@nightshade and I were chatting about starting a Christmas thread, so I decided as I've started shopping and planning, well, why the hell not....

I have my daughter Abb's 20th!! Yes 20th birthday a few days before Christmas so I plan for both activities and, I normally organise all the girls getting together for a Christmas meal out too.

I've bought her main birthday gifts already. I've also bought her Dad's main gift (we are NOT together but he might be here this year.... possibly with Nanny & PeePee (aka Peter the Grandad) and Uncle's!!

I've re-bought my Christmas planner book again as my last one run out after hitting its 5 year mark. Obviously I've started my cards lists and present lists and I've started getting ideas off the internet for gifts for people.

*do not buy more baubles this year nix*

wanders off mumbling something about table decorations!

I'm so looking forward to the Ber months!

I do myself a Christmas stocking every year, start early and wrap so by Christmas I've forgotten what I bought! I need to check it, but I'd guess its mostly full.

Mum's stocking is probably half done, and I bought my nephew his gift in the sales.

I've got plenty of wrapping paper, cards tags etc

I haven't precisely started Christmas shopping yet, but I've picked up stuff throughout the year with a mind for using it for Christmas.

Regardless of the comments I have no doubt said in the past I do think it is good the way you still make contact with your ex.
I must admit I'm much the same way. My ex and I correspond by phone at least once a week, on occasion our daughter gives me a lift when she visits her. Our daughter is happy to see us together as we divorced in 1992, even though I am mentally and physically disabled and the ex is a Quadriplegic.
 
The holiday we celebrate the most in that period is Bonfire Night.

I did say for Christmas people! To be fair if it's not your thing...

I don't do fireworks as myself & Abbs don't like them. We do Halloween (maybe I should start a thread for that too lol) & Abbs Birthday then Christmas time & NYE!

I agree, I don't understand why these days any fireworks are noisy when there's silent ones available.

I don't usually do Halloween but my nephew will be a toddler then so maybe....

I forgot to mention I ordered my advent calendar months ago!

St. Martin's Day is the indirect ancestor of America's Thanksgiving Day, in that it was an early winter feast celebrated by roasting a goose. The Plymouth Pilgrims (Puritan Separatist Breathern) were radical Calvinists, and didn't celebrate feast days, but they did make an exception for occasional "Days of Praise and Thanksgiving," but, again, big meal in early winter can only go so many ways, and the Pilgrims were only important for a generation or two before they merged with the rest of the Bay Colonies.

Like Michaelmas, the Churching of Women and Epiphany Bonfires, it used to be a much bigger deal when rural life was far more important. Taking a few days after the harvest around a major Christian festival to close out the summer makes sense if you work in agriculture and have genuine fears that not everyone will survive the winter, but urban life leaves a lot less time and necessity for such vacations.
