If you don't watch Angel - Why not?

Okay. Uhm. I didn't mean to offend you, I was just answering the question in the thread name. That's why I've never really watched it...

I can't grasp the Cangel concept, even in dream-state.

I've started watching a few episodes. Netflix has them all on demand. I own all of Buffy, so I don't need to use it for that, but Angel is all on there. I'm, technically, working this weekend, but once I get home Monday morning (I'm here from Saturday at 6:30am to Monday around 10am) I will totally be watching some Angel, mixed with some Buffy, just so I don't get burnt out and decide I don't like Angel.

And I know that Buffy and Willow won't be regulars on the show, but it's weird to see Angel and Cordelia (who is SO different on Angel) when I don't see everyone else. They're my favorite characters, and what make the show so incredibly satisfying. I'm a lot like Willow, and my best friend is completely Buffy.

Right. Angel was obviously saving himself for Nina in Season 5.

I'm totally blown away that so many people are hesitant about watching Angel. In some ways I feel like I know Buffy a lot better having watched it. And of course I love any crossovers. Angel is very different than Btvs. It's much darker.....but in a good way. It can go places Buffy never did and I would recommend it to anyone that is a true fan of Btvs!

Cordelia isn't different from the very beginning. It was a long, natural evolution of her character having to grow up. She couldn't remain the one-dimensional rich girl with a superiority complex forever. Life dealt her a bad hand and she had to deal and start a new one. She was eventually given a huge responsibility that literally and figuratively opened her eyes to all the horrors of the world and that allowed her to grow and become three-dimensional.

Also, no one has offended me here. I just think it's fairly safe to say that a show that not only lasted five seasons but remains hugely popular and co-exists well in the Buffyverse could hardly be considered a bad spin-off like other franchises have been cursed with. ANGEL was a bigger-budget, larger-scaled cinematic show that embraced the darker side of the Buffyverse, clashed it with real-world Los Angeles and kicked some serious ass along the way, but never forgot that it could have a hell of a lot of fun with its own concept and was a very funny series as well.

I actually stopped watching Buffy and only watched Angel for a while (mostly because of air times).

I adored Angel until the very end of S4. I never watched S5 at all as I the show had jumped the shark past the point of no return.

It took me a while to watch Ats. I was full on in love with BtVS, and thought nothing could even compare, which was a mayor reason I didn't bother at first (same with Firefly). I also didn't have enough money of my own, and had to wait for birthday's and Christmas to get the Buffy DVDs, so I wasn't about to start a new series before I had finished BtVS.

Also, I was still mad at Angel for leaving Buffy, for that crappy you-deserve-a-better-life reason. Still pisses me off now, even though I dislike Angel and think Buffy can do better.

And I heard, from Willow in the Pangs episode, that Cordelia was working for Angel. Mayor buzz-kill. Did not make me want to watch it. I had enough of her bitching in season 1. Not sure if I knew about Wesley being on the show. That might have made be put off watching it a while longer.

But in the end I did, because it was a part of the Buffyverse and it felt mandatory to watch. I'm glad I did, but like I thought, not as good as Buffy. But it's my second favorite show ever! 😀

Well, I was watching it when it was aired, but I don't remember liking it half as much as I loved Buffy.
Then last year, I decided to watch Angel after watching Buffy, and I just didn't like it any more than that. I stopped after Hero. I just related less to the "Vampire alone in a big city running a business without really connecting with people" side of Angel. I always felt closer from the Buffy feeling.
And then this year, I joined the forum and all the spoilers made me want to watch it, and I wanted to see Cordy's characters growning up even further. And, I must admit, my main motivation was to see how Weasley became so frigging hot&yummy&ayecaramba!
