If you could write a novel, what kind would you write? Action? Adventure? Romance? A crazy tale about two siblings obsessed with playing Checkers? Ever thought about what the story would be and who the characters would be based on? Theme?

I'd want to write something that mixes genres. All of my favorite stories (doesn't matter if it's a book or television) kind of cover multiple genres. I'd like to write something with it's own unique mythology. I don't have a specific story in mind right now (I've tried writing things several times before but usually don't make it too far before I become unsatisfied with the job I'm doing). I'm trying to come up with something though, because my job is terrible and I have a lot of free time on my hands that needs to be filled with something besides Buffy Boards and beer.

If you want help, or ideas not a problem, contact me here or in Drogyn or by PM.
I've done over 30 fan-fics. They are usually based on mixing mythology and fantasy or fact, history, folklore, legend, I've had two novels published but the sales aren't enough to brag about.
But at least I can say I tried.

If I were to write a novel, it would probably involve the following: some fantasy (or sci-fi), maybe an alternate universe kind of deal, some action, some romance, a strong female main character, some comic relief, and a bloody evil opponent. Basically, your standard fantasy story. I've tried it a couple of times, but I appear to be utterly unable to transfer my thoughts to paper. The ideas are there, but I just can't write them down.

So just write what thoughts you do have for the story, you can always change them later.
I have a couple ideas for novels. Actually I have three good ones. They are all pretty strongly rooted in some form of Mythology. I've got one that's about Selkies that I've done a lot of character development for. I've written some scenes from it too. It's probably going to be the first one I actively tackle, instead of just toy with occasionally.

I have dabbled in fanfic as well. I've written some Spike and Phantom stuff. They're just both easiest for me to channel. I've never posted any of it though.

Have you guys heard of national novel writing month? It's November and the point of it is to write a certain amount of words from November 1st to the end of the month. This forces you to write and at least get a full rough draft. It is supposed to really work for motivation. I'm definitely planning on doing it this year. There is a whole site based on it where people post and talk about their progress. Seems like a good time anyway.

I wrote loads of short stories but never had to discipline to write a novel in some form though, i have many ideas though and my two favourites would be romance and something based on mythology basically blending a lot of myths together, writing is great.

Do what I did, take 2 or 3 similar stories and join them, it may help.
/me copies paper doll's post because this is almost EXACTLY what I'd say. I'd probably go a little more sci-fi/romance than fantasy, but basically, she got it....right here:

I like your ideas! (sw)
I actually have a half finished novel (with two finished, but discarded previous versions of it) dusting away in the recesses of my PC's files. It's a historical fantasy based in King Arthur's time, mostly a spin on events of my life dramatized if I had lived in the mythicized 6th century A.D. 😉

The main reason why I haven't worked on it in the last years is that too much has changed in my life since I first had the idea for the novel (back when I was 17 🙂 ) and I don't really know how to get the story out in the end now, as I couldn't stand anymore the ending the 1st and 2nd versions took. 😛

If you want any assistance with the ending, send me a PM. The start I can do and the end, it is the 60 or 70,000 words in the middle I have a problem with.
I once had an idea for a story about an immortal warrior (non-human, but so similar as to be basically identical in appearance except for snow white hair) whose entire race had been destroyed by Alchemists, who used their blood as a key element in an immortality elixir. He had been tracking them down one by one for centuries, until modern times, where only he and a few of them were left. I was giong to call it called Talan, the White Avenger.

I like that! You should write it!
Not sure about a novel, but i'd love to do my autobiography. I even have a few ideas of titles to choose from. "The legend of CotA, an era of greatness" or "CotA, the life and times of a bastard" or "Rise of a hero, the age of CotA" or "CotA: Better Than You"
