If Nick had played Mal

I agree. People that knock Nick's acting chops have clearly never seen any of his other work. Even though he may not be as famous for his other roles as he is for Xander, he was marvelous in "Private Practice", and he was really good in that movie "A Golden Christmas", even though the movie itself was floptastic.
I think he has played a few creepy roles? I have seen him on bits and pieces of Lifetime movies my mom was like is he always playing a weirdo now? LOL he does play creepy well though, I mean he seriously does. I don't know if I will be able to look at Xander the same after Private Practice.

The thought seems strange to me. I have not seen Nick play any other roles besides Xander. And most of the time Xander was all goofy, so I can't picture Nick as Mal...even in Xander's most serious moments.

The character of Mal was too nice a person for Nic, now, if the Reavers had had a leader Nic would've been quite suitable.

I think it's a moot point to think about it, if Nick was cast to be Mal and does a good job at it (which I know he would have) we wouldn't be able to picture Mal as anyone but Nick.

I think playing Mal would have helped him a lot in his career, but Firefly was shot during S7 of Buffy and Nick said he was too attached to Xander to leave. If he'd sacrificed Xander and went for it, he'd have a much better acting career by now.

I've heard Joss say he thought of Nick as Mal but I always assumed he was just joking. Kind of like when he talks in the Firefly commentary about casting David Boreanaz as Mal but couldn't cuz there are chickens in the one of the Serenity pt 1 scenes and David B is afraid of chickens.

Why would Joss realistically cast one of his actors (who already had to work 16 hour days as a regular on another show) on another full time gig? I guess he would have had to kill Xander off or something. I still think he was joking but to answer the question I don't think Nick Brendon could have pulled the part off. He's a good actor but even good actors aren't suited for every part.

I wouldnt want to see Nick as Mal, there is no way I would love him as much if it wasnt Nathan Fillion playing him. Nick just isnt dark enough.

I think he'd probably be too dark for the role, as ILLYRIAN said, Nick's Mal would probably be too dark. Nick would probably be suited to play a villain.

I dont think so, his face is too goofy. I couldnt take him seriously.

I don't think his face is goofy. He was really creepy in The Pack and The Wish. His face wasn't goofy at all when he got in Buffy's face in S2 and S3. As for other roles, he was twice more creepy in Private Practice as the rapist. You probably think he's goofy cause of his role for Xander, but overall, I think he has a handsome face and does dark and creepy really well. Perhaps if Xander was killed in S7 and Nick played the First as planed it would have served Nick much better.

He's definitely goofy looking. And I don't think he does dark or creepy very well. The Pack is one of my least favourite episodes ever. I just don't feel much deep emotion from Nicks acting the same way I do from other actors/actresses in the show.

I personally wouldn't be interested in seeing Firefly or Serenity at all if they had cast Nicholas Brendon. I don't rate him as an actor and he just has one of those faces that I don't like.

I guess it's a matter of opinion and taste then. I do think he's a very good and underrated actor. His face was the reason I watched Buffy in the first place. I've always thought he was the best looking guy among the cast, along with Giles.

I was just saying for me, he would look too goofy. If you find him handsome than you obviously view him in a different way to me. I probably wouldnt have given Firefly much of a chance if he was in it.

Personally I don't know if he could have played it as well as Nathan. I like Xander, I like Nic acting in BtVS(I haven't seen him in anything else), but Nathan just *seems* more suited for such a role. But then, we'll never know for sure. 😉

Since bashed Nick, it's time to bash Nathan 😀

I really didn't care for him in Season 7 BtVS. I believe a lot of it had to do with the writing, but Caleb just didn't work for me.

BTW, I was really shocked to find out that they are the same age. Nathan seems so much older.

Hey! Don't bash Caleb. He was funny(and creepy at the same time) and had some great quotes like... "Are you ready to finish this, bitch?" or "What can I say? I work in mysterious ways. Also some fairly straightforward ones"! 😉

Just for you Tome, I won't be a Caleb Hater. 😉

Obviously it's the writing. I thought Caleb was a dull cliché, too. Very one dimensional and came so late in the story, adding more storylines to an already crowded season. I believe S7 would have been much better without him.

Though I love the part where Xander loses his eye. That's the best thing they've used Caleb for.

I cannot see Nick playing Mal. I don't think that Nick could bring the same amount of hummor that Nathan brought to the show. It would have been interesting to see though.
