I wouldn't say that. Although AtS is certainly more geared toward drama, the first three seasons of BtVS were heavy on the comedy. I used to laugh more during an episode of Buffy than I did watching a season of Friends. The later seasons were certainly more drama than comedy (which I personally think explains why the the show peaked in season three) but early on it was a perfect mix.

BtVS is famous for blending genres. Drama, comedy, horror, action it was all of these and more. It even had episodes where the sole purpose was comedy and drama was an after thought. By no means is comedy a no-no when it comes to Whedon's shows.

A sitcom would be a change, but it would still fit.

I meant no direct comedy, such as Friends or Scrubs or something where its about the jokes. I love the subtle humour in Buffy and in general as nobody in life walks around telling jokes all day long and having a happy life.

You don't remember Xander do you? All the gang were originally making with the mirth on a regular basis. Heck, even Giles was often funny... GILES! There were entire episodes devoted almost solely to comedy.

Let's also not forget that sitcoms are almost never about comedy alone. They often possess drama as well. Sitcoms have dealt with death, cancer, unwanted pregnancy, alchoholism, drug abuse and just about ever other "dramatic" subject available and they often do so seriously with jokes set between the more dramatic moments (much like Buffy does).

I still say that a sitcom would fit the Buffyverse quite well. A slight change of pace perhaps but it wouldn't be anything jarring. BtVS was originally as much about comedy as it was about drama.
 
How about a spinoff starring Sarah Michelle Gellar (she's probably lookng for work now that The Grudge is done filming). They could call it Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Then, when the WB cancels it you could have a spinoff starrng David Boreanaz called Angel. Then, when the WB cancels that they could do a spinoff starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and call it... well, you get the picture.

I mean, the WB is remaking Dark Shadows and Lost in Space, why not Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel?
 
I like the idea of a Fred related spin-off.

I also like Spike or Wesley. Preferable Wesley - I like that character "muchos" more.

Eh - any spin-off would be good.
 
Here's an idea, instead of a spinoff they could just totally re-tool Angel. With the huge success of reality TV such as American Idol, and Survivor, they could just adopt some of those concepts. They could have W&H hire a bunch of new employees and fill those roles with a bunch of unknown actors that get paid nothing (or next to it). Every week the viewers can vote for one new actor to get the axe (metaphorically) and their character would then also get the axe (literally). So we'd vote actors off the show and then the writer would kill off the characters in new and interesting ways (perhaps also voted on by the viewers!). Then, at the end of the season, the last remaining new cast member gets a permanent spot on the show and their name in the credits.

I mean, reality TV is already killing our favoite shows, why not just let it mutilate them instead!

Illyria would seriously be one of the coolest spin-offs. Faith would just be another Slayer show. Buffy did that. Spike (as much as I would love to see it) would just be another vampire-with a soul show. Angel did that.

But what if Illyria was able to go back in time to her dimension. She finds that her role of ruler had been taken up. She now has to struggle back to the top. She can recruit a rag-tag group of people (including Wesley) to help her do so.

What a show.
 
Well having just watched the finale it makes things a lot more difficult.
What I propose is show involving some kids with super-powers ie. a slayer, a werewolf, a warlock. Their mentor could be Giles. Andrew could appear in a supporting role. All the scoobs could pop in and out randomly.
So the kids are being trained much as buffy but this time it's a team instead of an individual who holds the power.
But the twist comes when Wesley appears from beyond the grave to Giles telling him things to help the helpless.
I would love that show. They could even bring Ilyria in with the gang mistaking her for evil and fighting her for a bit before joining forces etc.
There is heaps of potential there.

Hey Joss I want props if you use this. Could be called 'Supernaturals'...that's a bit lame. I'm sure I could think of a better one.

PS the WB have not picked up Dark Shadows so no vampire show for them.
