The Buffyverse is rife with tragedy and sorrow but were there ever any scenes that made you laugh despite the fact that they were "sad" or "serious" moments? Were there times that you felt guilty for laughing?

Examples:

Bad Eggs
The Gorch brothers fighting. One of them says, "I'm going to beat you like a redheaded stepchild." It was such an unPC thing to say and child abuse and treating the offspring from your spouce's previous relationship's differently is wrong (I grew up with a great stepfather) I laughed at the line.

Tomorrow
I laugh every time at the absurdity of that Higher Being storyline and found nothing moving or tearjerking about it. "I'm a Higher Being." I was happy that it turned out Skip was tricking her to bring forth Jasmine and it wasn't just that the writers were on crack.

Well she became a higher being after the Jasmine trickery as it is shown in AtF.
Spike and Buffy during season 6. When I wasn't grossed out I was laughing, possibly to keep from crying in frustration.

Angel's "Destiny". That big fight seemed to take a comically long amount of time.

If the writers have made her an official "Higher Being" after everything that happened it is a disservice to her character since it was that storyline that ruined her and lead to the writers cutting their losses and killing her off.

What about Spuffy in S6 made you laugh?

Wild At Heart. A heartwrenching episode for Oz/Willow fans but after I listened to the Joss Whedon/Marti Noxon/Seth Green commentary for it, it makes me laugh my ass off!

It was mostly laughing to keep from being completely frustrated at what I was watching.

Heh, I listened to part of the commentary for Angel's Lullaby (just the last 15 minutes or so) and some of Tim Minear's amusing comments stuck with me like that.
 
. Most of the time when Buffy and Angel meet and just say each others names. Just once I'd like to see Buffy meet Angel, and instead of saying " Angel", just say "Hi" instead. Or shake things up with a "Howdy".
. Yeah the Buffy/Spike sex scene makes me laugh, when they fall through the floor. That's funny stuff.
. Most of "Dark Willow" stuff, particularly the "Willow's a junkie" line. A drug metaphor gone to far, just a bit cringy for me, and worth a laugh.
. I can't remember the episode, but there's a scene where Fred yells at Gunn for almost dying and leaving her alone. Again cringy, and how self involved is Fred. "Yup, I almost died, but let's talk about your feelings".
 
I know some people find it hard to concentrate on Angelus flashbacks because of David Boreanaz's attempt at an Irish accent.

When I am not speechless with shipper joy (yes, I know Xan said "geeker") while seeing Spuffy get it on in Smashed I think of Seth Green telling Joss & Marti his reaction to seeing it for the first time when he was flipping through the channels one day. Basically he was shocked at how graphic it was and was trying to remember how close James & Sarah were before having to film such a "cherry popping" (to use Jame's words) love scene.
 
I find almost every Buffy/Angel scene to be hilariously over-dramatic. The Zeppo, Amends, Helpless, The Prom, and many others are all prime examples. 😀
 
I never really noticed it until my sister in law pointed it out, but the "bringing the house scene from "Smashed." They crash through the floor, drop at least 10 feet or more onto the basement floor, and Buffy's still pounding away, never missing a beat, even with all of the debris falling around them.
 
My Spuffy and Bangel are taking a beating in this thread. ha ha

I always took Angel and Buffy constantly saying each other's names as part of their adoration of each other. The sound of your love's name, the feel of it on your tongue, the emotions the name arises in you, makes you want to say it again and again. Which ties in with the fact that once they are separated it is almost a faux pas to say their names.

I hear a lot of people say they have issues with "When you kiss me I want to die". Even several Bangel fans aren't sure what she meant with that line. I loved someone that compared it to the French notion of "the little death". I actually liked the line because I thought it went nicely with what Angel was saying. "When I kiss you, you don't wake up from a deep sleep and live happily ever after" and the emotional and symbolic meaning of death and romance for Buffy.

You were supposed to laugh in The Zeppo. You were meant to see from Xander's perspective.

It is either incredibly sexy or incredibly funny that Spike's knees buckled in Smashed. Did the fact he was lusting after her for so long cause him to arrive after only half a minute? Did he just go weak in the knees or was it because he came? Yes, he ended up lasting all night but it would be really funny if his "first" time with her was so short.

I loved "wehn you kiss me I wanna die".I compare the great love and happiness out of it, or tragedy cause they are not supposed tov be together to a little death...it's complicated but I like it
In Soul Purpose, in Angel's dream, when Spike became the real champion and Angel was in mailman outfit and everyone ignored him. He's SO chubby and look at his face! :lmao:
 
Giles getting his head banged into the wall by the Shumash warrior in Pangs.

When Xander got hit on the head with Olaf's hammer. It was supposed to be EXTREMELY heavy and it didn't even knock him out! Whenever he gets knocked out really I laugh because I read a TwoP review that was all "Xander went flying but he's okay cuz he landed on his head." He has a thick head!

In Graduation Day #2 when Mayor Wilkins turns into the giant snake demon and the parents flee while their 18 year old kids stand their guard bravely.
 
Well the "when you kiss me I wanna die" is indeed ambiguous and complicated. I had discussed it cause I had used it in my first siggie.It is symbolic(I tried to analyse a little by karma in crazysoulless post.) I loved it the moment I heard the quote. To me it means that their feelings are so serious, and they know that they can't be together, so it kind of makes Buffy wanna die or something like that. I just like it cause it symbolises the power of their love.

Yeah the spuffy scenes...well they do not always make laugh.Sometimes I just wanna get in the screen and kick their asses cause it grosses me out, but the Smashed scene is exaggerated IMO. I was like" you guys...the house is falling apart...you could seem a little surprised! Instead...*ahem* ".
 
When Cordy sees herself in the mirror right before she's going to meet Angel (before she gets turned into a higher being) that just makes me go, OH my god! crappy acting on her part and just a bit cringe-worthy to watch really so that always draws a laugh from me
 
Buffy's speech in Bring on the Night. It was so horribly overwritten, I couldn't help but laugh. Off on this tangent, every time they kept trying to build up TFE as this unstoppable badass when it can't even touch anything I cringed/laughed. I can't help but think Buffy's first reaction in Amends is the one she should've had in S7 "Alright I get it, you're evil. Do we have to chat about it all day?" It felt like they (the writers) were trying to compensate for TFE being such an ineffective villain by having all the characters be really afraid of it.

When Buffy said the speech in BOTN it was right after she got beat nearly to death and overheard her friends and the girls she was now responsible for thinking she was done for and fearing they would be defeated. She could barely stand and was probably in a lot of pain but she was trying to instill a serious morale boost. She didn't know how to defeat the FE and knew more people would die. She told Andrew in Storyteller that she didn't like having to give speeches about how everything was going to be okay because she knew it wasn't. So I guess I understood why she gave generalized speeches. It was better than Anya calling the SITs cannon fodder.

I understood why the FE was supposed to seem so badass. It can infect humans with added negative qualities (the "evil" emotions that some people thought meant you had "demons in you" or were possessed with the "demon of rage"). It wanted to enter every living creature on Earth, to have its pure evil be the central part of everyone. It created an army of Turak-Han in a short amount of time (only one in Showtime, thousands by GID). It had the kind of followers who would mutilate themselves, put triggers on people forcing them to kill, destroyed an organization that has survived since primitive times, and came the closest to completely eliminating the Slayer line. It could appear as the dead and psychologically torment you into murdering others, killing yourself, or cause mistrust within a group.

I laughed at that. Maybe I have a sick sense of humour. Now you mention it is actually very un-pc. Child abuse is not cool.
