If something happened to the slayer (not death)

Ok I've been wondering this for a long time. If something to a slayer (pre-double slayer mess up) like they went into a coma for a long time then what would happen? Would another slayer be called even tho the first slayer is just in a coma, not dead? Also, is there an age limit on slayers? I know its a low low LOW chance for a slayer to live this long, but say one just happened to live until age 60 or up... Would they still have to slay? I don't think old ladies would be able to do it. So what would happen?

Lol, two odd quetions.

First point about the coma - I would say no since Faith was in a coma and no slayer was called.

Second point - a slayer who got too old to slay would be killed thus activating another... 🙂

This does raise some interesting questions. Like what if a Slayer was paralysed and confined to a wheelchair. Wheelchairs and slaying don't mix.

Considering how dark the Watcher's Council has been protrayed, they might very well kill an incapacitated Slayer, allowing a new one to be called.

Sounds like fodder for a fan fic. ;-)

Yeah, like Buffy Summers said. No new slayer was called when Faith was in a coma, so no.. But, if there was only one slayer, and she was in a coma, I wouldn't be surprised if someone killed her... And if a slayer was in a wheelchair, I'd sayd she'd probablt not survive for long either. Tragical but..

In the 'Tales of the Slayer' it says the oldest slayer was... well, I think she was under thirty. She started getting creaky and pretty much sacrificed herself so someone else could do her job for her.

I think that's what anyone getting older would have to do, or the Council would help them along.

My thoughts EXACTLY. Everything for the cause right? They would most definitely be putting hits out on aged/incapacitated slayers.

Oh, wow I never really thought about the Watchers Council. I should have, but... Nope.

That would make an interesting fanfic... But I suck at writing stories. (i'm working on a Xander/Cordy one, and I doubt I'll post it cause its my first one ever, so it sucks) Thanks for the answers!

Why would they need to? A vamp would seek her out, beat her and kill her.

🙂

Actually Comma and I discussed the possibility of a potential being called with the Scythe spell that was older...well in better terms geriatric. If all the women/girls who could be slayers would be from that spell, there might be some old lady slayers who may suddenly feel a bit of a kick in their plastic hip.

Ok on the serious side, I agree about the Watcher's Council. They're shown to be quite rogue in Season 4 and I can imagine something like that happening. It's a possibility to explore in the Buffy-Boards Tales of the Slayer fanfic 😀

Well I guess I was thinking along the lines of say Faith. Faith is young, healthy, yet incapacitated (she's in prison) and can't function as the Slayer. It's ok in the Verse because we have Buffy. But say Buffy wasn't resurrected. Faith in prison (or any slayer) would be a liability and would have to be removed somehow by the Council.

Or.....maybe the vamp that would seek out an older slayer etc. would be hired by the Watcher's Council to do so..lol we know Spike did things for money 😀

Theoretically, a Slayer could be old etc and in hiding, so not easy for your average demon or vamp to find without a little help from the Council. I didn't mean that the Council would do their dirty work, only that they would be responsible for the Slayer's death.

Yeah, I bet Spike would work for the council.. he likes killing slayers and why not get payed while doing that..? Or.. they could be like the Initiative, building Adams to kill their good-for-nothing slayers..? Uh, no idea but I agree that it definitely seems like something they would do. Killing slayers who weren't really working for them, to get new slayers. Speaking of that.. They didn't exactly love Buffy and Faith was, like you've mentioned, in prison. They could have killed both of them (or at least Faith, since Buffy wouldn't have acticated a new slayer), getting themselves a new slayer... Sort of start over..? Ehh..

I agree that the Council would see her as a liability and take efforts to have her removed. An ineffective slayer does not save the world.
I'm not sure if this is exactly the right idea, but you've got to wonder. How could an incapacitated slayer be worthwhile?

Oooh maybe they did! 😉 And we just didn't 'hear' about it. Now there's a cool idea for a fanfic. Take a big bad and twist it around so that the Watcher's Council was behind it! 😀

I never thought about this before, but the woman who tried to kill Faith in prison could have been hired by the council if what you are saying is right.

Nah, not in a time of trouble like the time that took place in. That was when the first was trying to kill all of the slayers...I think that girl with the knife was the first's idea.

Yeah, when I first watched season 7 (and hadn't watched Angel) I thought Faith almost told us she was attacked by someone that had something to do with The First. I thought that was why she broke out of jail and went to Sunnydale.

The woman who attempted to kill Faith in prison was definately working for The First, you only have to see the dagger she was using to know that to be true. Wonder if it was Caleb who contacted her and gave her the weapon? Hmmm! 🙂

As for what Cordelia posted about older slayers, that was my theory as well. It has never been determined that a potential slayer ever gets too old to be called. It has just always been the way that a slayer is usually in their early to mid teens when called because there has always been a wide selection of girls to choose from when the last slayer dies. The older a potential gets the less likely that they will be the next selected (by whoever or whatever does the selecting) because there are younger, fitter girls available.

However when Willow did the scythe spell and activated all potentials at the same time that removed the relevance of the age issue and so all the girls worldwide who were born as potentials would receive the power. To me that means that there would be women in their 50's, 60's and even older who suddenly found themselves able to kick vamp ass, lol. 😀

I can't actually remember the name of the Buffy book (and I'm too lazy to go and check - it was the series of 4 and it was set in the future) But anyway, Buffy had been in jail for years and when she finally got out, she was no longer viewed as the hero she once was. The younger slayer and slayers in waiting thought her a coward for not taking her own life so that the next slayer could be called. Faith was viewed as the hero and not Buffy.

Cool, haven't read it but that sounds like an interesting book. Kinda depressing though.
I don't think that a Slayer would ever be too old to slay, I mean they would still have Slayer strength and ability, so I think they would be okay. And I agree with everybody else about the coma and wheelchair thing. I don't think the world would last long if the slayer was in a coma. A new slayer isn't called until one dies, so there would be no slayer to fight the forces of darkness. I have no idea what they would do then.

Oh, and The Lost Slayer series rocks!! I have the omnibous. 🙂
