From the Do you like season 8 thread, I could confirm to myself that people weren't pleased with season 8. So now I'm wondering, if season 8 was on TV, would you have like it/liked it better/would you have watched it?

I would have watched it because it's Buffy, but I would have been ranting and pissed off all the while at the direction it took. I think it upsets me less because it's a comic and not on tv.

I think I would have watched it because it's easier than getting comics.

I agree with darla about it being less upsetting because it's a comic, since I can easily pretend the comics don't exist. 😛

If Season 8 had been on tv, it would have been completely different because the tv writers, actors, network and budget would have put restraints on Joss, which, apparently, he needs.

I think I would have liked it better, since I simply prefer TV shows. But I wonder if The Chain had been as moving on TV... Sometimes the comic medium gives something that other mediums can't. Like Buffy crying about being a "vampire" in the Twilight arc. Would that have been as beaitful on the show?

I definitly think I would prefer the actions scenes on TV though.

Id have watched and probably loved it. I think i just see comics as a lesser form. Like a step backwards. Kinda like being a top chef to working in burger king.

If we had gotten a S8 on TV, I'm fairly confident the only aspect of S8 the comic that would have kept was the network of slayers. Most certainly Twilight would not have happened. So yeah, I would have watched because it was Buffy, but it would not have been the story we got in the comics. And wouldn't that have been just...nifty. 🙂

S8 was on TV, wasn't it? It was an animated series.
Without it being animated, I would have watched it, but I doubt it could have played out the same.

I'm not done with season 8 so I can't give a full review but I definitely would have watched, because it's Buffy.

But I agree with some that (from what I know) it would have been better on TV because Joss would have been restrained on some points...

I just watched a clip of that on youtube. I could not watch that. I'd rather read the comics.

Yes, as everyone said it would have been a totally different and probably much better season due to all the restraints on actors returning and budget limits!!

As Darla put it:
I would have watched it because it's Buffy, but I would have been ranting and pissed off all the while at the direction it took. I think it upsets me less because it's a comic and not on tv.
As long as the Twilight arc and the space frak and all that would have been in, you bet I'd have loathed it on TV, too... and I agree with the sentiment above, it's easier for me, too, to discount as nonsense beneath my notice what happens after a complete shift of medium (much as, to my chagrin, I have to accept that S8&9 are official canon :sigh🙂 than I'd have been if it had just continued on TV like that.

Definite shark-jump either way, for me - but this way, I can chalk it up to "Joss lost the plot when he tried to adapt it to the comic medium" rather than "Joss turned into a moron why can't write good stuff anymore, period". 😉

Well I must say I really think that the acting took Buffy in a high place even in weak episodes, and also being on tv gave Joss a lot of budget restrictions that he apparently needs. Maybe I would have enjoyed season 8 and 9.
Also I would have loved to see the last part of season 9, the one's that creating all this scandal, on TV acted by SMG.

Ha, that would probably not be allowed on tv. :p
I would have loved seeing the actors for original characters like Satsu, Renee, Anaheed and Tumble. That would have been exciting.

Scenes that would have rocked on TV: Buffy hugging a crying Xander, Buffy's dreamspace, Buffy breaking down in front of Satsu, Buffy meeting Fray, Xander/Dracula, Oz and his family, Giles and Faith's friendship... lots of great things in S8 I'd love to see on TV.
