If Sarah Had Known...

I never got the idea that Sarah was in the acting business just for the money. She always seemed dedicated to her craft, with a really strong work ethic (Marsters has commented on how seriously she took er job several times). Actors like that seldom do what they do, just for the money. Certainly, they want to make the big bucks, that's only natural, but they also want to be challenged, to play different kinds of parts, and to be recognized as who they are, rather than one single role that they haven't played in almost 15 years. Whenever Sarah is on a talk show, is introduced, or interviewed, the main part of that introduction is always "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." That doesn't happen nearly as often with David, Anthony , or Alyson, unless, of course, they are at some Con somewhere, because they have had other successful roles since Season 7 ended.

In no way whatsoever am I trying to say that Sarah doesn't feel happy and fulfilled as a wife and mother, but I still say that she doesn't have that same sense of fulfillment (not financial security) when it comes to her acting career.

I think she tried to run from Buffy for a few years. As I recall, she made it clear that she didn't want to talk about that show in interviews. It's only in the last few years that she has come full circle to embrace the character.

She did have it rough - anyone who plays an iconic character does. And eventually they do embrace the character they try to shy away from. That said, without Buffy Maybelline would have no interest in her

I agree with this. Anyone who follows her on Twitter nowadays can see that she embraces her role as Buffy Summers.

That said, she definitely does not seem like she wants BTVS to be her only legacy.

I think she is proud of her work on BTVS but at the time maybe wanted to quit earlier.

But if I remember correctly, the reason BTVS ended at season 7 was because SMG put her foot down and said she was done. Presumably she could have done that anytime and chose not to. So I think it ended when it should have. Furthermore Sarah has had other memorable roles -- Scooby Doo, The Grudge, Cruel Intentions -- and even though her recent TV shows haven't exactly flourished, she has seemed passionate and appreciative about every role she's had... And she doesn't seem to have trouble being cast in starring roles, a feat for an actress, especially of her age.

I could go either way on this one. I think overall she would be satisfied that in someways when you combine the legency of Buffy with a few good and well paid film roles then I think she would think that she has acived more than most who get into the business. And of course she is still young enough to have a few more good parts yet. But she does seem grounded which is what you need to be. Maybe ideally she would have left after S5 though is the part I agree with.
