If Nick had played Mal

Since bashed Nick, it's time to bash Nathan 😀

I really didn't care for him in Season 7 BtVS. I believe a lot of it had to do with the writing, but Caleb just didn't work for me.

BTW, I was really shocked to find out that they are the same age. Nathan seems so much older.

He's definitely goofy looking. And I don't think he does dark or creepy very well. The Pack is one of my least favourite episodes ever. I just don't feel much deep emotion from Nicks acting the same way I do from other actors/actresses in the show.

I personally wouldn't be interested in seeing Firefly or Serenity at all if they had cast Nicholas Brendon. I don't rate him as an actor and he just has one of those faces that I don't like.

I didn't like Caleb at all. I thought he was just annoying. Although that line "Ready to finish this, bitch" was hilarious.

I don't really understand why people don't see Nick as a good actor. I thought he was fine as Xander. Is it because most of his co-stars landed roles elsewhere and he didn't do much after Btvs? I think he is a good actor and he good-looking 😉

It's a matter of opinion and taste. IMO I believe Brad Pitt is very overrated, acting and looks wise.

And I agree that Nick is good looking. I thought he was too handsome to play a dateless loser, Joss thought so, too.

I completely agree! Nick is fine.

I don't really like Brad Pitt either. Everyone who saw Fight Club is all "Oh Brad Pitt is so hot in that movie!" And I guess he was..kinda. But look at Edward Norton!! He is gorgeous and he (in my opinion) is a way better actor than Brad.

Watching the Replacement recently i was struck by how well Nick acted the two aspects of himself. Taking his character over the edge in each direction and keeping us on our toes about whether or not they were each genuine. I haven't seen him in anything else so i can't comment there, but i think he would have done a good job as Mal. I do however think the right choice was made for the chemistry of the crew of the Serenity, and agree with Goby that Nathan's seeming relative maturity contribute to more believable dynamics. (This is all in my imagination , I know).

Nick as Mal would have meant a different show I'm very happy with the one we got (the absence of season 2 and 3 notwithstanding)

You'd never know, maybe if Nick was Mal the show would have lasted a few more seasons. 😀

now there's a loop you could throw me for!
You know, I really want to see Nick in Private Practice (I only saw one scene in one episode), but, it's Private Practice. As in, the spinoff of Grey's Anatomy, which I cannot stand. I actually like Private Practice better, although I've seen very little of it. Will I understand what's going on if I just watch the episodes that he's in? And how is he in Criminal Minds? What kind of role does he play?

I do wish he were in more things, I really think he's probably a better actor than some of us think he is, but mainly because we just don't see him in a variety of roles. Too bad.

I watched all his episodes in Private Practice and was impressed by him, didn't care much about understanding the show. Just wanted to see Nick.

His character in Criminal Minds is quite similar to Xander, except the part about him being a computer nerd. 😀
