If the Anointed one had continued

Am I the only person who found the casual way the anointed one someone who so much had been built around in season 1, now seemed in charge in first few episodes of season 2, the way he was CASUALLY, even contempusoly removed at the end of the episode, a slap in the face.

I understand his removal was sadly neccessary as they couldnt manage to go with a "Perpetualy yougn child"

But I am curious where he might have gone if he'd stayed longer.

I honestly don't think he could have lasted in a place like Sunnydale.

There were a lot of traditional vamps in the Master's court - like Luke - but the majority of the vampires we saw were more like Spike, the ones to balk tradition and anything like that.

I think, if Spike hadn't been the one to do it, someone would have taken him out. Trick wouldn't have stood for it and I can't really see Angelus following orders from a ten year old boy.

IMO, The Annoying One had done what he was supposed to do - lure Buffy to the Master. If the Master had survived, it might have been different, we might have seen what Colin could have become under his guidance, but on his own, he had no real purpose, and with a lot of vamps who shucked the traditional, there was just no place for him. If Spike hadn't taken him out, someone else would have.

There was no way The Annoying little ...., er One could have stayed. Especially in a series that most of the shooting was made at night.
So kudos to Spike.
And what was The Annointed One annointed with, or was it just a name?
As far as I'm aware to annoint means to smear with oil, and Annointed is what an RC priest does to a dying person.

Given the depth of contempt that Buffy had for The Master, and that Spike took out The Masters Annointed One, is that why Buffy developed a liking of Spike?

It'd have been interesting to see where the story was going to go, I dont think I've ever heard Joss mention the possible story for the Anointed one.

I also can't see them having Buffy slay him, even as a vampire having your main character slay a child might have been a bit much, so I imagine the ending he had was always going to be his ending, I also agree with Lyri any of the other vamps could have done it, no way My. Trick or Angelus would have put up with him.

I can only imagine the story would have been something similar/reflection to Buffys the idea of childhood lost, I just can't see the character as a truly evil character.

It has multiple meanins I think... Yeah just checked and :

1. To apply oil, ointment, or a similar substance to.
2. To put oil on during a religious ceremony as a sign of sanctification or consecration.
3. To choose by or as if by divine intervention.

So yeah maybe there would have been a reflection in Buffys character in him, Buffy chosen for good, him chosen for evil (although I think he'd have to be older to have a proper storyline!)

The Anointed One served two purposes:

1. He led the Slayer to the trap the Master set for her.
2. It gave us a spectacular introduction to Spike, who dissed the vampire who claimed to be at the resurrection and killed the Anointed One.

This is why he arrived. That is why he left.

There's no way having a ten year old boy lead the vampires all of which at least ten times his age would have held up. It's rediclous and the character doesn't demand respect. Spike demonstrates the lack of power there. The anointed one already hung around longer than necessary. His purpose was made clear, to lead the slayer to the master so the prophecy could be fufilled and he served it.

I dont think he would have lasted in Sunnydale either, but maybe he'd run away instead and move around. Im not sure how smart he was or what lore was put in his head, but he could probably survive on his own if he was careful and didnt cause trouble. Maybe to have come back in a Buffy remake one day 😛

I liked the way he was taken out. It made me take Spike seriously as a threat and not just another vampire.

I have to agree I don't think he would have survived much longer as Lyri said, somone would have taken him out. It just happened to be Spike (which made me love his character more in the early days). He served a purpose as the others have said.

I, for one, am glad Spike took care of him so easily. That little kid really annoyed me for some reason. I don't know if I could have taken much more of him!

SoulOfAngelus wrote about having a ten year old boy rule those ten times his age....
How old was the annoying drop of bat sh.. Given the way Spike offed him, by putting him in the sunlight. He was a vampire and as such could have been older than any of them.
Was it said who he was?
If not you could have a field day.
As BEG put 'To choose by, or as if by divine intervention'
Would Buffy have killed him, with his appearance as a boy I doubt it. But if he looked like a vampire she could have.

Off Topic.
To those fan fic writers out there he could have been the bastard child of a bloke called Judas Iscariot who idolised his estranged father, if he prompted Judas to do what he did then he may well have had divine intervention (or a severe telling off at least). He might even have become the first vampire.

I...don't understand this.

We know who the Anointed One was. He was a 10 year old boy called Colin who was killed in a bus crash in 'Never Kill A Boy On The First Date' and was then turned into a vampire at the surprise of everyone. It was the prophecy that Buffy had to leave her date with Owen to take care of, when they found out that the 'Anointed One' would wake from some sort of disaster where a specific number of people were killed. The bus crash fit that number. We know for a fact that he's been a vampire for less than a year by the time of 'School Hard'. That is canon.

The first rule of writing a heros and villains story is that the villain has to be a credible threat to the hero. One actor who has turned from playing hero to villain parts is John Travolta who was everything you would expect a villain in Face Off, Broken Arrow and Swordfish.

Andrew J. Ferchland who plays The Anointed One is not a credible villain. A credible villain has to have the ruthlessness, intelligence and physical dominance to be a threat to the hero. The character seems to be based on a grade-school age cult leader who has amassed a fortune from his believers but has not appeared to be a villain in the sense that it would be needed in the story. So he is gone and nobody misses him.

He almost certainly wouldn't have lasted much longer, even if Spike hadn't dusted him. Anointed or not, he was a little boy with the proportionate strength for a vampire of a little boy. Some other, more powerful vamp would have killed him in a fight for dominance of the clan, gang, pack, or territory, whichever. Even with the protection of his loyal followers, eventually someone was going to get to him.

Ethan Reigns,
A credible villain has to have the ruthlessness, intelligence and the physical prescence to be a threat to the hero. Really? Before they met I dare say the Fear God was a credible threat to Buffy.

Lyri,
send me a PM I'll try to explain what you don't understand about my post.

The prophecy which foretold his arrival stated "Out of the ashes of five, the anointed one will rise". Or something to that effect. Basically the gang knew that in the near future somehow five would die and out of those five would be the anointed one. Colin, the anointed one was an average ten year old boy who was involved with four others in a car crash in which one other man was turned vampire and mistaken for the anointed one. You can tell Colin was new from the scenes where The Master is mentoring him.

SoulOfAngelus,
Lyri has already said that the Annointed One rose from the bus crash.
I had completely forgotten about that.
Which makes my post seem all kinds of wrong.
My forgetting about it was due to my thinking that situation was ludicrous; I didn't understand how a human could become a vampire by just being in a bus crash. I kept waiting for a decent explanation, and 'strange things happen on a hellmouth' wasn't enough for me.

Sorry, I didn't see Lyri answer the concern and it had been directed at me.
No worries, I have found myself in this spot quite a bit.

Thinking about this brings to mind how surprising it is that Buffyverse seems to not have the no turning kids rule that most vampire story lines do. Unless the anointed one was an exception.

Unless the anointed one was an exception.

Off the top of my head, I can think of two other child vampires that have come out of this verse - not counting the comics, I think there was something about a kid vamp in one of the Tales, Vampires or Slayers, I can't recall.

Buffy doesn't kill either one of them, though, so there is that. Like someone else mentioned, seeing Buffy kill a child - whether they were a vampire or not - seems one step too far.

Lyri Of course Buffy killing a child vampire or not would have been worse than her having succeeded in killing Faith.

I'm at a loss here, where does the Buffy trying to kill Faith story come into this?
