If I hear Kate complain about losing her father

And then constantly being a bitch to Angel because he couldn't save her father, I'm gonna loose it!

That's part of the reasons why I dislike season 2 of Angel so much because of how dragged on they made Kate's personal hatred towards Angel because she lost her father in season 1.

Like woman get over it already! no offense to those who lost their fathers but it just gets annoying after awhile watching it on TV.
 
That was the biggest weakness of S2. They spent a lot of time developing Kate and making her into this major part of the show, and then they side-tracked it so strangely. I didn't mind that she was upset about losing her Father, who wouldn't be, but what became very frustrating to watch was her blaming Angel for it when he had literally zero part in his death. And it wasn't just a one episode kind of thing. It dragged on, and on and on...and on. It just got...tiring after a while.

And obviously, that whole storyline didn't resonate very well with the audience because Angel saves her and then she never shows up again.
 
Wow. I assume you have never had someone close to you murdered? This is certainly not a bad thing - quite the opposite. I can tell you that it is completely realistic for part of the grieving process to be trying to figure out exactly why something that tragic has happened.

Look at the Dark Willow arc as a comparison - were Jonathon and Andrew to blame for Tara's death? No.

Was Angel to blame? No, of course not.
Was it realistic? Absolutely.

but at least in season 7, Willow didn't constantly bitch to Andrew or blame him for Tara's death sure she always felt guilty over Tara's death but she wasn't always a bitch about it like Kate was
 
[MENTION=7407]caitaintdead[/MENTION] is right. When you lose someone suddenly, whatever the reason, you look for reasons, excuses, scapegoats as a coping mechanism. I can't and won't pretend that I've had someone close to me murdered, but I have lost loved ones suddenly and I felt very similarly and it isn't something that goes away quickly.

That being said, for me it didn't make for great television. Partly because it was too close for comfort and partly because watching a guy get kicked, metaphorically speaking, for being a good bloke was frustrating to sit through week after week.

I understand why she was upset and angry but...it was her dad's own fault, but of course she won't accept that. She feels like Angel's to blame because he introduced her to the supernatural world so it makes sense that she might be a little irrational and blame him, but yeah she drove me nuts. I understood why she blamed him, but it really got on my nerves. I just wasn't a huge fan of Kate.

People grieve in different ways. Willow lost the plot completely straight away and took out her frustration on her friends, her enemies and the world in a much more concentrated manor. Kate seemed to have much more of a slow burn grieving period.

I lost someone recently to a bullet to the chest. People have gotten angry at me. People have pushed me away. It hurt. It still does. I have to understand though that people aren't angry at me, people are angry at the situation and need to release their anger somehow. It has been well over a month and people are still pushing me away. These people are much more similar to Kate.

I had a much more concentrated anger though. I screamed and yelled and threw things and trashed rooms. I blamed his work. I blamed the government. I blamed God. I hated everyone. I had the Willow approach and reaction.

I completely disagree. I think it's important to remember that when Joss Whedon shows reactions to certain situations that a lot of the time he uses analogies as opposed to actuality.

This is the main reason why I disliked Kate so much. And was glad she finally left.
 
From the moment we met Kate I hated her. I seriously cannot stand her. She's a waste of space and just a moan. She's like a fly to Angel; just an irritant that won't piss off!

In the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts on Kate's treatment of Angel as it pertains to the death of her father and the coping mechanisms she employed in an effort to move on with her life.

Haha, dude, for once I agree with you; the main reason I couldn't stand Kate was how she kept blaming Angel for everything. She seriously needed to give it a rest. Angel was not perfect, but he tried to do good.

But there was so much more going on than just Kate blaming Angel.
When the show was first aired Kate was being set up as a 'special friend' for Angel. However there was such a large backlash on the 'net' that the writers (that includes Joss) had to back away from that scenario.
So, to get her character disliked, Kate had to be seen to blame Angel for her fathers death a bit more than she needed to.

So, to those who want to have a go at Kate, (and cast dispersions on her character) there was a reason why she was shown to behave as she did.
