Got an itch and watched all the illyria episodes last night and was wondering what other people thought of her.

I feel she has an incredibly well put together story arc to go from wannabe ruler of the earth to beginning to accept the loss of her strength and seeming to begin to accept the bit of humanity inside her in so few episodes.

Yeh. Illyria is pretty much made of awesome.

I was initially so so made that my Fresley got all messed up but Illyria was so worth it to me.

She's incredibly interesting and so amazingly BA. Love love love super strong female characters.

I love her so much. Especially her hair. I've always wanted blue hair. Already got the blue eyes.

I LOVE her lines. And she says my favorite Ats line of all time:
"I'd like to keep Spike as my pet". I mean, who WOULDN'T?

But I also adore Fred. But character wise, I think Illyria is better.

Joss said at one time that there had planned for Illyria and Fred to be separated into two independent beings, as opposed to Illyria just being able to take Fred's form at will, in Season 6, but, of course, there never was a televised Season 6, so we never saw that happen. Maybe it'll happen now in Season 9, since Joss will have more direct control over all of the "Angel" characters once more. Of course, if they bring Fred back, they will just HAVE to bring Wes back, and I'll bet Higher Power Cordie would be the very one to pull something like that off. She might even toss Doyle in for good measure.

I really wanted to see the Illyria/Fred separate beings arc.
As much as I know you all might yell at me for saying this, I hope Fred and Wesley don't come back. Death should be final, especially now that magic (and assuming the rest of the supernatural) is fading from this dimension. I feel like it's a cop-out when characters keep coming back from the dead left and right just because fans love them so much.

Don't get me wrong; I love Fred and Wes and Doyle and Giles and Tara and everyone else who has died in the series, but I don't want them to come back. I think it would take away from the "beauty" (for lack of a better term) of their deaths, and negate all the growth that came after for the characters left behind. When Spike came back in AtS Season 5, I was disappointed because it was unnecessary. Buffy's return, however, was necessary, because the great final battle mentioned in Fray hadn't occurred yet.

(Plus, Illyria is quite possibly one of my most favorite characters in fiction ever, and I love everything that has happened to her since her introduction.)

I don't like her,

I fricken love her!

She's awesome, kick-ass, has great hair, has great lines, and her eyes are amazing. It's why she's my avatar, banner, and skin 😛

Now that I love Illyria so much, I kind of don't want Fred back, Illyria was enough for me, and before I watched Angel, I was kind of spoiled on Fred's death, and I saw a pic of Illyria and thought "She looks so cool!" Especially that awesome outfit 😀

Although I was hoping Fred wouldn't die in A Hole in the World, after I met Illyria more I was kind of happy we got Illyria - even if it meant no Fred.

I kind of wish Illyria came a little earlier though, her development seemed a little rushed because of how little time there was left to get everything shoved into the end of Season Five - I wish they didn't cancel Angel, Illyria was an interesting character and I wanted to see more of her...

Have you read IDW's stuff? Her character development in it is pretty amazing.
The first time I watched Season 5, I hated Illyria. I thought she was a flat character and her presence there felt unneeded. However, the more times I've rewatched, the more I've grown to love her. Amy Acker's acting and being able to switch so convincingly from Fred to Illyria was brilliant, and now that I've had time to separate my emotions from the situation I actually love the story arc and think it was done really well. I think if we had gotten more seasons of the show, Illyria would have been a kick ass addition to the AI team. At first, I think my opinion of her was more colored by my upset over Fred being killed before she and Wes could really have a go at a real romance.

I love Illyria. She's probably my favorite AtS character. Amy Acker's acting is really amazing, the transformation from Fred to Illyria. Not only is Illyria badass, she also has blue hair! (lol) She's hilarious too, and her interactions with Spike are priceless.

I agree totally. The "bringing back from the dead/hell dimension/heaven" plot device was just done to the point of absurdity in both shows.

I don't remember much from Angel, but I do remember that Illyria was by far my favorite character!

I love the way amy acker managed to pull of two completely different characters so well. I didnt think she was upto much as Fred although i did like that character, i just think she acted Illyria so well which surprised me. I would have loved to have seen more of her on the televised series.

Am I the only one who loves her? She's so kick ass reminds me of an X-Men character! I loved her powers too.

I'm re-watching S5 of Angel right now and I'd forgotten how cool of a character she was. The concept of her is a little out there (okay, way out there), but I found her to be really interesting, especially the interactions with Wesley. Watching her slowly develop more and more each episode was really cool.

Her powers were pretty incredible. I don't think, pre-Time Bomb, there was anyone even really close to her power level wise. She was pretty insane in the fighting department (I loved the scene where she rescues Gunn from the torture dimension). I've kind of always had the feeling that she would have played a much larger role in S6 of Angel, had it been picked up by the network.

I love Illyria. I don't like the way she was brought into the team (Fred 🙁) but she's so freaking cool!

I really liked the character arc they gave her. When the introduced the character I was annoyed with the writers for replacing Fred with a character played by the same actress and didn't like her much at all. Post Time Bomb especially, the character learning to play by the rules of our world was really interesting and the way the understanding of humanity was slowly dripped in was a brilliant job both of writing and acting. By the end of the series I was definitely a fan of the leather-clad Smurfette.

I really enjoyed Illyria there was something mystical about her , and Amy Acker portrayed both Fred and Illyria very well , i found it very strange when her personality had changed where as Fred was Quirky and Incisive where as Illyria was more Vitriolic rather than Quirky obviously she had the Incisive side to her due to the memories of Fred.
