I think is Illyria crying... the same way in the last moment she says something about feeling pain, grief. She was really having emotions

This is how i just read that scene watching it for the first time... at first, i thought it was just her doing what fred would do, but those last tears after wes passes, before she gets up to turn, seemed to be her. i dont know why i saw it that way, but i did.

and idont think she loved him either. she had no concept of love. I think she grew fond of him as her guide, to find someone who was willing to help her, and to lose pretty much her only connection to humanity, as in, the only link she had to teach her about humans and what it is to feel.

It was Illyria crying. WIth all her mixed motions and still remembering Fred she cried.

I agree that is Illyria crying. I think she'd absorbed some human emotion after hanging around with them for so long 🙂

I DO believe that she had grown to tolerate Wesley, even admire and like him BUT I think that the tears were there because that is EXACTLY what Fred would do.

It doesn't take anything away from that scene, in fact it shows Illyria to be understanding about what it means to be human that she can do something so wonderful for someone she cares about.

I think I must agree with this: Illyria most definitely felt grief and everything when Wes died, hence the extreme asskicking Vail received. But the crying was, as I saw it, part of her Fred act. Which doesn't make it less beautiful, since, like BotD says, she did something extremely nice for someone she really cares about.

I always believed Illyria absorbed Fred as opposed to destroying her. So along with that came a sense of right/wrong and her attachment and eventually feelings for Wesley. She tries to get Wesley to be with her by imitating Fred saying 'she wishes to explore it further' which is propositioning him into some kind of relationship. He angrily declines and this leaves her emotionally devastated. First her kingdom is taken, then her power so she tries to cling to the one thing she has left, Wesley and he turns his back on her. We see this in the next episode where she basically says to Drogyn she wish she'd never been born.

She expresses her confusion to Wesley while he is helping her heal and he explains he won't accept a lie. He asks her if that's better (meaning her neck) and she replies it is, meaning her broken heart. Becoming Fred allowed them both to live a lie together, Wesley could pretend Fred was saying goodbye to him and Illyria could pretend Wesley loved her back. I believe all of her words, tears and anger were her own.

i believe the tears were both fred's and illyria's. illyria had some of fred inside her--she said in "shells" "there are flashes. memories"--and she knew that that's what fred would have done during a time like that, but i think she also felt for wesley, and was confused and troubled and at times overtaken by human emotion that she didn't understand. i think she started to cry as fred, and then cried as illyria, too. i'm not sure why, but wesley and illyria/fred's relationship and how it ended/how wesley died was perhaps as heartbreaking and beautiful for me as buffy/spike in "chosen," buffy/angel in "becoming," anya/xander, willow/oz, and willow/tara. wesley really grew on me as a character, and i think i can say he is in my top five favourites out of all of buffy and angel. i thought that the illyria/wesley dynamic was amazing and the episode "shells," particularly the last ten minutes or so, is beautiful.
