I agree, still a scoobie. So much I read on this forum is talking about what they hate about the show. I love all of Buffy! Some episodes are better than others. Some seasons are better than others. And some villains are better than others. But I love the series, the story lines, all the characters and I always will.

I kind of get what you mean. As someone who got into the show a few years ago, i was aware of a lot of fan opinions of the show and Season 7 being sucky was one of them.

Personally, as much as Season 7 probably is my least favourite season (despite a decent first 6/7 episode run) i could never have not watched it if that makes sense. I'm too much of a complete-ist ha!

Also, as you can see by some of the comments, some people really did enjoy the season, so i suppose it's all a matter of opinion.

Season 7 is personally my least favorite season, I feel an emptiness in it. From season 5 things start to get very sad: Joyces' death, Buffy's death (but in her case is less bad because she is revived, of course), Tara's death, Giles returns to England, the relationship between Xander and Anya falls (I really liked them together), Spike needy, lonely and confused and I still miss the characters who left the series. Everything happened since season 5 but in season 7 is when all this passed and remains an emptiness.

I have tried to give season 7 a chance a fair few times and it has never been able to quite live up to what it claims to be doing. It tries to do too much, brings in too many new characters, for my liking, with all the potentials, and that takes away from the core scooby closeness. It then creates a bad guy, supposedly badder than any other with the first evil and uber vampires. And returns to a simplistic formula of we're the good guys, lets kill the bad guy plot. After all the intricate and complicated things they had done with the characters emotions in season 6 this felt like a step backwards to me. The priest bad guy was a good storyline and that worked well, I would liked to have seen that be more central to more of the series personally. Rather than faceless bad guys like a big nest of uber-vamps. It just lacked a personal touch, and turned it into an impersonal war, rather than a personal battle.

There is still a lot to like along the way. And some things you wouldn't want to have missed out on as a Buffy fan. The storyteller episode is nicely done and the episode about Anya's history is an important addition. And there is the episode him, which I think is a comedy classic, one of the best funny episodes. There are plenty others also to get your teeth into. The main thing is to go into it with an open mind, then atleast you can know you have given it a good chance. Maybe that was my mistake first time round watching it, my mind was closed to some of the changes, and I was settled on the ending of season 6.

It's not a bad season, it has some good episodes but not the best. Seriously the worst thing about season 7 is the show ending! haha

I love Chosen though, Buffy sharing her power is very symbolic and a beautiful end to the show. Would still love a comeback though 🙂

I agree more or less entirely with you on Season 7. It just comes off as a disappointing finish with some good single episodes. I was actually extremely open to season 7 going into it, as I had already heard some negative comments about season 6, but nevertheless liked it a lot. And I really had no reason to expect S7 to be any worse. But it was. Note that I have watched the series only once so far, so I too will have to have an another look at S7 (and all the others seasons for that matter), but I doubt it will "grow" on me much besides the occasional highlights.

I give a series like Buffy a lot of leeway on the suspension of disbelief thing, because of the nature of the show, but S7 just crosses some line in my brain that I can't forgive. The looming danger is much too vague and the plot developments are much too convenient, not to mention that the new characters are difficult to care about (although I like Andrew) and the atmosphere of the show being Buffy is largely just not there. The problem isn't that it's different, the problem is that this flavour of different just did not work that well.

The very final episode only highlights all these problems. Worst season finale by far.

I agree, I think we share a similar view there. Not much to add really 😀 Except this will probably lead to me watching season 7 again just to be sure 🙄

And certainly if you have just watched it once, give it all another try, as I think in my case I did appreciate parts of season 7 more second time round.
