Question If The Comics Went To T.V...

If season 8 & 9 of BtVS (Comics) and AtS (After The Fall) Went onto T.V, do you think they would be as well recieved and as popular as BtVS was from season 1-7? And likewise with AtS?

I know the comics can be hit and miss with some people,and have divided opinions, with some people likeing them, and others saying that BtVS ended at season 7 etc.

Would you want to see them on T.V if the original cast were available? Or are they best left in the book?
 
They wouldnt be the same storyline if it had been on television because Angel would have been on his show so therefore he couldnt be twilight and they wouldn't have the budget to do all the crazy stuff so maybe they would have actually put some thought into the storyline instead of coming up with complete utter crap. Then maybe I would have liked it.

However Ats comics would have been SO AWESOME to see on tv.
 
Season 8 could have been televised without very much modification, though they would have to rely more strongly on computer graphics than they have in the past. As for Angel not being able to be Twilight because of the network conflict, they could have used both Spike and Angel for long enough to do their main scenes, even if they had to resort to standins for a lot of the scenes. The Buffy/Angel gymnastics couldn't have been so graphic, but there's no reason why they couldn't have worked around that the same way that they did with the Buffy/Spike action in "Smashed" and "Wrecked" was.

As for "After The Fall," Joss said that they had pretty much planned out Season 6 to be basically what the comic book showed, just probably hell would not be depicted on such a grand scale.
 
Didn't Joss say that if he had a chance to continue Buffy either in TV or movies, he would scrap the entire season 8 storyline and start fresh? I thought I heard that somewhere.
 
No, because season 8 sucked. Fans of AtS, and Angel the character, would tune out in droves.

And the writing sucked too.
 
If the Twilight went to TV that would be pretty awesome (the buffy not the shitty movies ugh!)

He did, I remember watching a panel with him on youtube and he said the same thing (but I have no idea what it was called)
 
Why do so many people hate Season 8, I thought it was alright?

The destroyed Angel's character, the art sucked the majority of the run, the writing was pretty godawful, Harmony was in it, pointless Dawn sub-plots, they destroyed Angel's character, Buffy financed her people by robbing banks and jewelry stores, they brought back every character (Warren, Amy, Oz, The Master, etc.) whether it made sense or not, they destroyed Angel's character, it became more about spectacle than character, Angel took the advice of a talking dog, Willow became an exhibitionist, and THEY DESTROYED ANGEL'S CHARACTER!

Wow, harsh...
Oh hell no. I certainly wouldn't receive it well. For one, the budget would be a problem--Buffy's not Game of Thrones or Terra Nova now is it?--and Angel's character (the Twilight stuff, while kinda compelling, was just so awful, plus he would have to kill Giles). I have a hard enough time watching Angel for the first time and not having the whole Twilight deal at the back of my mind, but to actually see it for real...Gahhh! No thanks!
 
Joss's comment about season 8 makes it seem like it could be non-canon-ish, like a hypothetical "what if scenario" just in case the series doesn't go back to TV.
 
I think they can't reach the level of season 1 to 7. It's not the same. I know what I am talking about because I started with the comics.( Of course not on TV)! They can't bring jokes or emotions as good as in the real films. But I think h´they would be a great Tv show too!

But he also said he wouldn't have done the season 8 comics if there was any chance whatsoever of continuing the TV show. It's not something that's even on his radar anymore.

Season 8 was too successful to simply throw away at this point, anyway. It's the top-selling comic of the last 5 years not published by Marvel or DC. If by some miracle Joss had a chance to do something again with Buffy on TV or the movies, I'm sure he'd accommodate the comics story.

I think the comics would translate well as an animated series. I'm not so sure it would work as a live-action series, even if they had the budget to do it. Scott Allie told me that the season 8 comics are not what season 8 of the TV show would have been, because Joss was specifically throwing away the TV format and doing it as a comic book instead.
 
You know, with regards to the comics popularity, it seems they got rave reviews from critics. Plus that best selling bit. But fan reactions (including me) have been... well, less than stellar. I really hated S8. Why's there such a discrepancy?
