Illumination (Drabble)

[Seeing Red]

It was pitch black out. Buffy could barely see a few feet in front of her. All that was visible were the stars overhead. She could hear the far off shouts and the occasional explosion. Buffy’s heart was racing, and her breathing became shallow. Ten seconds were left, time seemed to slow. The clock hit zero, and explosions went off all around. Buffy looked up to the sky, and it appeared to be raining fire. She looked over at the person next to her, his face illuminated. Buffy lean over and kissed him as she whispered, “Happy New Year, Spike.”



Notes: AU, not set in any specific time frame. This was my second ever fanfiction. So, comments would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

I am not used to reading drabbles. But they always have a way of surprising. Much like this one. The last line just sneaks in there and taunts the reader with a sly "Gotcha!" I like that. String the reader along and then serve them the roast payoff on a plate. 😛

What am I going on about? I don't know....I am on two hours sleep. 😛
