I am not really sure how Tara would have fit into the show besides just being "Willow's girlfriend". They never really gave her any interaction besides anyone but Buffy and Dawn outside of her interaction with Willow, so I think her role in the show would have been the same.

When Tara was first introduced, she was shy, introverted, withdrawn, barely ever even speaking when she should have. By the time of her death, she was a more powerful witch, though, obviously not in Willow's league, outspoken, and not afraid to stand up for what she believed was right, even to the point of breaking up with who was almost certainly the only person in her life who had really loved her. If she had lived through Season 6 and on into Season 7, I believe that she would have sided with Buffy in her belief that Spike deserved a chance to prove himself and would have been a calming force during the mutiny against Buffy's authority (just my opinion on those last two, of course) but above and beyond all of that, if she had survived into Season 7, she would have performed one service of incalculable value to the show.

She would have kept the Willow/Kennedy atrocity from ever happening.

The only way to keep Tara alive without her being just Willow's shy and sweet girlfriend, is by her turning evil. That might be a nice way to continue her character when there's no other way to go.

I always love the time when Tara has to "fight" against her family. Maybe she could get a Spin-off, inwhich she turns away from the scoobie gang and tries to stopp her family with magic and new friends to abuse the female family-members. In the end she could return to Willow!

I don't know where her character could have gone if she didn't die, but I would have liked it if she stayed alive. I always liked Tara and I think that she came a long way from when we first saw her. 🙂

Personally, I really wanted to see if/how the time away from Willow changed Tara. Willow became more timid again, but we never got to see if Tara became stronger. I wanted to see her take a stand with Willow and really help her get control of her magic. I wanted to see her be the more domineering one, and let Willow rely on her, instead of the other way around. I wanted their relationship to grow even deeper than it was.

I think that Tara was going through a great development, becoming so outspoken and supportive of Buffy. I remember I laughed so hard during Older and far away because of the jokes with Spike.

Why would she have to turn evil? Cordy didn't turn evil. (Okay, she kinda did in Season 4, but that wasn't really her) She grew up, she matured, she evolved, she stopped being the shallow air head rich girl that she was in the early seasons of "Buffy." Xander managed to evolve from the stumble bum butt monkey from the early seasons into a responsible adult. Giles started out as pretty much the model book worm librarian, but became a serious, dangerous as hell when ticked off demon fighter (forget about Ripper, we never knew anything about him in the beginning) Willow did become evil, but it wasn't the shy little nerdy computer whiz, it was the self assured evil she-witch that she became that almost destroyed the world. Even Dawn evolved from the dumb squealing baby sister into a major kleptomaniac.

Being evil isn't a prerequisite for change in the Buffyverse, it just seems to be a fairly common byproduct. My point is, Tara could have very easily evolved in a positive way, without the optional stop over in Evil City. In fact, given that she was arguably one of the most stable, dedicated, and determined character on the show, having her go over to the dark side would seem to me to be highly unlikely.

I think she would have continued to be Willow's girlfriend, and would have stopped Kennedy from happening and made Season 7 more watchable. 🙂

Others have said that maybe she could have turned evil at one point, but I would hate if that would happen. Tara is not that kind of person, she's been practicing magic her whole life and she's learned how to control it. But I would have liked to see her battle in Chosen, although I have a feeling Joss would have ended her there if she didn't already end in Seeing Red.

Rather than figting the Ubervamps, I see Tara being with Willow when she unleashed the spell that would turn every Potential into a fully active Slayer.
