If you could change ONE thing about the Season Finale...

I almost called Joss, Giles. Any who...I feel like Joss wanted it to end on a good note, which is why he had them not give a kitty about Anya's death. I remember him saying that if Dawn or any of the "core four" had died, that it wouldn't have been a happy ending. I, for one, am peeved that Dawn got the last word. Something about that just doesn't sit right with me. I like Dawn but...grr.

I also feel like maybe it was somewhat realistic for them not to grieve right at that moment. They all seemed to accept that some of them were going to die in the end. They were prepared for it. I was sad that Anya died and kind of surprised. Season 7 might have been the only season I watched without running into any spoilers beforehand.
 
Dawn should have died. Everything else can stay as is.
As far as what Joss said about if the core four or Dawn died, it wouldn't be a happy ending . . . well, does that mean killing Anya and Spike IS a happy ending? If characters are going to die, it can't be an entirely happy ending, so how is killing Anya and Spike less sad than killing Dawn or, say, Kennedy or Wood?
 
I would have had Angel stay and wear the amulet into the hellmouth, and Buffy and Spike leave town to organize the Second Front. They could organize it somewhere like Las Vegas, where there's a great night life, and then they could stay indoors all day and ... lay out their battle plans.
 
I don't think I would have changed anything. Yes, Anya's death was incredibly quick and sad, but would you rather it be slow and painful? And I think Xanya got their last moment with Xander calling out for Anya and Andrew explaining to Xander what she did. I think I am the odd one out when I say that I loved Season 7 and the series finale and I would not change a thing. Also I really don't think that Giles and Buffy needed to reconcile. Buffy in my opinion did not "disown", but realized that she was a woman that was no longer in need of the teacher figure she had needed when she was in high school. And then the hate and disagreement starts rolling.
 
Personally, I really didn't like the potentials. I especially didn't like that they all became slayers. So I'd change that.
(I love Anya so her death upset me but the whole 'share the power' crap bugged me even more)
 
Yeah i agree Anya's death was quick and it wasnt personal enough. I thought it might have been quite cool/sweet to have had only the original scoobies survive (and dawn i guess).

I would have made it a 2 hour finale, that way more things could have been shown, like some other suggestions; Giles visiting Jenny's grave, the Scoobies acknowledging Anya's death etc
 
I would've made it a 2 hour event too, & I would've changed the whole ubervamps are magically much weaker now that we need them to be story, it just wasn't logical ..

True (about the uber-vamps). I know that Joss has acknowledged that in his episode commentary, but my line of thinking is maybe The First was empowering the first one that they encountered, like it did with Caleb? Maybe a bit of a stretch, granted, but at least it would explain it a bit.
 
Spike and Buffy

It always makes me mad when Joss Whedon does his usual thing to just make everyone so sad.

I think if I had to change one thing about 'Chosen', it would be to have Spike live and for him and Buffy to be happy together.

I'm a hardcore Spuffy shipper, so this is probably a cliche answer, but I really, really wish that had happened.

You obviously can tell that Spike genuinely loves Buffy. He has since Season 5, or if you're me, since he first saw her. And although Buffy treats him like complete shit, you can tell throughout the seventh season that she's definitely developing more feelings for him. Obviously she had sexual feelings for him in Season 6, but here you can see that those feelings are turning into feelings of love and friendship, rather than sex and abuse.

I just think by the last episode, in that very moment when their hands are clasped, you can see that Buffy genuinely loves Spike, and I think when he didn't believe her, it broke her heart. I feel as though Spike did believe her deep down, but I feel like if he had said something along the lines of 'I love you too', Buffy would have stayed down there with him, and they both would have died. So I think he said what he said to protect her life, really.

So If I could change something, yeah. It would be for Spike to not have died, and for him and Buffy to finally be happy together, because I think they really could have a good life together.

Im the opposite, I will never get over Buffy and Angel. I also wish ANgel had played a larger role in the finale although I know it would have been impossible to have him there at the end since he would have worn the medallion instead of Spike.

Totally agree. Angel showing up in "Chosen" is one of my favorite parts of the episode. When I first saw it, I was a little disappointed that he didn't have a larger role, but looking back on it and re-watching it, I think it fits really well. I liked Spike's arc a lot in S7, and they had been building him into the leading male role for three years. As much as I love Angel, it wouldn't have done Spike (or the story) justice to revert that in the final episode. And the fact that Spike and Buffy aren't meant for one another is actually a cool aspect to them.

"Chosen" has one of my favorite Bangel moments, to tell you the truth. The way I see it, it pretty much implies that when the fighting is done, someday they'll be together. Very cool. 🙂

Here's one thing I change. Willow fries her brain trying to cast the spell or better yet, gets her black magic woman groove back. Everything else is just a chain reaction. Willow smears the wall with Kennedy's guts, takes the scythe and leaves, murdering everyone on her way out. The potentials are shredded by ubervamps, Faith dies fighting, Buffy gives up and gladly welcomes her death. Spike menages to put on the amulet though and the hell mouth is destroyed.

On the surface Willow smiles watching the city crumble, thinking it would be all sorts of fun to tear Buffy out of heaven again. Somewhere in Japan a new slayer is called.

I like the idea of Murphys Law taking place on the last episode. It was pretty straight forward. If Willow backfired, or anything really.

I like the idea of everyone dying off as well. Leaving the show with the open ending of a random slayer elsewhere.

Personally, I don't know about Buffy accepting her death. I would have felt like that after seven years that maybe she wasn't a fighter after all. Everyone else could have died in battle. Maybe Spike taking out Willow with the amulet, and less Willow conquering all.

Just to have changed the straight forward approach would have been way cool.

I pretty much agree with a lot of people so far. Make it longer. Kill off more people. I would have even left the ending open. Giles mentioning another Hellmouth wasn't that open. Then again. The ending, the closure, was fine as well. 😎

Isn't that how slayers generally die? With everybody dead and Spike sparkling like that wanker from another franchise Buffy has nobody to fight for. What's to keep her going when heaven awaits? Take away her friends and her family and what's left? I don't think Buffy's naive enough to believe in a happily ever after, her future is pretty much more of the same, basically pain, suffering and most likely insanity.

I once heard a story about this wealthy, enlightened guy from 19th century who kept a brass sphere. Whenever he was in pain, whenever he was depressed he would rub that sphere until it fit into the barrel of his gun. That was when he used it to blow his brains out. He's just had enough.

Slayers are kinda similar. I think they have the right to give up. The only way to keep fighting forever is to become a vampire. I believe Buffy would rather blow her own brains out instead.
