Illyria Posing as Fred to a Dying Wesley

I found it very generous of Illyria to let Wesley have closure. And yes, it was romantic 🙂

It was romantic in its own sorta way. Illyria saw how much Wes missed Fred and felt bad that he felt that pain so she did what she could to comfort him and give him some peace on his death bed. It showed Illyria had compassion.

Ugh I forgot Wesley dies. Yet another reason not to continue watching S5. 😛

I'm at the beginning of it still. I don't like it much.

I remember reading about Wesley's death ages ago, but I forgot about it. Now I want to watch S5 even less than before. 🙁

IMHO Season 5 is the best season of AtS. :)

Really? Today I start with episode 19. I think it's the the best Angel season even if Fred and Wesley die. (Snief)
I am so excited about the final! In fact I am a little bit sad of it too because it's the last season of BTVS or Angel which I haven't seen before. A traditon will end this week... The watch and get surprised by the storyline - tradition. 😀

I have literally just finished watching S5 for the first time. My immediate view of it is that it was incredibly romantic. Illyria knew that Wesley was not going to make it and that he wanted to be with Fred more than anything else in the world. Coupled with the final scene and her acknowledging grief at Wesley's passing, it showed that she cared about him deeply as well as giving Wes his final moment with Fred.

It is:

Romantic
Sad
Touching
Loving
Brilliant

and so many other things. It is one of the greatest moments of TV that I have ever watched.

I'm not ashamed to admit it... I cried like a baby.

I loooooooooved it. Not so much from a Fred/Wesley perspective, but from an Illyria one. I cannot get over the fact that what we see is not Fred. It's all Illyria, and she's amazing for it. Seriously, she's been changed profoundly by Wesley and this act pretty much embodies that. I love that later in the battle she's still the ruthless godking, but here she shows compassion and grief when it's really tough for her to do that.

YES!!!!! Perfectly said!!! This is not a Fred moment, this is an Illyria moment. And I love Illyria.
Yes! I was gutted when Fred died. Wesley's pain was heartbreaking.
Illyria appearing as Fred for Wesley was beautifully done.

I liked Wes a lot, same with Fred/Ilyria, but none of them were my favorite characters in the series. However, if you look through the entire Buffyverse, through all the episodes and all the relationships, this is the single most touching moment of either show.

There are other relationships that have more pure romance, but seeing Wesley like that, when he knows he's done and there's just nothing left for him in this world, after everything he'd been through (probably more than any other character), there was never a moment that got to me more (and I'm a such for just about any moment between Buffy and Angel). I still watch that moment and tear up (not even close to a joke).

Is it romantic? I don't know. I don't think there was ever a more heartfelt moment, where we've just felt so much for one of the characters.

It might be the best part of the series though.

I don't if I would call it romantic, it is one of my favorite scenes though. and it makes me cry like crazy

I thought it was incredibly romantic and moving. Illyria, who before had shown to feel no emotion, shows that she feels empathy for Wesley as he is dying. It's an incredible moment, and it never fails to reduce me to a puddle of tears.

I'd say more tragic, and if I could forgive wes for his doucheness series 3 onwards, it would have probably touched me.
