If you owned a restaurant...

If you owned a restaurant, what kind of food would it serve? Would you run a haute cuisine French restaurant in the business district, or a french fry wagon at the local baseball park? What would you call your place? How big would it be? No need to pick something you know how to cook...what would you want to open if you had enough money to hire the chef you wanted? Would you open a bar that served beer and munchies, or a place that catered to the Scotch and cigars crowd?

I'd like a small restaurant, about 35 to 40 seats maximum. That would allow the chef to actually come out and interact with his patrons. I'd love to serve food just a cut above your average roadhouse fare...like swordfish, and steaks sauteed in whiskey butter. Regular food, just "kicked up a notch" to be interesting. I might call it "Sam and Ella's" just to be funny, but more likely something else, with a "Cafe" or "Bistro" in it.

I'd want a restaurant with vegetarian Indian food. There is this wonderful Indian restaurant in my city.. And that is almost exactly what I'd want. That is what I like to eat and that is what I'd like to know how to cook. No idea what I'd call it though. But if I ever did open a restaurant.. it probably wouldn't be a restaurant but more of a cafe.. With coffe, tea, hot chocolate.. and lots of different things to eat. I always wanted a small dark cafe, with small tables, comfortable music, a cosy feeling and nice people who come there almost every day.

Personally I#d prefer a small resturant, just like you. It's all about the feeling and what food you serve isn't really that important. But i think I'd go with the crazy, simple things, but served in a flashing neon kinda way. Crazy combinations perhaps. I love experimenting with stuff so why not experiment with food, hotdog buns and vanilla icecream delicious.

I would serve whatever foods I liked and if I don't like it won't get served.

No veggies unles they are in the form of pizza sauce, chips, & fries. Only meat there would be is ham, none of that special crap type of ham, pepperonis, and chicken and only fried chicken, not baked, especially not grilled.

My restaurant would be a little cafe. Where you could get Coffee, Hot Chocolate and Choco milk. On my food menu I would have food to match the season - i.e. Christmas, etc. I would have a mixture of Chinese, Italian, Mexican, English and Scottish food on there too. Mainly because I love all those foods. The speciality dish would be "Stovies". Mainly because it's a brilliant Scottish dish. Gotta have some home comforts in there somewhere.

Definately a authentic mexican resturant. No bar- more like a family resturaunt. Hire someone to maybe sing and play the spanish guitar in the dining area. Not sure what I'd call it...maybe Esperanza's. Have an area where the customers can see their food being made. :smile2:

Stovies rock!! I think i'm gonna get my mum to make some as hers are amazing. I could also offer you her home made Scotch Broth lentil soup. I'm not normally a soup fan but I can never pass up on this one. A recipe handed down to her from my gran who got it from her mother.

What's a "stovie"? I've never heard of that particular Scots delicacy.

I think I'd go for Indian cuisine but not the fancy restaurant, flock wallpaper, Bollywood muzak kind. It would be more like the café-style ones you find in the Asian areas of Birmingham or Bradford (probably in other cities as well but those are the ones I know) - where you don't necessarily always get cutlery but you do get enough naan or chapati to scoop up your food and if you want booze, you bring your own.

I wanted to open the Male version of Hooters, named Peckers. The restaurant would serve more woman-friendly food and be conscious of dieters. The waiters would wear white cotton short shorts and no shirts.

Mine would be a small greasy spoon. It would probably be about 45' X 15' a counter with 7 stools and two booths. It would be located on a highway neer a factory. No waitresses because the cook eather drops it in front of you at the counter or yells for you to come get your food from the booth 5' away. We would serve Coke products in styrofoam cups so when you were done eating you could just leave with your drink. There would not be a menu so much as a bord that would tell you the price of drinks, the price of the burgers and how the burgers come. I would serve nothing but Detroit style sliders w/onions or without.

Its not in layers, its all mixed together. You don't have to use lamb, my mum uses different stuff, my fave is her when she uses corn beef.

Ah the hubby and I talk about this all the time. Every time we create a new dish we say 'this could go on the menu!'

Ours would be a small, intimate place, maybe an old house converted into a restaurant in the lovely parts of town, with a mahogony 2 sided bar and demure, understated lighting. Gerbera flower on each table. And the food would be infusion cooking, the melding of different cultures. That's my favourite food to eat. Oh and lots of great wine and beers of course. 😀 The sort of place where your patrons go to eat a slow, great meal while enjoying a good bottle of Australian Shiraz and great conversation.

Man, if I owned a restaurant, it would be all my ideas...

My brother would be the head chef, unless I figure out how to work with one hand. But, it would play all rock music from the 70's to now(70's music rocks!). It would have alot of stuff to chose from, and it would be checked for rats daily(no one wants rat stew😉) Of course, the food would be Chicago Style food. It would be a good family place. And there is gonna be a bar.

It is like corned beef hash if you use corned beef (I love that stuff). But if you eat it north of the border you have to call it "Stovies"! 😉 Mike uses stewing steak.

KD: On the bar menu - all the normal things you get in a bar. Whisky, Vodka, Sambuca, Tequila, Beer - you name it. Plus a cocktail menu, wine menu and a shots menu. (I'm not allowed wine at the moment but we could just not tell the doctor :looking: !)
