If Ted was a robot..

It's a show where they manage to create very very life-like robots, so I assume it wouldn't be a issue to be able to make him decompose food inside of him, or make him empty himself once in a while.

Maybe he shits food?

The mystery of Ted and the underground chamber at his home is just one of several that Joss has tossed out over the years with the basic understanding that the fans would accept it and go on with the present story. Yes, the background stories would quite likely be of interest to at least some of the fans, but they didn't specifically contribute to the story that Joss was telling at the moment, so time and effort aren't wasted on them. That's not to say that they might not be revisited at some later date and filled out as would be needed at that time. We may yet some day finf out Ted's back story, or exactly the Immortal is, or what really happened in the year and a half between the end of Season 7 and the beginning of Season 8, or maybe how Angel got to be friends with Drogan, the Guardian of the Well of Souls. Maybe the devil will one day build another robot, and Angel will have to call the Five Brothers back from the grave to help defeat it. Only time will tell.

Like already said, I think the human Ted made a robot version of himself before he died and implanted his memories into the robot and stuff much like the Buffybot.

And I'm also sure that the robot was able to rid of the food he consumed much like we do. 😛
 
Ted must've built it himself before he died. And the whole point of the robot is to convince others that it is actually human. It'd be a little too suspicious if it never ate food...
 
I think they mentioned that he made the robot version of himself, died, and then the robots kept making more Ted robots. I think that's how it worked...I really don't remember haha I haven't re-watched that episode in the longest time. I also can't remember him eating, but again, I tend to skip that one when I do a re-watch 😉 I would have liked to have known more about Ted's life because technically he was a serial killer and I'm fascinated by anything even remotely related to serial killers...but as white avenger pointed out, Joss left it out because we didn't need all of the details.

Is it sick that I was dying to know what the hell was in the closet? And how often did Ted recycle wives? Uch.
 
I just re-watched this episode and he didn't eat anything, just kept feeding other people 😛 However, he did drink something :S
 
I think that the human ted was dying and his wife left him, before he died he built a robot and programmed it to bring his wife back. So, robot ted continued to woo women who looked like human ted's wife, marry them, bring them to his basement cave thing till the woman died, then he'd repeat the process. That's what I make of it at least. Could definitely be wrong.

I think the original Ted created the Ted robot before he died. I don't remember a whole lot from this episode, but I'll pay more attention to it when I re-watch the series.
 
I think it is one of the weaker episodes they ever made and so I tend to gloss a lot of the plot holes in this one. To my understanding Ted made a robot of himself and then died, possibly? I always got the impression that they were offered a guest appearance and they bodged an episode around it.

So I can overlook an eating robot. As they do exist.

In saying that, I'm not a fan of this ep either, though there is a bit of continuity to this episode, and I'm a stickler for continuity.
The whole robots in BtVS was brought back up when Warren in season 5 builds April. I think there is a mention that he found robot parts in a landfill(alluding to Ted being the robot parts). I could be mistaken that there was an alluding to Ted. Anyone else remember this?

I thought he made the robot because the real ted's wife was gonna leave him so he made a robot version of himself known as "the better ted" for her so she wouldn't leave, but then the ted robot kidnapped the real ted's wife and kept her in his bunker till she died, then eventually at some point the real ted must have died and the robot sought other woman who resembled his wife and just repeated the process over and over again, must have been at least four times because when xander looks in the bunker cordelia asks what he found and he says "ted's four wives".

He must have been one sick man.

I think this is a really good point. To be honest I never really thought much about Ted or how he came to be. If I remember correctly (never a guarantee), the original Ted was a mechanical and engineering genius from the 50's who somehow discovered a way to transplant his consciousness or essence or whatever into the robot he designed. I thought Willow said something about this.

This might be one of those times though when it's best not to think too deeply about it though. Like White Avenger said, the story in the moment is what mattered.

Yes, the human Ted builds a better robot Ted before he dies. Xander says:

''So, I'm Ted, the sickly loser. I'm dying and my wife dumps me. I build a better Ted. He brings her back, holds her hostage in his bunker'o'love until she dies. And then he keeps bringing her back, over and over. Now, now that's creepy on a level I hardly knew existed.''
