil motions of someone else.

Miss K, nobody has called me "little" since I was 10 years old. As for "deluded," I'll take my delusions any day as opposed to clinging to the myth that Buffy and Angel can ever attain anything vaguely resembling happiness together, given the number of deaths their couplings have cost so far. Good people die when Bangel happens, and the number of deaths seems to increase with each coupling. I don't care how much they may each want the other, they simply have to face the fact that, in this universe, in this life, they cannot be together. In fact, as we have so recently been shown, the very existence of their universe REQUIRES them to stay apart.

It's a phrase that has been beaten to death in the Buffyverse, but in no case has it ever been more appropriate than in the case of Buffy and Angel that, for the greater good, they can, regardless of any personal desires on either one's part, absolutely not be.

Maybe Spike doesn't have any better of a chance with Buffy that Angel does, but at least them being together has resulted in changing a monster into a hero, not the opposite, which is what happened to Angel.

Actually, her "fling" with Spike was, by her own admission, the first, and for awhile the ONLY, time, after being resurrected, the actually felt anything. Granted, what she felt and what they shared wasn't in any way giggles and fat happy puppies, but it was the beginning, even the attempted rape, of cracking that shell that you describe and letting the real Buffy emerge. As proof of that, consider Buffy's self assuredness and confidence in Season 7. Without something pulling her out of the stupor that she was in the year before, the First Evil would have taken over Sunnydale in a cake walk.

Certainly, Buffy and Spike together in Season 6 went to a dark place, but it would be very hard not to see that even moving into a dark place is, at least, moving, something that she wasn't doing much of before. Sometimes you have to grope your way through the darkness in order to finally find your way back into the light.

(But I think that we've dragged this guy's thread about as far off center as we really should, so you can have the last comment if you care to.)

Wesley, absolutely. His life is so awful, the poor guy.

I voted for Angel too, because come on...What is it, 150 years of torment? His life is just really tough.

Lastly, Doyle. So young, he barely got the chance to make his mark in the world. His marriage was a mess and he just lived poorly.

Gah! I didn't vote for him, but Giles for sure. [MENTION=11476]Mithol[/MENTION] pretty much got it all. I just can't stop picturing
the panel when he died.
